• controlling • stubborn • insensitive •
Regardless of how self preoccupied Valerie can seem, her altruistic nature tends to stand out through her unspoken actions with others, usually the first to offer assistance when asked, but due to her high standards can be a tad controlling when left in charge. Valerie is a very disciplined person who stays diligent with any task thrown her way. She accepts nothing less than perfection and can be quite stubborn towards any new ideas or suggestions that stray from her plans or visions. She's very good about listening and gives people the respect of hearing them out but will give her genuine, honest opinion, good or bad, often coming off as insensitive as a result.
HOBBIES

poetry • cooking
Valerie enjoys writing poetry in between her studies and classes-- not being so emotional on the surface, writing poetry makes her feel truly free to express herself how she wants. When she feels burnt out, she finds relief in cooking to turn her brain off and find a moment of relaxation.

BIOGRAPHY
Valerie Proulx was an only child who was born into a world of high expectations. Her parents, esteemed surgeons known for their skill and dedication, were consumed by their rigorous professional lives, leaving little room for caring for their only child. Consequently, Valerie's upbringing was delegated to her overly doting nanny. From an early age, her parents stressed not kindness or personal growth but academic excellence and becoming someone useful—essentially a utility to serve others, as though Valerie owed the world something simply for being brought into it.
From an early age, Valerie found solace in the quiet corners of their large family home. Her parents' emphasis on academic and professional achievement meant that Valerie's real world revolved around textbooks and tutors and their detachment was coupled with a relentless drive for Valerie to excel in her studies, a standard that often overshadowed her emotional needs. When she was allowed her free time she spent hours reading and living in her own world.
Her introspective nature led her to spend her time in a sort of limbo, waiting for her life to change; for something extraordinary to happen, rather than taking the for reins herself. Despite her isolation, Valerie cultivated a sharp intellect and honed her talent in poetry. Her inspiration lie in people watching and she became gifted at observing life happening around her, finding the interactions of others to be a mirror for her own longing for connection.
The stability of her stagnant world was abruptly disrupted when a fire ravaged her family home. With the house damaged and repairs needed, her parents saw an opportunity to send Valerie away, she was too old for a nanny and they considered her too troublesome to be at home alone for what could be days at a time while they were pushing double shifts at the hospital. This decision was practical—an efficient solution to ensure their daughter wouldn't get in the way or complicate their lives further while the house was repaired.
At the boarding school, Valerie faces a new kind of isolation, surrounded by peers whose lives are as tumultuous as her own, yet she remains detached, a silent observer rather than an active participant. As she navigates her new environment, Valerie continues to explore her identity through writing and poetry using her keen observation skills. She is caught between a desire for change and this new life that risks pushing her deeper into isolation. Her time at the school quickly becomes a space where she grapples with her sense of self and her place in a world that had always seemed indifferent to her needs.
