Russell went to play some pool in the Common Room. No one else was in the room, so he could play without any trouble from anybody. He racked the pool balls in the plastic triangle rack in his unique way. The Six Ball was on top with the Two Ball on the bottom left corner and the One Ball was on the bottom right corner. He was glad no one was here to complain that the One Ball wasn't at the top as usual. The Eight Ball was in the middle as it was supposed to be. He made sure the rack was tight and after a few seconds, he lifted the rack over the balls. He went to the opposite end of the table and took out the White Cueball and placed it a quarter from the right of the end of the pool table. Then he took his own cue stick from its case. There were two sticks in the large case. One of the cue sticks was in four parts. Russell used to break the balls and to take shots that needed a smaller cue caused by a cramp space. He put the cue stick together and took a square pool chalk from a pocket on the case and chalked the cue stick.
Russell moved the cue ball, something he couldn't do if he was playing with someone else. He put it down about a few inches away from where it was originally. He aimed the cue ball at the Six Ball. He ran the cue stick in the area between his thumb and forefinger a few times until he was ready to slam it into the Six Ball, hoping to break the balls and end up with one of them going into a pocket. He would be really lucky if the Eight Ball went into the pocket and technically, if it did, he would win the game. That was moot, since it didn't go into a pocket. But he Three Ball fell into a pocket. Russell now concentrated on the solid balls to see what his next best shot would be. He aimed the cue ball at the Two Ball which was near the side pocket. He took a few seconds to ready the shot and then he hit the ball. The problem was that there was a noise and he ended up hitting the ball on the side, instead of dead on, missing his shot completely.
Russell was incensed. He looked up to see the person who made him miss his shot.
