Like the ocean's dancing with a storm, I will dance with you
Through rolling clouds the last rays of the late summer sun could still be seen casting its light across the quiet waters of firefly pond. It held very little warmth now, so Farrah found himself reaching up to adjust his scarf, pulling it up just a little snugger around his neck. Years between Wales and Canada, and he still couldn’t seem to grow accustomed to the chill creeping up at season’s change.
Days like these were when he missed Puerto Rico the most, but those were thoughts he couldn’t allow himself to dwell on. The past was the past, and in the present he had a friend to hunt down.
Cyrus had promised to eat lunch with him, yet no sooner than Farrah had managed to fetch the lunch he’d so painstakingly made, was his friend gone. Vanished into thin air - or more likely - found some tree to hide away in. There was no shortage of trees on campus, but only a few were far enough away from student traffic that they were safe to search.
That’s where he decided to start, making his way around the pond while peeking up between the great green sentinels that crested the water. It hadn’t taken long before hints of neon peeked out from between branches, a surefire sign he’d found his mark. Farrah’s eyes rolled lightly, his free hand braced on his hip in his best impression of disappointment, pout and all.
“There you are! I was looking all over for you, now stop being a squirrel and eat lunch with me like you promised!”
It was too bad his voice cracked at the end, falling into a huffed giggle that broke the illusion of disappointment. He was in fact quite happy to spend any kind of time with Cyrus, ever worried the other would decide he’d had enough of him.

Cyrus had originally planned to wait for Farrah near the buildings and find a nice spot to have some lunch. However, while he was gone things happened to make quick change. Welll, more so he decided he needed to find a nice tree to hide in because some assholes were walking around. Ones he didn't want to be entangled with or get Farrah mixed with either. Least he wanted was to cause Farrah to have an unpleasant lunch and then some. So, as per usual, Cyrus took to the tallest tree he could find with the most cover. Having made himself comfortable around the branches with his neon and black jacket on to keep him warm as it was a cooler day. His eyes had been looking for Farrah but he had seemed to miss the tiny junior. He didn't even seen him when he approached the tree. Cyrus only knew he was there when he was suddenly being scolded and called a squirrel. Looking down, he smirked like a feline and waved. "Oh hey!" He called out happily, hanging upside down from one branch and twisting down to the next until he was hanging from the last branch. "Man, you are really good at spotting this here squirrel! I didn't even see you." He said, amused by the whole ordeal. With a final twisted, Cyrus dismounted from the tree, and tilted his whole body to one side as he noted pack Farrah had. "What's for lunch today? Something yummy?"

Farrah would be lying if he said his pulse didn’t jump up into his throat when Cyrus started making his way down, clenching and unclenching his fist every time a branch groaned under his friend’s weight.
It was only when Cyrus landed on the ground that Farrah let out his breath, chuckling nervously. “Y-yeah, well you’re not so hard to spot.” He reached out, pressing the pad of a single finger against the vibrant yellow plastic of Cyrus’ necklace; Neon went a long way for visibility, there was a reason highlighter orange was the go-to color for hunting safety gear.
“I swear, one day you’ll fall and get really hurt trapezing around the trees like that.” He warned for the umpth time, but his heart really wasn’t in it today. If Cyrus had felt the need to bolt, there was probably a reason why, and that made him feel a little concerned. “Did something happen? you usually don’t just vanish on me like that.” His head tilted until his thick braid fell off his shoulder, which he then swept up and tossed around his neck like a second scarf.
When all was said and done, the pond was a nice and scenic place to eat lunch. There weren’t that many insects around this season, and the waterfall made for comfortable white noise in the background.
“Mm, nothing too grand- I just made some different types of lunch wraps.” He took a step backwards, placing the lunch bag down between two great tree roots. He looked up at Cyrus with a grin, then smoothed his coat before he sat down on the gnarled root as if it was a chair, thankful that the permafrost hadn’t started to set in yet. "We should just eat here, it's pretty nice."

As much as Cyrus would like to reinstate he could be hard to find when he wanted to be, he couldn't deny that his favorite colors could give him away. If you knew what to look for and where he usually roamed, he supposed, he could be quite easy to locate. In response, he only grinned at Farrah as he rocked back and forth on his heels with a small chuckle. "If I do fall, it'll only be once." he countered, though that was a lie. He had fallen out of trees before and pulled out of them as well. Each time left him winded and with a new bruise more often then not. Of course, he wasn't going to outright admit it even if they both knew it to be true. "Ah, sorry about that Farrah. I just saw some fella's I really didn't want to interact with today - so I become a squirrel. But don't worry, I was keeping an eye out for ya!" Just so happened the smaller of the two had spotted him far sooner then he did Farrah. As soon as Farrah sat down, Cyrus joined them with their legs spread out and hands behind to support him. "Hey, wraps are always amazing! I consider that to be quite the treat." He beamed, moving from side to side. Boy couldn't hold still to save his life. "So, how is class today? Mines been, hmmm, average." And so far no lockers to the face so that was an A+ in his book!

There was skepticism to the way Farrah’s brow arched. It wasn’t that he thought Cyrus was lying, but rather that he thought the other might underestimate where a moment’s inattention could lead him. “If you say so..” He mumbled in reply while ruminating through the lunch bag to pull out the goodies for the both of them. Not an unfriendly tone, but perhaps a little concerned still. Farrah was nothing if not a worrier.
Yet it was clear Cyrus didn’t worry about it, and Farrah was trying to not be overbearing so he let it go. Instead he smiled, stretching his arm out with two different wraps in his hand, neatly folded into wax paper. “Here- One is cajun chicken, the other is ground beef with like.. taco-bell spices? I don’t know, I found the recipes online so we’ll just have to see if they are good or not.” He had hopes for the cajun chicken, it had smelled good at least.
For himself he’d foregone the meat, and loaded up on more vegetables and rice instead. Farrah only reached for his own lunch after making sure Cyrus got his, and even then he first stopped to hum over the other’s question. “Mmm, yeah, average sounds about right. You have drama theater after this, right? Are you working on anything exciting?” After lunch was usually when the day ramped up. Electives were far more interesting than the core subjects, if simply because those were the subjects they’d gotten to pick for themselves.

Honestly, Cyrus was going to casually put his worries away and not have them bother Farrah in the slightest. Nothing had happened anyways since he avoided the issue in the first place. Now, he was happily going to have lunch with one of his good friends. His hands moved from the ground to come together, fingers drumming against each other with glee. "Oooooh, a experimental one? That sounds exciting!" He accepted the wrap and held them to his face, giving both a happy sniff. His eyes rolled back dramatically, "Holy, these smell amazing!" But which one to eat first? He hadn't a clue. Maybe he would have half of each, ya that sounded like a good idea! He unwrapped the cajun chicken one first, and saw to his delight that it had been cut in half. If this boy could sprout cat ears they would be wiggling around happily a would his tail. A shame he couldn't. He took one big bite and almost died as he made the sounds of ascending to the heavens. Farrah's meals were always so good he could die. "So good..." He mumbled with a mouth full of cajun chicken wrap. Taking to leaning against the tree, he took his time enjoying his half. He waited until his mouth was empty before speaking again. "Ah, not much. Everyone is still debating on what they want to do next. A play, an improve, or just mess around. Wish they would figure it out, I miss being in the catwalk."

Knowing the limitations of his own cooking skills, Farrah could only hope the lunch was half as exciting as Cyrus was excitable. He didn’t want to disappoint his friend after having insisted on making lunch a few times a week, instead of just always picking from the pretty good menu served at the cafeteria. The cooks surely knew more than he did, but he’d never learn if he just ate ready-made meals.
“Really? Oh, I’m glad.” If his hair hadn’t been so thick, Cyrus might have noticed the tips of his ears had flushed red with relief and happiness from the praise - as it did every time a similar scene had happened. He’d never willingly admit it, but he’d woken up terribly early to prepare their lunch. It really made him appreciate the effort his mom must have gone through to make him lunch everyday while they lived on their own.
His own wrap was pretty good as well, and mentally he was noting down all the things he thought could be improved for next time: a little more salt, maybe some spicy mayo, a little more chili, less tomato. A train of thoughts only broken when Cyrus’ voice chimed out, bringing his attention upwards with a grin, leaning his weight sideways until his shoulder was pressed up against the thick trunk of the tree.
“Aha, suffering from having too many choices? Then, if you could pick, what would you like to do?” Out of what little he knew about theater, a play seemed the most logical. For Farrah’s own preference, he thought putting up a ballet for Christmas seemed like a grand time. The nutcracker was always seasonally appropriate, and this was definitely not selfishly loaded with his own desire to play the sugar plum fairy.

Farrah would never have to worry about ever disappointing the young man. Cyrus' mother, Miley, couldn't cook to save her life. The woman set boiling water aflame and on a good night could produce something - somewhat- edible. McDonalds and Caleb's mother was often dishing him out grub in his childhood. He was thrilled with the food Farrah had given him and soon the first half of the wrap completely disappeared within a matter of seconds. His original idea to sample both perished as he worked on the second half of the same. "Oh, I don't know. I like improve and anything that consist of dancing. It is getting late in the year, so maybe something seasonal would be fun." He concluded after a bit of thought. "What do you think would be worth suggesting?" Sometimes Dance got involved in the theater program - for obvious reasons. Someone had to teach the theater kids to dance outside of the grapevine.

What he wanted was simple, but somehow Farrah doubted the entire theater club would consent to learning ballet in three months. The thought alone made him giggle, all bright and crispy like the autumn air. “The nutcracker! I think you should convince them to run the nutcracker ballet for Christmas. That's be such a hit, and I would of course help~”
More than help, even. It’d be particularly funny to get Cyrus into a pair of ballet tights! “Just imagine~ you could play the mouse king, and finally get into ballet~” He was still giggling about it between bites as he chowed down on more of his wrap, entirely too pleased at both the tights and the rat costume idea.
Of course he was mostly joking about it. Mostly.
“Or, in lieu of that, I think some kind of dance would be fun. We’re overdue a collaboration between the dance and the theater club.” Perhaps they could do a modern take on the nutcracker, with other types of dance? a breakdancing mouse king could be hilarious.

"The Nutcracker." Cyrus parrots back to Farrah, a dark brow raised in question. Their giggling made that brow grow even higher as he shook his head. Soon, he shook his wrap at his friend. "I sometimes think, you, want to see me in tights so bad!" He could see Farrah wanting that but he also knew they would be thrilled to see Cyrus do ballet of all dance. While Cyrus had nothing against that type of dance, it just wasn't his thing. He knew how to do it but - hmm, he wasn't sure if he wanted to stand on his toes all day and look like a duck. "I'll have you know I would make a great mouse king. You would be jealous of my ratty skills." He mused, taking a big bite out of the wrap. "But, If I was the mouse king you would have to get the lead and dance around in a cute little tu-tu." With that said, he flapped his hands like a little bird to make a point. Really, though, the idea of the two combining to do something together was fun. He wasn't against it but tights, hmmm, he wasn't so sure on that one. "Regardless, might be fun. I might bring it up. Maybe."

“The Nutcracker!” Farrah repeats with even more enthusiasm, leaning forward where he sits as if that would push the idea deeper into Cyrus’ mind, tights, rats, fairies and all. “I do! But mostly I just want more boys to do ballet, it’s a lot of fun you know? it’s not like you need to go en pointe either. Most men don’t.” He’d seen a small surge of men on youtube who trained in pointe shoes, but that seemed largely to be a choice they made and not the standard.
Regardless, that was not the outright refusal Farrah had half-expected. It was awfully brave of Cyrus to assume the tutu was nearly as horrifying to him as the tights were to the other. Or even horrifying at all. He snorted, very well pleased with himself now. “Oh, is that all? We have a deal then! I’ll be the sweetest sugar-plum fairy you’ve ever seen.. if you convince the theater group, anyway.”
That’d be the hard part. Farrah’s faith in his friend was perhaps not so strong that he assumed the other man would manage to talk a bunch of potentially insecure teenagers into prancing around in spandex. “I think it’d be a grand time, but I’ll respect it if the group decides to.. I don’t know.. do a play of A Christmas Carol instead.” His free hand ran circles in the air as he tried to think of theater plays that were seasonal, and in the end all he could think of was one. “But then we’ll have to brainstorm what to suggest for the dance group too.. Ahh..”
As much enthusiasm as Farrah had for ballet, he shared none of it with the prospect of discussing events. Too many voices, and it always ended in heated discussions that made his skin crawl.

Farrah was rewarded with a laugh. Of course, they would love for more boys to do ballet! They knew quite well that Cyrus had no shame with so ever and would wear a pair of tights, regardless of what he was actually saying about it. "The Nutcracker." He echoed again with another laugh. "Man, you really do want my nuts to get cracked, don't you?" He teased the other. Leaning forward to poke Farrah right in the cheek. "But, fine, for you I will bring it up. They may agree to it or they might laugh at the idea. Either way, I'll see what they might think about it." It probably wouldn't be too hard to bring up. Everyone there seemed to like all forms of theater so what did he have to lose? One wrap was now completely finished as he leaned back with half of the second. Man, growing boys really did have a bottomless pit! "Oh, that reminds me! Isn't the school about to have a festival of some kind going on soon? You going to go to it?"

With his free hand Farrah lightly swatted away the finger poking at his cheek, nose scrunched as he laughed in what was decidedly not the disgust he’d tried to portray. “Eww, you made that sound so gross!! What your nuts get up to is none of my business, you squirrel.” In fact, the less he knew about his friend’s nuts, the better.
Sometimes Cyrus was such a menace. It was both endearing and far too easily prone to making Farrah’s cheeks flush in embarrassment, like they had done now. To compose himself he took a big bite of his wrap, stuffing his cheeks like the squirrel he accused his friend of being. An irony that was not lost to him, even though he had no plans on bringing it up.
“Thaaanks~ I’ll owe you one~” He was all smiles again after he’d finished his wrap, folding the paper neatly in his lap before putting it away into the bag. Littering in nature was a no-go, and they weren’t close enough to a trash bin for him to bother tossing it away right now. “It’s fine if they decide on something else, I won't hold that against you.” There weren’t that many kids into ballet in dance class either, so Farrah knew it was a bit of a long shot. There was a chance they’d rather do a Halloween themed play too, that was the season after all.
“Yeah, the masquerade festival! I want to go, but I haven’t made any plans yet.. What about you?”

He couldnt help it, the response alone that he received had him rolling. He laughed so hard he almost choked on the last part of his wrap that he bit into at the wrong moment. Having to hit himself a few times on the chest to make it go down. After a final cough, he responded with a winded laugh. "Never knew you had such a dirty little mind there, Farrah." oh boy, that was going to stick with him for a while. The look on their face was just so goddamn priceless! Having now become as full as teenage boy could get, he leaned back onto the grass with a content sigh. "Mhm, bet your sweet little cheeks I'll be going! Here they will have a dance, which as my name all over it! Plus a haunted house which I will also be going into. Heh, drag Caleb in it too annnnnnd you're welcome to come with us Farrah! Should be a lot of fun." A nice adventure with friends, stalls to shop at, a dance floor to claim as his own! It sounded great and what would make it even better is he could snag a sweetie to party with later. Doubtful it'll happen but it's always nice to dream, isn't?

Like the ocean's dancing with a storm, I will dance with you
The pink across his cheeks spread like wildfire up his face, quickly painting him a color so close to sunburnt he felt dizzy for how much blood had rushed there. “Mnottt!” The sound was sooner a panicked squeal than a word, all sharp whistling that left him mortified, reaching with his free hand to pull the scarf up so high it almost covered his eyes.
“I do not!! You talked about y-your n-nuts first!!“ His voice was less shrill now, if only marginally, and unfortunately also muffled by the thick wool that had consumed most of his head. If he got any more embarrassed he’d start steaming in the crisp autumn air.
First nuts, now cheeks? Farrah had to fight the urge to hide further into his clothes, withdrawing like a turtle into its shell. “Y-you should chew your food properly before you swallow, and stop teasing meee!!” His composure lasted for a few seconds, before the pitched tone returned, and his newly emerged face felt burning hot again.
“Will you tease me all day then too??” Farrah’s pout was entirely real now, though more friendly offended than truly offended. He was pretty sure Cyrus knew how bad he was with horror things, yet he did want to go to the festival with friends. “Maybe.. if Caleb doesn’t mind me tagging along?” The stalls, the food, the costumes, the dancing- all that sounded great. “D-do we haveeee to go to the haunted house tho? maybe I’ll just wait outside for that.”
God, he wasn’t sure if he was ready to need someone to walk him to the toilet at 2am because his scaredycat ass had gotten spooked at a school festival. That might just end him.
