A thicket of brown locks wave and curl down to Warren’s waist. Regardless of the amount of brushing and work, the thicket has a mind of its own and oftentimes tangles back up in meager hours; hence it is always bound by at least a loose ponytail. The amount of product does not affect the outcome. His hair is only free during downtime to maintain tidiness and additionally, to avoid damage. Otherwise, Warren brings it up into a tightly wrapped bun or even a thick braid to avoid burns, damages and it getting caught. Occasionally, Warren does put on some small accessories. These are usually small beaded pieces or more rustic pieces. A stubble of facial hair touches Warren’s face. It is thin and maintained to be a short-cut with a beard and mustache if you can even call it that.
[break]eyes
[break]
Golden and bright, beneath the shadows of his unruly hair, Warren has a gorgeous pair of eyes. When working his craft, they tend to shine with focus, pupils subtly glancing over the small nuances in his work.
[break]body
[break]
Standing at an intimidating 6’8”, Warren dwarves a majority of people who meet him. The broad shoulders of a man who has accomplished plenty of industrial works adds to the bulk of his daunting build. If the imposing bulk of his body was not enough to draw the attention of others, the specialized prosthetic that makes his left arm is. Specially made, Warren’s prosthetic can accomplish movements similar to a normal hand. Although, it does not feel temperatures, touch or other sensations required of skin. The prosthetic is the entire left arm, from shoulder downward.
[break]clothing
[break]
Properly fitting has long become the suitable style for Warren. Overly loose fabrics means being caught on equipment and risking injury. Meanwhile, tightness grows uncomfortable quickly. These simply imposed rules lead to clothing best described as ‘typical’ and ‘bland’. Basic single-coloured shirts, over-worn jackets, jeans and if Warren is feeling “fancy” a pair of slacks. The fact Warren possesses a tidy enough wardrobe for Panacea Academy standards is nothing short of a miracle given his incredibly low standards. An entire section in his closet is devoted to “work shirts” he wears when working with wood or metal meanwhile a smaller section is “school work clothes”.

[break]
- Warren often rolls the left sleeve of any long-sleeved shirt up to shoulder or cuts them away. This is frequently due to the fabric getting caught in the mechanisms.[break]
- It is not uncommon for Warren to make minor adjustments to his prosthetic when portions break. Although, any particularly robotic repairs are handled by the company who made it for him. [break]
- Given his height, Warren does sometimes order custom clothes for when he needs to be tidied up.

Upon meeting the metalworking teacher, the first thing most students and other faculty tend to notice is Warren is rather loud. He struggles to keep his voice down and at times gets scolded more than the academy’s students! Part of it comes from his lack of ability to judge his volume and has made him a nightmare in locations that require a quieter voice. In some ways, he proves excitable as Warren’s volume tends to increase as he engages more and more with a favourable topic. Almost as though the growing volume is designed to show enjoyment. Fortunately, he takes no offense to being requested to lower the volume; if anything, he appears earnestly unaware of his loudness. Though, despite his loudness, Warren is generally amiable and genuine. He wants to speak to people, Warren proving to be extroverted in a lot of ways.
[break][break]
His friendliness proves to assist in forging connections and in these connections, Warren is open about plenty of things. It adds to his genuine nature, the man being willing to tell people honestly about his thoughts when asked. Arguable, Warren struggles to tell a straight lie to someone. Rather, he tends to redirect or requests to revisit the topic at another time. It is evident Warren wants to help people, thus, if his experiences can assist in them making good decisions, he will. On account of how his life has been, Warren can be surprisingly optimistic, if not, overly in hopes providing a brightside can help people find a light at the end of the tunnel. Even if it is not exactly his job to guide people, Warren is a teacher and wants to help his students.
[break][break]
Sociable by nature, Warren tends to have an easy time talking to people. Even topics unfamiliar to the large man insight interest in him. He wants to know more about people and the world. It feeds into a soft sense of curiosity in Warren. Undoubtedly though, Warren’s life brims with passion, one that burns brightly and has been inspired by his love of metalworking primarily. Though, at times, Warren can be stubborn about certain manners. He wants to keep people, including himself, safe, thus changing opinions, especially about people becomes difficult. In tandem to this stubbornness, Warren, regardless of his openness with his life, tends to act on the tough side. He does not want to worry people when he is struggling and thus does not always talk about his problems. Rather, he carries on and thinks to himself, trying to find the answers himself at times. It takes a lot of trust for him to even consider revealing his problems, most being informed with a mere quick explanation with little elaboration.

- Warren tells every student that he lost his arm in a metal shop accident to promote safety. He tells it like a horror story to really hammer the point in. [break]
- After welding, Warren has been known when the temperatures grow cold to go out in merely a t-shirt to cool down. [break]
- Warren genuinely has a difficult time judging his volume. Part of this is the amount of work he does around loud machinery… the other part is he is simply a very loud person… [break]
- Outside of teaching, Warren does custom woodwork and metalwork for people who request it. [break]
- Computer programs are often used to make blueprints given while Warren is a very artistic and precise person… This does not translate well to paper. He has the drawing skills of a toddler. [break]
- Topics related to vehicle accidents do make Warren uncomfortable. It is not uncommon he will merely excuse himself and find a quieter place. Additionally, he does get nervous driving in winter conditions. [break]
- He has a propensity to give people nicknames as he pleases. Chances are if you are on good terms with him, he will think of a nickname for you. He will also loudly declare this nickname upon seeing you! [break]
- Warren is a morning person. All he needs is a little coffee and he is good to go. He does occasionally even use the private workshop in his home in the early hours. Even if he stays up late, he finds a way to wake in the early mornings! [break]
- Warren has had his home adjusted to compensate for his height. All doorways are a little taller to stop the occasional head banging… though this has made him prone to forget about the difference when he returns to teaching, causing him to hit his head on door frames.

All students attending the metalworking class are expected to complete the WHIMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System) test and have an understanding of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) to ensure safe practice around dangerous chemicals and machines. The metalworking class is additionally used as an opportunity to teach workplace safety and etiquette to avoid students entering dangerous situations. They will also learn to use various programs to create blueprints, outlines and plans for their projects. Between teachings of new techniques and learning to apply those techniques in the following project.
[break]projects
[break]
Please note, these are just vague ideas I wanted to add for fun. You are more than welcome to come up with more project ideas. Metalwork, in Warren’s opinion, can be about practicality or art. Therefore, a majority of projects will be a mixture of both. Projects for early year students begin simple, from making boxes, small puzzles of sorts, back scratchers and other smaller-caliber creations to show a basic understanding of these starting skills. As time goes on, these projects will become bigger and more complex, involving creations such as jewelry stands, wall art creations and other intermediate creations. As time goes on, the projects will become bigger with more complexities and learning. With students proving their understanding, they may be asked to make things such as go karts as a group project.
[break]classroom/workshop
[break]
Given Warren has his own daughter, there is a small basket of feminine hygiene products for use on his desk. Anybody who needs them is welcome to them. Part of the reason this is done is because he wishes to promote normalcy of their use. Given students are expected to complete a WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System) test, no student can enter the workshop until achieving a mark of 80% or higher to assure student safety. Students are not allowed in the workshop unless Warren is supervising given the dangerous materials and equipment inside. This being said, Warren does often stay a little after school hours if students need to catch up, but it is still advisable to request the time from him. Additionally, unless a qualified substitute is overseeing the class, students are not permitted to work in the workshop.
[break]decorum
[break]
Expected decorum in Mr. Gray’s classes are generally ensuring everybody is respectful and safe. Unsafe behaviour will result in being banned from the workshop or in severe situations, expulsion from the class. While Warren does not take these situations lightly, the safety of students comes before learning in all cases. If a student is extremely unsafe and it is not too late, he will potentially inform the student to try and change electives. While he does keep the class under control given the usage of machinery and welding equipment, he is more loose about swearing in class. If someone stubs a toe or drops something on themself, Warren will be excusing an expletive. He does make it clear though that excessive swearing is not welcomed.

Born into a wealthy family, Warren had the metaphorical golden spoon of home lives. Karmella and Fenton Gray were benevolent parents, albeit, more on the strict and old fashioned side. His father owned a law firm and practiced as a lawyer in Wisteria meanwhile his mother, formerly a teacher, left the occupation to be a stay at home mother to him. There were always respective “gender roles” as his mother maintained the home and watched their singular child and his father was the breadwinner. It was a world Warren became familiar with, however, his parents took liberties to inform him not all households were the same. This method worked for them, but they held tongue at the thought of denouncing others’ living situations given the economic state.
[break][break]
The love for woodwork, metalwork and general crafting of goods, however, came from neither parent. Those were inspired by a titchhular figure in Warren’s life, that being his grandfather. Throughout his youth, the young boy would visit the older man, providing companionship and being the junior to his senior despite their different surnames; though, most called him by his middle name, Jack. Nonetheless, it was a common reference made by those who knew the family. Long before Warren had been born, Jack had lost his wife after a long battle with cancer. It left a loneliness in the home, one that his daughter, Karmella, assisted with by bringing over his first and only grandson.
[break][break]
The pair possessed a strong bond with Grandpa Jack being the person to babysit Warren when his mother needed time to herself or a rambunctious child made chores or errands impossible. In those days, Warren watched everything his grandfather did. When he carved wood, burned it, cut and everything in between with the strict instructions he touched nothing unless he asked. Though, nothing fascinated him more than the metal pieces his grandfather made. Small puzzle games, hooks to hang his coat with old slogans and even carved out metal wall decorum. These fascinated young Warren to no end and generated an interest in the field.
[break][break]
Eventually, Warren began learning from his grandfather regarding the craft. As a young child, countless summers were spent doing activities perhaps a child of 12 was unprepared for. From Grandpa James, Warren learned a lot and the experience was invaluable to him. The rifts formed from the arrival of adolescence were smoothed over by evenings spent working with his grandfather. Especially as Warren began the typical teenage misbehaviour and rebellion, causing minor fights with his parents. They were blown up to proportions higher than needed, but hormones created high tensions. Yet, over those few years, he found his grandfather stating there could be no workshop some evenings. Naturally, Warren was confused, but shrugged it off, thinking nothing of it. He wished he thought better of it. Pressed a little more about the reasons… but life doesn’t play out like dreams.
[break][break]
Waking up that morning was confusing and jarring. The teen had hustled home after Grandpa James told him after an evening of working on wood carvings. The descent downstairs was perplexing when he heard the sniffling sobs of his mother. As he reached the ground floor, a pit formed in his stomach. A mere 15 and Warren had rarely seen the strong Karmella break down crying… What happened? It was all he asked with that sickening sensation tensing up shoulders and pressuring his neck. “Grandpa James… passed away last night… I’m sorry.” At that age, the notion of having lost someone quintessential in his life was baffling. Initially, he did not believe his own father who delivered the crushing news on behalf of his wife… A teenager who believed he could handle everything on his own, Warren pushed the attempt of a comforting hug up stairs. Snapped at them to leave him alone and stormed upstairs… They knew he needed time to process.
[break][break]
Hurt was a steel weight in Warren’s heart. He began lashing out further, the grief of losing his grandfather choking him in a way. The young boy was pushing everyone away, getting himself into trouble and only diving further into it. In his youth, there were questions as hormones threw thoughts out of whack. A casual girlfriend named Marie Fontaine, an insistence she has not matured enough to get pregnant and a desire to experiment… They were teenagers, sneaking actions they never wanted their parents to know about… He should have known better, Warren would state that to this day. Given the classic saying ‘boys will be boys’, his parents hammered it into his head… but in his grief and desire for an outlet… he never thought about it thoroughly. Rather, he merely realized in the aftermath his preferences and nothing more. God, he could not think straight.
[break][break]
The hasty grabbing of his arm by Marie a few months after a break up brought furrowed brows, her distressed expression adding to his concern. While they were incompatible, Warren still cared about his ex-girlfriend at the time… Hiding in a quiet part of school, he watched her frantic self-soothing gestures and wettening eyes… Impatient, he remembered telling her to spit it out only for everything to come out. Panic turned mutual as his eyes widened as Marie effectively shouted the truth to him. The blonde was pregnant, she got a friend to bring her a test, and she knew it had to be him. His heart dropped in an instant as reality was unveiled and Warren found himself in a situation beyond meager trouble. The young woman wanted comfort, but the teenage boy was shell shocked and shutting down from thought. Thus, the remainder of the school day was spent zoned out, panicked, whispered discussions between classes and reaching the scariest conclusion… telling their parents.
[break][break]
A lump in his throat and wringing with nerves, Warren returned home to his mother. The regular home discussion occurred, and the young man was awkward and stumbling over his words. How could he tell them? There was a dense fog of certainty his parents would be disappointed in him… He should have known better… Naturally, Karmella began picking up on her son’s strange behaviour, but left it for the time. Though when her husband returned home and supper came around, the attitude remained. Unlike normal days from their troublesome son, Warren was more subdued and anxious… They questioned him, making his stomach roll with anxiety as he stumbled over words. He made an excuse, unable to tell them the truth quite yet. However, once supper closed and his parents pressed, Warren shamefully admitted the truth… That Marie was pregnant and it was his.
[break][break]
As expected, it turned into a stunned scolding, Karmella and Fenton’s shock prompting outrage before acceptance. They told him he should have known better. Asked him why he would be so irresponsible… and with mounting pressure and stress, Warren cracked. Through strain and tears, he shouted about how he missed Grandpa Jack, how he was scared, how he just wanted to escape the sorrow brimming in his heart and how he did not know what to do. The situation softened as Warren began breaking down. As he claimed himself a failure, his parents reassured him… The talk was long as they discussed the situation until the phone rang and his father spoke with Marie’s parents. He remembered that night spent sniffling and crying as his mother’s hand ran through his hair, attempting to comfort her son. He felt like a young child, but he never realized how much he needed it.
[break][break]
The coming days were discussions about the situation. Every word was awkward as the teens were given information about the notion of raising a child, adoption and foster care. Nonetheless, what happened with the baby was their responsibility… At the time, Warren was uncertain of what he wanted, but Marie was determined to keep their baby. She insisted upon it, thus, Warren agreed given the circumstance. That was what he was supposed to do, right? Help out since he donated to the situation they found themselves in. Thus, over the coming months, Warren helped and plans were made. His mother made it clear she would help, but he was expected to put the work in with raising his child. She merely wished to assure he could continue his studies into college and have breaks to still be a child.
[break][break]
Education was another step entirely as Karmella made the cost of a child clear to him along with the dangers of teen pregnancy. His mother was determined to assure his son understood what his actions entailed and why it was crucial he tried his hardest to help Marie parent their child. At the time, Warren was additionally given the opportunity to go to therapy to handle the grief and the stress of the situation. Despite the endless stress of the situation, Warren’s mental health began improving rapidly. It was something he needed after losing Grandpa Jack, and gradually, it allowed him to sort through his issues. As the due date became closer, his parents helped him prepare further for the arrival of his child.
[break][break]
The day itself was stressful as Warren found himself waiting in a hospital with his parents, hoping Marie would be alright. Hours would pass before Warren was called into the hospital room and met her for the first time. The uncertainty about fatherhood Warren initially felt melted away after meeting Penelope. That little girl meant more to Warren than he could have ever expected, and while taking care of her was stressful at times, he loved her. The first days of learning to care for a child spawned headaches, but even through the exhaustion, Warren found himself smiling and teasingly saying “tsk tsk, waking up dad again, eh?” He helped a lot in those first days, his mothers’ lectures about birth being difficult echoing in his head. Though things changed when the postpartum for Marie only worsened. After recovery, she needed time, and spontaneously decided on a trip.
[break][break]
On that day, Penelope was left at the Gray household to be cared for by her father while her mother headed to Victoria, BC to stay with her aunt for a week… Alas, one week became two… two turned to a month… and it continued. Messages began to become fewer and fewer as the family cared for the youngest member… and it continued until Mr. & Mrs. Fontaine moved away to Victoria… The young mother had changed her mind, and it became obvious in those days. Thus, for many sleepless nights and sacrificed outings with friends, Warren found himself taking care of Penelope. Perhaps it would have been the grounds for resentment or frustration, but Warren found himself… oddly happy. He could not explain the joy his daughter provided him. It was undoubtedly difficult and the man would not hesitate to speak against the notion of being a teen parent, but he wanted to be there. Every day, he was thankful his family situation made it reasonable to keep the baby. His parents were wealthy and willing to help where Warren needed it while teaching him responsibility over his daughter.
[break][break]
Juggling school and helping raise Penny was one of those difficult moments in Warren’s life. Interruptions to studying were hardly surprising and oftentimes, Warren found himself studying alone to avoid causing difficulties to friends. The instances he fell asleep on textbooks only to be awakened by Penny’s crying were memories seared into his mind. It happened more than once, even with his mother’s benevolent help. There were tests taken running on 4 hours of sleep and somehow passed and Warren could not explain how exactly he managed. Though, during those days, Warren often took moments to escape into metalwork for a creatively fueled break. The artist needed those days and his mother provided them to keep the spirit of Grandpa Jack alive in the child named after him.
[break][break]
After graduating from Panacea Academy, Warren was quickly swept into college, knowing what he wanted. Working in the field of industrial arts brought Warren an indescribable sense of joy. His grandfather showed him how the artistic, albeit, sometimes dangerous work got him through the hardest parts of his life. It was the release Warren needed when the world became impossible to handle and was his passion. In honour of the man who taught him that world, Warren was determined to become a teacher, preferably for metalwork. He entered a post-secondary schooling program that assisted parents, allowing him to plan his schedules accordingly to care for Penny, work and get through his schoolwork. It felt rare for Warren to not be doing something, however, it quickly transformed into the norm. The man needed to be doing something, less he would grow bored. The constant motion was what made college a blur in some ways… but he was happy. Through those days experiencing his own and Penny’s milestones sparked a sense of joy that lit up his heart.
[break][break]
It would be around the age of twenty-three that Warren began teaching at Panacea Academy as the metal working teacher. There was comfort in it given he finally felt pride swelling in him. What he aspired for was unfolding before him and he found comfort there. The creation of a life as a single father was not something Warren expected all those years ago. After a couple years of teaching and a little help from his parents, Warren moved into a quaint home on the outskirts of Wisteria City with his daughter. It was a fixer-upper, but Warren’s personal experience in craft and to some extent building made it easily manageable. He fixed it up and assured his daughter got a big space for herself to enjoy. Pride swelled in him during those days, but life is filled with difficulties. It was a lesson taught many times.
[break][break]
A blizzard was settling in as Warren drove with his daughter. Young, a mere 25 with eyes carefully watching the road as he talked with Penny. They were inching along given the thickness of the snow, Warren white-knuckling the steering wheel a little as they moved along. The nervousness was higher than usual given Penny was in the vehicle with him, his daughter who he swore to protect. Alas, everything happened faster than he could have imagined. There was a screech roaring around the corner as another vehicle sped past. He remembered for only a moment his eyes could widen before the horrific crunch and jostling started. Everything spun and rang, the only sensation being an intense pain and the cold. They were just outside the city when it occurred. The world blurred in the cacophonous noise until the lights went out and it dimmed into silence.
[break][break]
When his eyes opened, Warren found himself surrounded by bright lights and pale walls. He heard his father calling over to his mother. They were hovering over him as they spoke his name and Warren attempted to piece together what happened. However, when the memories returned, the fear hit him hard. In panic, he asked about Penny, back straightening immediately as his eyes leaked worried tears. The reassurances eased him, his parents insisting he rested with a more awkward cadence… Still exhausted, Warren had not noticed his condition as he settled down and found himself drifting off again. In the accident, due to the high speeds of the other vehicle, Warren’s left arm was severed at the shoulder. Unquestionably, the teacher was lucky to even be alive.
[break][break]
The days that came, Warren learned the extent of his injuries and began undergoing treatment. As winter break came to a close, the metalworking teacher would be absent for the beginning of the spring term as he recovered. Therapy, physio and unexpected meetings with his father’s contacts littered those days. The making and use of newer technology in the field of prosthetics meant the development of something pricey, but capable of working better with Warren’s work. By the time Warren returned, mostly recovered, but banged up, his left arm was replaced with one made of metal and mechanisms. While he was still rattled about what happened, he began to, over the remaining months of the school year, adjust. Initially, loud noises and metal scrapes made hair stand on end, driving required mental preparation and constantly, he fretted over Penny and her well-being.
[break][break]
However, the accident sparked determination to live his life as he saw fit. There would inevitably be sacrifices or moments missed, but for the most part, Warren wished to enjoy those years without question or hesitancy. Thus, he took things with a loud sense of cheer. What happened to his arm? Well, obviously it was viciously chewed up by the machine over there! Be careful with it! How did he have a daughter so young? Dumb, but never regretted the decision. Stay in school, don’t have kids while being a kid regardless. Things happened, and Warren was willing to take them as they came.
