A bright smile stretches across his face as a chuckle leaves his lips. "Oh! Eddie isn't that bad! I swear, he's a real nice guy once you get to know him. Just a little prickly is all." He gives a small shrug as he speaks. "I don't think he means any harm. If anything, I would just call him a little grumpy, but I swear, the guy had a good heart."
"Ah! The young artist girl," he begins, bellowing out a laugh. "I don't know her too well, but I can say, she's a creative kid! Got Eddie and I to pose for her picture! It came out wonderfully! I hope she keeps painting, even if it is just a hobby." There is a smile on his face, an expression that suggests he was impressed by her work.
A bittersweet sheen comes over his eyes, a whispering of disappointment, but not aimed at the subjects of the conversations. "If... it weren't for them, I probably would have been a lot worse off. My mom, she helped me look after Penny when she was little so I could study and get this far. Then my dad? Sure, he isn't around all the time, but when he is... he takes an interest and makes sure I, mom and Penny are taken care of... I owe them a lot for... uh... my mischief." There is no elaboration, merely an awkward smile as Warren scratches the back of his head.
The mere mention of the name brings a flicker to his golden eyes. Contempt perhaps? "I don't know what she is doing nowadays, nor do I care really... She is Penny's mother, but... I'm fairly certain I nor my daughter wants anything to do with her." He pauses, contemplating, as though the words he is about to state burn his lips. "But, if she asked to meet her daughter... it would be Penny's choice, not mine."
Immediately, there is light to his expression at the mere mention of her name. An indescribable warmth breathes life into his countenance as a smile settles on his face. "I love her to pieces. Sometimes it's hard to believe that when her mother was pregnant, I was uncertain about fatherhood, but that little girl? One of the best 'mistakes' I made in my life if you can even call her that. I damn well wouldn't. Being a parent that young... it was hard, but if I waited? I wouldn't have Penny, it would be some other kid." The softest laugh leaves his lips, as though recalling memories. "She looks a lot like Marie... but I don't care. That smart, clever and artistic kid is my kid... How could I get hung up on what she looks like? She is my little girl, no matter how tall she grows."
Something about his expression is almost shell-shocked, as though stunned someone would even mention the man long put to rest. Obvious glints of sorrow glisten in the golden hues of his eyes. "I... well... He may not be around anymore, but... My grandfather was a good man... Mom says I'm a lot like him... Thinks spending all that time with him rubbed off on me." A smile brimming with melancholy touches his face. "He is the reason I teach metalworking though... His workshop meant the world to me. It was somewhere to escape when the world got hard..." There is a pause as a gentle frown touches his face. "I just wish he told me he was sick..."
A broad grin and shining golden eyes gaze at you. "Will! He's a sweet guy!" A loud laugh rumbles out of Warren like thunder. "He's been very kind about me... uh-" He pauses, a slight flush from embarrassment touching his cheeks. "Me... entering the library like a bull in a china shop... Very patient about it! Probably gives me more grace than I deserve some days." A lighter-toned laugh leaves his smiling lips. "He's so nice about it and I really appreciate it. Even puts up with me chatting his ear off! Oh- and Dunkin'! He was kind enough to let me pet his service animal! They're both very nice, buuut, Dunkin' can be a bit dramatic." He laughs again, clearly enjoying the slight recounting.
