AUTUMN ✧ SATURDAY MORNING ✧ SUNNY ✧ OUTFIT[attr="class","brenpost-o"]Brendon stood in the doorway of the ground floor dorm, his brow furrowing deeper with each passing second. A permanent scowl tugged at his features as he took in the small space. He couldn’t believe his bad luck—first, his mother had moved to Wisteria, and now this. The room was cramped and smelled strange—a stark contrast from the golden suite he’d had last year. With a heavy sigh, he lifted the paper with his room assignment, and covered his face with his hand. He dragged his luggage inside, glancing between both sides of the room. It was difficult to tell if his roommate had already claimed a side. Aside from the single suitcase by one of the beds, the room was untouched. Resigned, he left his luggage at the foot of the unclaimed bed and immediately stripped it of its sheets and comforter. He swapped out the bedding with his own, but pointedly left everything else packed away. Despite the circumstances, he was determined to be switched back to the suite this year—for solitude and peace. It had been the first time since Noah had been away from everything. Away from home, away from his parents, away from a lot of things. Especially the comfort of his own room all for the sake of attending this new school his parents had enrolled him in. As far as first impressions could go, he'd say that the structure itself really did offer a sight to behold. None of the previous schools he attended could even lift a finger in comparison. But in that same breath, that added a lot more pressure onto Noah's shoulders that he didn't necessarily signed up for. [break][break]
Alas, his parents always had the last say when it came down to the wire, and now he had to face the new sights all on his own. This, of course, only started when his things were securely settled in his dorm room. Noah could literally feel the tension building up in his shoulders with each step he took towards his destination. Of course, after getting lost once or twice along the way, that is. Nevertheless, after he turned to the right hand side down the corridor, he managed to see something that made a little more sense, being the names and numbers that matched the piece of paper he'd been given along with the directions. With a deep breath, he used the key he'd been given in order to unlock the door once he reached his designated room and carefully opened it. Afterwards, he pocketed it back into his tan colored hoodie and peeked inside, only to be greeted by the one who seemed to be his roommate for the next semester. Noah slowly moved further inside, after he managed to gather up his courage, and carefully closed the door behind him. His suitcase rolled along behind him as he moved over to the available side of the room and shifted in place after he halted his steps beside the bed. [break][break]
Fingers pinched the hem of his jacket, using it to ground him a bit more, before he opened his mouth. "I'm.. Noah." he mumbled softly, almost in a whispered tone. Man, socializing really is a lot more difficult than he initially expected it to be.

"Third." he answered plainly. The way Noah awkwardly stood in place made it painfully clear that he wasn't used to people, let alone be able to maintain a conversation going for a long period of time. The moment his company uttered their name, Noah offered a single nod of acknowledgement. He cleared his throat, softly, then licked his lips to try and rid it of the dryness it withheld. "Sorry, I'm.. not really good with people." he mumbled almost underneath his breath as he fiddled with the edge of his top. [break][break]
Heck, he hadn't even had the gall to look up and study Brendan a bit better, but after a moment or two, he decided to finally take a chance to change that bit at least. Noah then brought his hand up to rub against the side of his arm, only to glance off to a side in his futile attempt of ensuring his composure remained intact. "Have you, um.. " he momentarily trailed off as he pinched the fabric of his own shirt. "..been here for long?" he inquired, partially having expected for this exchange to not go well at all. Better to brace himself for anything, right?

Took in a couple of seconds to breathe in, then gradually exhaled in an attempt to recollect himself. His mother and father had always been so good with people, why couldn't he have inherited some of that extroverted capability? Alas, life has always been a cruel mistress, especially when it had Noah in mind. The teen rubbed his thumb against the hem of his attire and offered a single nod of acknowledgement to the response he obtained. At least.. this person seemed nice? At least he hoped, anyway.[break][break]
For the time being, the mental assessment Noah had reached a positive, so he'll simply go along with that rather than dwell too much on the what if's. "Oh.." he trailed off before he hummed, especially when the question had been directed towards him afterwards. "This is my first time here. I used to go to a public school before, but.. my parents.. they thought this place would be good for me, so.." had he said too much? Did he provide unneeded information? Did he annoy his roommate already? Many of these questions were to remain unknown to him, but the look on his face offered a bit of a hint for Brendon to follow if he so wished.

Noah remained quiet as he listened to Brendon's explanation that followed. It offered Noah a slightly better painted picture of the amount of knowledge his roommate had. Noah bobbed his head in a nod as he attempted to gather the bits and pieces of vocabulary he had tucked away behind those almost unused vocal chords. This had been the longest conversation he's had so far, admittedly, but he wasn't about to tell his companion that. Noah had at least a little more tact than that, despite his social disadvantages. "It's, um.. it's very .. different." he agreed with yet another nod when he finally composed himself. [break][break]
"Do you.. like it here?" he inquired softly as he raised his gaze to reach Brendon's. In the meantime, Noah shifted in place as he practically expected to gain permission to sit. His mother had engraved in his mind that he should always ask for permission for things, and if it wasn't offered from the start, then he shouldn't take it for granted. At least that's what he recalled throughout his lifetime anyway. He never exactly had a good, or bad, relationship with his parents. They were simply.. there. Noah had been provided for, whatever he needed, but the one thing he lacked had always been them. The warmth of their embrace remained alien to him, but that could be considered a story for another day.

Glanced up the moment his roommate started to answer his question which, in turn, made Noah perk up. Even if he felt dread the very first few minutes after he arrived, Brendon's replies offered Noah some sense of comfort. His neutral stance made that social anxiety gradually wither to some degree and allowed Noah's body to slowly relax, to the point of it being visually noticeable. Offered a single nod, yet again, as he slowly eased himself onto his bed for the semester. "It.. isn't bad to tolerate something if it doesn't feel bad." he mused softly as he glanced back up to Brendon.[break][break]
While he wasn't particularly used to interacting with others, this whole exchange felt oddly relaxing. Despite still feeling a bit awkward. "I saw some students were, um.. doing something on a blackboard outside on the way here. Are we.. supposed to do that when we arrive?" his head then tilted off to one side, almost like some sort of confused animal as those golden hues remained fixed on Brendon a little while longer. Of course, he did stare at the wall from time to time, just to ground himself.

Brendon glanced between his own luggage and bed, still reluctant to unpack. Despite being pleasantly surprised by his roommate’s persona, he was still going to get that suite. He couldn’t comfortably live through an entire year sharing a room with someone else. Noah’s voice regained Brendon’s attention. “I saw some students were, um… doing something on the blackboard outside on the way here.” He pointed out, tilting his head in a way that made him look like some sort of lost little schoolboy. “Are we… supposed to do that when we arrive?”“Oh, uh… yeah.” Brendon answered, casting a brief glance at the door. “We’re supposed to write our names on it. Some students write random messages or… whatever.”He’d seen plenty of messages, from positivity to gross, immature jokes, and the reminder only fueled his desire to get that pristine suite two floors up. The unnaturally blond teen stared at his roommate as he spoke and explained the purpose of the board which he'd seen. A couple of nods later, Noah glanced over towards the door. "Do we.. put ours, then?" he inquired, almost sheepish with his question. Nerves started to bubble up to the surface and, in order to display it physically, he mused with the hem of his shirt. Just picked at the loose strings without really aiming to pull them out. So far, his exchange with his new roommate wasn't particularly bad, but he could tell that there were many things hidden underneath. [break][break]
Perhaps things which Noah didn't need to know, or even deserved. At least not in his mind anyway. Slowly, he moved to a stand in order to prop his things against the side of his bed. "Of course," his thoughts interjected finally, not really daring to spare a glance over towards Brendon. "i-if.. you don't want to, that's okay too. I don't.. really mind." Noah bobbed his head in a light nod, understanding wholly if his roommate chose the latter. Why wouldn't he, right?
