It wasn't the first time that Willow stood before his desk, looking confused and bewildered at the sheer amount of books. At least three stacks where pilled up and all looked to be returns, possibly late even. It seemed that whoever had returned them decided to do it when he wasn't around to give them the look. The man sighed softly to himself, hands resting on his hips with his head held downwards. Really, he didn't consider himself to be a scary fellow but he supposed he had that air to him at times. Well, at least another had all ready begun checking the books back in. It was now up to him to replace them back on the proper shelf and in the proper order. Wasn't that going to be absolutely thrilling? A shame Dunkin' had to stay behind for the time being, otherwise he would most definitely have his companion pull the book cart - one he needed to find and fill. Raising his gaze upwards once more, he wondered away from a moment and then returned after a little while with the cart, loaded the books on it, and made his way down the isle. Placing each book, one by one, back on the shelf. Wondering the whole time, why couldn't the books be brought back proper and not all at once, leaving him with a mountain to put away. "Kids..." He thought to himself with a shake of the head. Ah well, at least his books were back and that was all that really mattered at this point and just in time too, he would be closing down the place here shortly. Maybe he would even wonder out to get a cup of tea. That sounded quite nice! @tagged |

The beginnings of the school year prompted the classic methods of catching up with his fellow staff. Frequently, Warren spent the first few days refamiliarizing with the Academy Staff. Today's plan involved greeting Willow, the white-haired librarian of Panacea Academy. A smile was plastered on Warren's face as he strolled down the hallway. Clutched in his hand was a small bag of plastic bag with small cubes of fudge. He hoped after everything, he could smooth any previous issues they had. Quickly, he navigated the hallways, heading to the library where the Willow could often be found.

There were no doubts in Warren's mind that he would find Willow within. If not, he would quickly write up a card and leave the fudge on his desk to return to. Later on, if needed, he could return to catch up with the librarian or at least have a conversation with him. The metalwork teacher opened the doors.

"Hey, Will! I bro- Ow!" The giant's forehead smacked into the top of the doorframe, forgetting his height. "Ah, forgot again."

The brunette ducked under the frame, properly entering the library with a broad grin. Based on his volume, it was evident Warren once again neglected to gauge his voice. Constantly working around loud machines made it difficult to judge, but there was not even an attempt at adjusting his volume. Afterwards, his eyes fixated on the librarian, the loudness still not clicking with Warren.

"Anyways! Brought you some fudge, thought you might like it!" He said, lifting the bag to show Willow without hesitation.

The grin remained on his face as he stood near the front of the library. It was clear Warren still required endless scolding from his fellow staff for his loud, booming voice... Despite being a thirty-one-year-old man who raised a daughter in his youth... It was stunning that being away for a few months appeared to reset Warren's voice awareness and remember the doorframe heights...

With two books in hand, one was placed upon the correct shelf, tucked carefully away amongst its family. At that same moment, he unmistakable heard the call of Warren. In particular, his loud Ow. While Willow might not have heard the impact, but he had certainly hear the after effects. Curiously, he pulled away from the isle he as working within. Leaning out of the isle with a raised brow as he saw Warren standing there. Looking as thrilled as ever and a smile far too large for his gentle face. It made Willow chuckle and wonder if he was the only one in the library that was truly deaf. Warren's voice boomed again as he dangled a bag in the air. One that had a pair of amber eyes staring at it with interest. Tucking the book under one arm, he finally answered both verbally and with sign at the same time. "You're in a library Warren, if you could lower your voice just a little." Willows voice was soft and light as if it was stuck on the lowest setting. He made his way towards Warren and the offered treats. "Heh, but still that is very thoughtful of you, thank you. I take it your day is going well?" While Willow wasn't positive, he assumed the man had probably been visiting all the staff members as he liked to do. |

How did the notion of quiet within certain spaces slip Warren's mind? The man himself found it a mystery but chalked it up to some mental auto-piloting. Even after the incessant reminders about keeping his voice down, the volume ramped back up. The man's face maintained a smiling expression as he watched Willow pop out from the aisles. In an additional 'hello', Warren's prosthetic hand waved at the librarian. Though as the deaf librarian spoke and signed to him, Warren's eyes widened a little. The shock struck Warren immediately, eyes widening as the metallic fingers of the left hand drifted to his mouth.

Afterwards, a significantly quieter, albeit, awkward laugh drifted through the man's lips. He had, unfortunately, done this multiple times to Willow. An apologetic expression touched Warren's face as his smile turned more hesitant, almost guilty.

"Sorry... I... uh... somehow forgot again," he explained with a soft sigh and punctuating chuckle. "Man, I need to stop doing that."

The voice was a significant improvement once the volume was turned down. It leaned a little on the louder side of regular library volumes, but given the Warren's loudness, it was quieter for him. The treat was offered to Willow afterwards, almost as though hoping the sweets would transform into a bit of a peace offering for his volume habits. The nod was quick to follow after the question, the smile renewing and growing stronger.

"Yeah, as usual. I successfully gave an example of how safety is important... yesterday. Then going to give them more study materials today. Kind of wish they were already in the shop though," Warren answered, a full explanation accompanying it. "Have things been good on your end?"

Successful safety examples were not merely the workplace safety videos that reminded someone how every machine was a diabolical death machine if one was stupid. Rather, it involved one of the few farces Warren was willing to maintain for the students. The notion that one of the machines in the school workshop devoured his arm, leaving him with the amputation from his shoulder, downward. Most of the time, it appeared to work given how long ago the car accident was.

Honestly, Willow wasn't too bothered by Warren's tendency to speak like he had a megaphone for a voice. At least he could hear him on a good day with his aids and even on the bad ones he could - well, until he turned off his aids, that he sometimes did when it did become to much. "It's fine, just a polite reminder." He said in his usual fashion. After his hands finished his sentence he held them out to accept the gift gleefully. He rather liked fudge and would never turn down such a thing, even when upset. After he received the sweet gift, he cracked it open. Fished out a piece of fudge and tossed it into his mouth. He made a happy little sound as he both enjoyed the sweet treat and listened to the other. His head cocked to the side. "That so?" This time, he purely signed the question, unwilling to speak with a mouth full of fudge. "You're going to give one of those kids trauma one day." He signed playfully with an amused look in his eye. He couldn't say the method in which the other teach didn't work. If kids were afraid of power tools then at least they would treat them with respect and not, suddenly, lose a limb. As for how his day had been? Well, he only had to wave a hand at the table with stacked books upon it. That there was a clear message that it had been quite the busy day here, but not bad. |

Polite reminder or not, Warren felt awkward requiring one in the first place. Quiet within libraries was a notorious requirement, and the metalwork teacher broke with the utmost frequency. Even in his youth, Warren was promptly scolded by plenty of teachers and it felt it doubled further in adulthood. Those were the moments where students proved to be better behaved than himself... and some received a good chuckle out of Warren being scolded over them.

"Still... I think I have been scolded more times than the students," Warren answered with a quiet, awkward laugh. "I wouldn't doubt if I was your worst offender to the uh... quiet rule."

He watched Willow take the fudge, a clear smile on his face. The addition of the librarian popping one into his mouth made it clear he picked the correct gift! A small victory after his roaring entrance into the quiet space. However, satisfaction hit a wall when Willow's hands began moving. There was a slight concern in Warren's expression as he watched the hand motions carefully. Sign language was something Warren was very gradually picking up on to respect his colleague, but he was a fledgling with it. The man's golden eyes were fixated on the movements, failing to notice any expression or tonal shifts; he already struggled to figure out the words.

The man paused afterward, gears turning in his head as he tried to piece everything together... Something about giving kids? A fright maybe?

"You... mean scaring them?" Warren began, attempting to let it click. "Oh... oh! You mean with the arm!"

Briefly, the loudness returned, however, the metalwork teacher caught onto his volume for once and flinched. He gave the librarian another, quick, apologetic smile with another awkward, embarrassed laugh.

"Eh... it teaches them best... Having a walking example of why you should be careful tends to help," Warren explained. "Well... that and those workplace safety videos... But, they get a little boring or are too... I don't know the word for it, but almost... spoonfed."

The curriculum for metalwork resulted in the endless watching of workplace safety videos... and a majority felt rinse and repeat. Sometimes it felt like the narrator was always the same, clear-toned male voice preaching the same, familiar safety essentials. While Warren had to watch a few every year, he left most to any substitute who could not run the workshop in his absence. It broke up the monotony of the relearning and teaching of safety protocols.

Willow waved his concerned way with an amused smile, ”Trust me, your not the worst.” He spoke and signed with a small chuckle. He had plenty of kids that came around like loud demons. Some tried to sneak in loud snacks, drinks and some tried to bring in music - knowing Willow might not be able to hear it. Joke was on them though, he could hear them with his aids or if he had Dunkin’ with him. Hopefully, he could get the documents together soon to bring him into the school. Heaven knew it was difficult without his pup. ”Ah, yes, I meant your arm.” Right, he had forgotten for a moment that Warren was still a beginner in sign. He needed to be a bit slower with his motions. He made no mention of the raised volume for Warren capped it quickly. ”Well, I can't argue on the method, especially if its been working for you.” Especially, if it made the kids actually listen to him. Man, Willow would love to have something to scare the kids into listening to him rather then trying their luck. Maybe, one day he will have something to have fun with as well! |

A brightness entered Warren’s expression at being told somehow, he was not the worst offender; and additionally, the spoken worlds lined up with the signs. A small victory that planted a smile on his lips. Years of being scolded immediately as he entered the library, and despite being a long-term offender, he was not the worst. His lack of volume awareness proved itself regularly, but he managed to keep the librarian appeased with his lacklustre attempts at volume maintenance.

Then again, he was clueless to the antics teenagers managed to pull over Willow on the daily. Regardless of age, children were sneaky, discovering new and inventive ways to sneak through cracks or loops in rules. The slowed signs were an opportunity to learn, his eyes carefully observing and nodding in understanding… Learning more sign language was a worthwhile investment both for hearing impaired students and to communicate with Willow… Especially given his loudness occasionally overwhelmed the poor librarian.

For a brief moment, the librarian wasn't quite certain if he had understood the man correctly. His head tilted slightly towards the right in though, brows coming together. Did he, did he just suggest - in all sense of the word - monster books? This idea was so comical to the younger man that he couldnt help himself. He laughed, it was a short one but one full of entertainment at the idea. Willow shook his head and snickered for a moment longer. Sweet Warren with his darling ideas. "Now, that is most certainly an idea, though I am afraid most of the older students wouldn't fall for it."He said verbally with his hands following suit. However, this idea of scaring the children into listening was certainly leading somewhere. Willow paused at the end of his sentence thinking on this for a moment more. "However, once Dunkin gets approved to be on school grounds, he maybe able to keep them in line."Because who wouldn't be terrified of a swaggy and sweet canine of over a hundred pounds. |

Man-eating books were not exactly the most realistic suggestion Warren could conjure for keeping misbehaving students in line. Brainstorming was important to remove unreasonable ideas from the repertoire... The notion of child-gobbling books was foolish enough to prompt a laugh from the librarian. While short, mirth was evident in the tone. A bad idea that sparked amusement still managed to maintain the smile across Warren's expression. Bringing Willow some additional joy after his clamorous entrance into the library was the least he could manage. The shaking made it clear the idea would not be used.

A laugh slipped between Warren's lips when Willow mentioned with sign and speech that the idea would not work on the older kids... Teenagers were smart and not easily fooled by campfire horror stories.

"Yeah, I guess not," Warren managed to laugh out. "They probably wouldn't even be impressed."

The mention of an alternative solution brought brows moving upwards curiously. There was a plan cooking in the librarian's mind and as someone who used unique methods of keeping children in line, Warren was interested. However, admittedly, Warren was more concerned with the mention of Dunkin' who made the metalworking teacher even more curious.

"Dunkin'?" Warren questioned softly, thinking for a moment. "Is... is he a support animal? What kind? He will be an honorary staff member after all!"

Already, Warren was planning a variety of possible treats he could fetch for whatever Dunkin' was. Even if unofficially, Dunkin' would be, in Warren's opinion, a member of staff! Once the approval came in, Dunkin' would deserve a proper welcome to Panacea Academy... and treats would not be a distraction from his important work for Willow. The librarian's safety and needs came before Warren's wishes to welcome the animal into the academy.

As amusing as it would be to terrify children with man eating books, it simply wouldn't do. The idea was amusing and kept stored away for Halloween. Perhaps, he could do something with that in the future for a little fun. Decorations never hurt no body and maybe he could stick them on the bookshelves. His thought peeled away from that as Warren questions on who and what Dunkin could be. Willow kept his soft smile as he explained, knowing that not everyone was aware of Dunkin as of yet. "Yes, he would be an honorary staff member. Dunkin is my service animal, he alerts me to sounds and the like." Now, for what he was, that made the man chuckle as he tired to think of the best way to describe his companion. "Dunkin, is ah, well he is a wolf but I think he might be a hybrid? I'm not too sure as I found him as a pup. Heh, he is a rather big boy -friendly though." Lord knew that beast took up quite of bit of room on his bed and almost half the sofa. He really needed to get Dunkin his own care and - oh - he would have to find him a nice dog bed to rest in under his desk. Hmm, or maybe he should just bring a few pillows and his favorite blanket. That might work best. "I think you might like him, though he is a bit mouthy, if you will." |

Curiosity sparked in Warren's eyes as he listened and watched intently as Willow explained who Dunkin' was. Thoughts of man-eating books drifted away as the large man appeared enamoured by the service animal he had yet to meet. The notion of having an animal in the school was intriguing, foreign and overall, exciting. It made sense Willow would have a furry helper considering noise would sometimes grow overwhelming to the librarian. Then as Willow explained what Dunkin' was, the metalworking teacher's mind was churning with possibilities on what treats to get for the wolf-dog.

At every word, Warren nodded, quiet and attentive to the explanation. There were a few things the large man knew about service animals, but his knowledge remained limited.

"I'm sure I will," he said happily. "Buuut, this does mean I will have to bring him a little welcoming treat... Maybe a bone? If he likes that? Or is he alright with dog treats? I will let you give it to him of course. Don't want to distract him from his job since your safety and well-being comes first of course... but he is staff, so... I argue he needs a treat too."

He knew the role of a working service animal was to fixate on the individual in need throughout their work hours. Which meant no pets nor cuddles while the vest remained strapped to their furry body. Treats were something Warren was less certain about, however, he could imagine them being in the similar vein of 'too distracting'. Thus as much as Warren may wish to personally give Dunkin the treat, he planned to hand it off to Willow.

The gears were turning in the shop teachers head. Willow could see them go into hyperdrive the very moment that spark set off within his eyes. Willow watched on in amusement and waited patiently for him to come to a conclusion, one that he was most certain would end on some kind of treat. He didn't have to wait long to see that his conclusion had been correct all along. Tattooed hands moved once more, "Thank you, Warren. Though, you are welcome to give him a treat yourself if you would like. But, only after his vest comes off." He gave a small smile to the older man once more. It didn't appear he would have to explain the reasonings for his request, Warren had all ready figured them out, much to Willow delight. He gave a nod of understanding and then paused a moment to consider what kind of treat would be acceptable. "Huh, I haven't actually give him a bone before. Though, he can have dog treats just fine. So, that would be all right to give him." He did give Dunkin scraps too sometimes but that wasn't often. He didn't want to get him into begging as that wouldn't go well if he was trying to eat in peace. "Really, I think he would like just about anything including the kitchen sink. Surprisingly, he isn't too picky on what he eats but he is on other things." The man sighed with a roll of the eyes. Dunkin was picking on his water and of course, the bathtub. Boy loved to lay in it for hours and whine until the water came on. Sometimes, he wondered if Dunkin was part husky with how some of his mannerisms were like. |

The metalworking teacher watched attentively to the signed words, curious about Dunkin' and what he was authorized to have... However, one thing immediately stuck out to Warren... Service animals have a set of "work regulations" when looking after the person they are servicing, but... he would be allowed to personally give Dunkin' his welcome gift. Naturally, when the vest was removed and he was considered off-duty, but regardless, there was a noticeable excitement in Warren. If the glint in his golden eyes failed to show it, the growing smile on his face made it obvious.

"Alright! Glad I can. But if he needs to work overtime when I bring it along, just let me know and you can give it to him on my behalf," Warren said, voice growing loud from excitement briefly.

A big wolf-dog brought about excitement for Warren. Where some individuals found themselves terrified of large canines, Warren wanted to give Dunkin' pets and a little love when appropriate. Thus, when the conversation was about treats, his mind rolled further into notions of what to get the service animal as a welcoming gift. Nonetheless, approval was important before Warren bought anything for Dunkin' given he was not the animal's owner. Even with an animal willing to devour anything without hesitation, the metalworking teacher wanted to avoid going overboard.

"Alright," he began, drifting off in thought. "I can send you pictures when I think of something if you want... Or... I could even get him one of those rawhide bones to chew on. That might be a good treat that would last a while."

There was a smile on Warren's face at his suggestion. Rawhide bones were a weighty treat, but something that would at least last for the wolf-dog. Furthermore, the ones designed for big dogs would potentially be perfect for Dunkin'. While he never considered a pet himself given the business of being a teen father, school and everything in between, he saw the endless toys and treats for dogs. Thus springboarding some of the few animal treats he could consider was a good idea.

Warren looked so thrilled to be able to offer a large wolf dog treats. Willow found this to be quite amusing and wondered if the same delight would remain when Dunkin got approval to enter school grounds. Dunkin was no small animal by any means and could be intimidating at first sight. He cluldnt even count the times someone had tried to get him removed from a store or declare him to be a danger. He could only hope that Warren wouldn't be bothered by Dunkin's size - or the kids for that matter. Willow offered the man a nod of understanding. If Dunkin was working longer then usual, he would let Warren know. Thiugh, he doubted that would be the case. He tried to give Dunkin breaks, as well as letting him loss often as soon as they got home. Speaking of which, he should take him out for a walk when he got home or to the dog park at least. He nodded again, "You can send me images if you want, but I think whatever you'll get would be fine. So long as it's for a big dog." And a very big dog at that. Pocketing his own sweets, he turned to look back at the table he was sorting. Most of the books had been put away but a few remained. he returned to his work, picking up the novels and as he did so, he spoke. "Hopefully, I'll be allowed to bring him up next week." If everything went smoothly that is to say. "We could stop by your class room at lunch or the end of the day for you to meet him." |
