Now it was Russell's turn to be impressed with Daven's wrestling ability. Of course, he had a year over Mason, so he would look good on the mat with the newcomer. For a moment, Russell thought he might actually lose his bet. But he soon doubted it. He just kept a close eye on what he was seeing on the mat before him and hoping he could remember some of those holds and moves. He would also have to watch a lot of videos on YouTube to learn some moves and holds to use if he ever wrestled Mason, which he hoped wouldn't happen too soon. They despised each other and no doubt, Mason would probably put himn in a submission hold and hurt him rather than try to pin him. Why would Russell think this? Because that's what Russell would try to do to Mason. He probably should be taking notes, but he realized that would really give his reason for being here away. Though he should be obvious that he was scouting Mason out. He was really as good as Russell feared. At least, that's what he thought. He wasn't into wrestling, so he didn't really know if he was or not. He had to find someone who knew about wrestling but wasn't on the team to assess Mason's ability properly, he thought. Meanwhile, the match in front of him was hard to turn away from. And he definitely was rooting for Daven to pull off the impossible and beat the freshman. Mason Sato

It hadn't been agreed to, but as both he and Daven were wrestlers, Mason figured that a pin would decide the winner of the match. No submission or points difference (that he was pretty sure neither he or Daven were keeping) would matter. So therefore, Mason fought to stop Daven taking him to the mat. Dropping his hips low into Daven he tried to wriggle backwards away from Daven, to break his hold on his legs, by stretching him out. It must have worked because he could feel himself slipping back and see Daven getting stretched out. All of a sudden Daven let go one of his hands and that was all Mason needed. Reaching down, he wrapped an arm around Daven loose arm at the elbow and lifted it up away from his other hand. By now each of the two grapplers were huffing a little as they wrestled- clearly giving their all. Mason could feel Daven propping himself up by planting one foot firmly on the ground to steady himself, b the way his muscles on that side of his body tensed. Mason wasn't going to be turning him to his back that way any time soon- if at all. It was time to do something different. They hadn't agreed either to the '10 second passivity' rule, whereby if nothing happened after 10 seconds, they stand up and go back to the center of the mat and start again. Snaking out his other arm from under Daven's armpit on his other side, Mason pushed the arm under Daven's arm at the chest. He pushed into daven then, until he felt resistance- then made his move. Reaching across Daven's chest, he grabbed hold of the other arm he had just moved and grabbed it above the elbow. locking him up. With a massive jerk that took its power from his shoulders, he not only pulled Daven's upper body to the side, but also took a massive side-step around the side of Daven. Thankfully for Mason- it worked. Daven's back now exposed, Mason dropped atop of him, both his arms racing to wrap around Daven's waist. As quick as he could Mason's stuck his ear to Daven's back, his head tilted to one side. He worked his arms around quickly so the crux of his elbow found Daven's lower ribs. Then he squeezed. Mason squeezed with all his might, like his arms were a nutcracker, cracking a hard nut. Daven knew what was going on- and he wasn't going to let Mason have his way. Having your ribs squished was not nice- and Daven knew what he had to do. Using the exceptional power of his legs and hips that wresters like he and Mason he had, Daven crawled forward- trying to roll Mason's hands and break the grip. Mason wasn't going to let that happen either. Squeezing tighter, he lifted Daven's hips off the mat and drove into Daven diagonally as opposed to forward as Daven was trying to do. It was now a battle to see who was stronger- Mason in his arms or Daven at his core. They were definitely fighting to do what they wanted. All of a sudden, Mason felt the moment he was looking for. Rolling to the side, he rolled Daven over his head and to his stomach again. As soon as he felt Daven's chest touch the mat, he quickly did it again- pulling off at least two Gut Wrench moves before Daven could do anything. Trying to spring to his feet from a sudden seated position, Daven began to try and push Mason's arms down and stretch him put at the same time. Mason squeezed Daven hard, trying to take him to the mat quickly. From a seated position Daven was able to bring one leg up, then the other until he was almost standing up. Waiting until Daven was almost standing, Mason jumped up behind him- still holding him around the waist. Taking a deep step around to the side of Daven- twisting his opponent's midsection, Mason lifted with his legs and arms, as he arched backwards and to the side, taking Daven off his feet off his feet and to his back. From there Mason scrambled around to wrap his own legs as round one of Daven's leg to lift it off the mat, therefore giving him the body leverage to try and drive both of Daven's shoulders to the mat. Which was not going to be easy as both of them struggled like two angry writhing snakes...

Without any doubt, this match was much better than anything Russell ever saw, in person or on YouTube. Most matches he saw weren't this interesting or thrilling. At least, not as far as Russell was concerned. Mason was definitely the dominant wrestler, or so it seemed to Russell. Maybe he shouldn't have assumed Mason was going to beat Daven so easily. And yet, Daven's year experience didn't seem to matter, which Russell thought was weird. Of course, Russell didn't know their wrestling stats. Maybe Mason had a lot more wins than Daven had, maybe they both had a lot of wins. He would be quite surprised to learn that they lost a lot of matches with what he was seeing from both wrestlers. All he knew was he wasn't enthusiastic about wrestling either boy soon. He was certainly into the match, not only because he had a small bet on it, but because it was really thrilling. He expected Mason to win several times and thought Daven had beat Mason once. And yet, here they were still battling it out. There were a couple of times Russell feared that Mason might've hurt Daven and he felt like calling the thing off. But he didn't think either of the boys would've appreciate that. He also wondered what would've happened if there was a referee here to oversee the match. What would he have done? Would he have stopped the match at any point for some reason? Maybe that was why what Russell was watching was so something he had never seen before. Most of the matches on YouTube had referees blowing their whistles and interrupting the action a few times. Maybe wrestling matches shouldn't have referees, Russell thought. If the wrestlers got too aggressive and started to actually fight one another, the coaches could come out and stop them. Or the -- no, he thought. There had to be a reason the refs were out there. He was just glad there wasn't one here to deal with this match. It was too good to miss. He had to admit to himself it was a well spent hundred dollars. Mason Sato

Neither of the teenage gladiators were going to give an inch to their opponents. Daven wasn't going to let the Freshman pin him and Mason wasn't going to let the older kid get away from him after all his hard work to get where he was. As Daven arched his back- all his weight on the top of his head as he struggled to get to his stomach, Mason tried to not only keep him there- but also break Daven down and pin him. Both of them were clearly stronger than they looked. The muscles that they both possessed were clearly straining and bulging under their clothes- a clear indicator that they were both much stronger than Russell.
Mason had no idea how he was going to beat this guy. It felt like he was as strong as he was, but Daven had more stamina. He could probably last a lot longer resisting Mason's attempt to pin him, as they both slide along the surface of the mat, like they were one living entity. This match looked like being won by technical skill- they were pretty much evenly matched physically. Mason had to think and think fast- they were both at a stalemate and going no where. It seemed to him that his control of Daven's leg was keeping them in stalemate. If he let it go free, then his options of what to do would open up. Then again, it also gave Daven a chance to do something. Things could change. But that was if Mason let it happen. Had this been a formal match, Mason and Daven pretty much knew that the ref would have stood them back up after nothing happened after 10 seconds of action (Daven was no where close to being pinned). However neither of them were ready to admit they had nothing they could do. Russell wasn't a wrestler, he was just someone who had cooked this match up between them.
There was nothing for it- Mason had to let Daven go. There were dozens of other ways for Mason to win this match. There were also a number or ways that Daven could win this match too. Judging the moment right, Mason uncurled his leg from around Daven's and released the pressure he had been putting on Daven's hips. Quickly he scuttled backwards to his feet and crouched in low, ready for Daven. Following close behind, Daven was on his feet watching Mason carefully. Didn't take long until they both locked up again- pushing, pulling and using the power of their hips to push into each other. Both of them were working towards their next move and waiting for the other one to make that one momentary mistake they could take advantage of.

Russell was trying to remember some of the holds he saw the two boys used on the other. He would have to watch some wrestling videos on YouTube to see some other holds. He remembered one in particular which might be a surprise to either of the boys wrestling. In a weird way, he was in the mood to wrestle himself. But either of these boys could make him a pretzel in -- well, a few seconds. He kept an eye on how they locked up and how one of them got out of that to the next step of the match. Then of course, how to defend yourself from whatever oner boy wanted to do with the other. He tried to keep all of this in his head. The problem was each "round" threw new moves and holds at him and he forgot the others used in the "rounds" before. It was an awesome match, no matter what, and Russell was rooting for both boys. He might have thought Mason had the edge, but Daven wasn't letting him get the win too easily. Mason Sato

There was heavy breathing now from Mason and Daven. Neither was holding back from the other and each now had a healthy respect for the other. Certainly Mason wasn't going to try anything with Daven unless he knew it would work. But then again- taking a risk or trying something unexpected could pay off. Was it worth trying? Only one way that he would find out. Uncoupling a hand from the back of Daven's neck, he reached across the front of his body as he took a quick little step back. As he expected, Daven didn't react- suspecting something. It was what Mason wanted. He grabbed at Daven's wrist and gave it a hard quick pull across the front of his body. As soon as he felt the slightest give in Daven's balance, he sprang.
Freeing his other arm, he wrapped it tight around Daven's upper arm and bicep, driving his shoulder hard into the upper part of Daven's shoulder and driving down into it. He stepped his outside leg, deep and behind Daven's nearest leg, he was able to use more of the strength of his hips to drive into Daven. His response was to reach across and push hard against the side of Mason's head, trying to put as much distance between the two of them and weaken Mason's grip on his arm.
It wasn't what Mason had planned to happen- but he instinctively used the situation. He drove Daven's arm that he was holding, up and hard against the one that was pressed against his head. Releasing it, he ducked under Daven's arm and drove under him low and into the side of Daven's hips. On contact he could feel the change of Daven's point of balance and kept going. Wrapped his inside arm around the upper part of Daven's thigh real tight, he started to lift his leg off the ground and way from him, resting it on his hip as he squatted under him. His other hand reached out across Daven's front and grabbed at his knee- blocking his attempts to move. Fighting for balance, Daven placed a hand on the mat and tried to push Mason off him. Mason instantly moved like flash lightening at this point. He reached his outside arm under Daven's other leg- his other leg still resting on Mason's hip, driving his shoulder into Daven's leg. His other hand he drew away from Daven's knee and reached under Daven to grab hold of his own hand at the wrist.
His arms set, Mason twisted his upper body to his right and ripped Daven's trapped leg across his body, as he arched over. Daven was helpless to prevent Mason spinning him over on to his back, as Mason landed atop of him, his shoulder now buried deep in his hip. From there at an angle that made it hard for Daven to defend from, Mason began to climb up Daven's body- wrapping his arms one at a time around him as he drove him slowly backwards towards the mat.
