[attr="class","dibody"] Tick. Tick. Tick. Adara's eyes were intently focused on the clock, waiting for her last block of the day, creative writing, to finally be over. She didn't dislike the class, in fact she found it to be fun, but she was itching to get out of there. The teacher was speaking, but frankly Adara was too distracted to truly pick up on what they were saying. The girl was fidgeting with the spinner ring on her finger, trying not to bounce in her seat too much. Thankfully, only another minute passed before her teacher said that they were dismissed, and Adara jumped out of her seat nearly before the words left her teacher's mouth.
She gathered her stuff together, haphazardly shoving her notebooks into her gym bag in a rush. She was going to head straight to track early and get some extra practice in before everyone else got there. The tutoring block is nice and all, but she'd much rather use that time to her advantage. They finally got some new blood in this year, and the girl was super excited to see how they stacked up.
Adara was the first one out of the door, and she rushed down the hallway, deftly maneuvering around everyone flooding out of their classrooms. A voice boomed out from behind her, a familiar teacher calling out; "OI! NO RUNNING IN THE HALLS." But she didn't even bother to give them a backwards glance, she was already gone. She skidded around a corner, then rushed down the stairs.Adara burst through the doors to the academic building, out into the crisp autumn air, a wide grin spread over her face. Her body was screaming for some activity after a long day of classes, and she made a break for the athletic fields. It only took a few minutes of brisk walking before she made it to the girls locker room. Humming to herself, setting her bag down on the bench in front of her locker before. She rummaged through the bag and pulled out her work out clothes before heading into one of the changing stalls. She heard the doors to the room open, and the voices of some girls chatting filled the room. They were talking about all manner of things, but mostly were dissing their classmates and people who they disliked. Adara rolled her eyes, but tried to focus on her own thoughts best she could. However, she heard her name dropped by a girl with a shrill, scratchy voice, followed by a few malicious laughs. " You know that Adara girl? Laugh like a donkey, only thinks about track? Well I heard one of the guys on the track team saying she was SUUUUUPER annoying." They all giggled in unison. " He said she was always being super loud and trying to be the center of attention." Another girl piped in, her voice high and nasally. " It's kind of embarrassing for her you know. The only thing she's good at is track. She's got nothing else going for her. I feel bad for her." Her bag was sitting right there on the bench, they knew she was in there. "Assholes." She pulled her shirt down over her head before throwing open the curtain to the changing room. "You know, if you're going to talk shit about someone, at least be polite enough do it in private. That's what I do." Her normally chipper voice was ice cold, and her crimson eyes were narrowed into a glare. As fast as her face changed, it reverted back to her signature smile, "I'd hate for you to overhear me saying you look like a fish that's been out of water too long." She let out a little giggle before storming out of the room, angrily grabbing her bag off the bench. Some peoples f*cking kids. Normally, rumors didn't get under Adara's skin, even if they were a little hurtful. She was well aware that her loud, brash personality didn't mesh with everyone, and she's heard most of what they had said before. Although at least the last few times it was to her face. The main thing that got to her was that it was something that had come from a team member, which made it especially hurtful."Wait...." They said they heard that from one of the guys on the track team, but there were only a few, all of whom Adara considered very good friends. Actually, she was incredibly close with all of her teammates. However.... there was a new guy who just joined. Adara's jaw tightened, it must've been him.
Adara stormed over to the track field, starting her warm-ups with a furrowed brow. Her gaze was locked onto the men's locker room, waiting for the man in question to peek out on the horizon. People filed out, but it wasn't until practice was about to begin that she saw him. She ran up to him, stopping him before he even set a foot on track.
" Hey, Gael right? I think we need to talk, can you follow me for a sec?" She worked hard to make sure her face showed no particular emotion, but she wasn't able to keep it from reaching her eyes. |

[attr="class","gaelpostbg"] [attr="class","gaelpost"] Goddamn f**king clothes. Fingers decked out in silver rings yanked the zipper of his red tracksuit jacket up to his collar, a scowl settling onto his face. Inside one of the guy’s changing rooms, he twisted and stretched, tugging at his under-clothes until they stopped crushing his ribcage. Bursting out through the door, slinging his gym bag over one shoulder, he walked back into the locker room where a few other teammates were still getting dressed. “Oi, well if it isn’t Gael!” One called out with a nasty smirk—the kind he wanted to punch right off his face. Gael made a big show of stopping to size up the others. “I heard you hit a new personal best yesterday.” The f**kers grin was too wide, too smug. Gael cocked his head. “Oh yeah?” What f**king best? He scoffed, his thoughts wandering to the rancid smell after practice. Think of the money. Of the house. He reminded himself, like some damn mantra he chanted to get him through the day. “Yeah, must’ve been tough—keeping up with the jogging group for the first time!” Whatever-His-Name-Was threw his head back and laughed, his two cronies joining in, howling like idiots. Oh, right, he was supposed to be in on this bullshit guy humor, wasn’t he? “Is that so?” He grinned, stalking forward, grabbing a towel, and snapping it against the guy with a sharp crack. “That’s f**king hilarious, coming from the guy who thinks sprinting means running to the snack table between sets.”F**k you. He thought as he walked off, flipping them off on his way out. The joke was on him, apparently, because good ol’ Gael seemed to be the topic of the day. Some chick he barely recognized, burgundy hair in a ponytail, came rushing over. “Hey, Gael right? I think we need to talk, can you follow me for a sec?” Nothing he did at this school mattered. None of it made any difference. All he cared about were those rainbow-colored dollar bills waiting for him after graduation next year. But, sure, he’d humor the girl. “Why not?” He drawled, fighting the urge to roll his eyes as he followed her away from the track and their teammates. He was in full rage mode, but with two years to get through, he’d have to get his pretty little act together. Lest dear old Daddy or the Wicked Witch of the West be called in. Hmm. Chin up then, better put on a smile. Notes: Combatative boy meets combatative girl, Chaos ensues
| [attr="class","dibody"] The flash of some irritation on Gael's face only seemed to confirm Adara's suspicions. Her lips pursed together tightly as she walked past him, but she was able to smooth her features over once more. It's one thing to complain to your buddies in private, fine, whatever, everyone vents. However, to say someone is annoying and constantly striving to be the center of attention in front of others is nearly as bad as purposefully spreading rumors around. Adara would like to believe someone on the team wouldn't do that on purpose, but the only thing she had to go off of was the things she had heard about Gael. Brash, combative, with a smart mouth. She tried not to take these kinds of things at face value, best she could at least, but it becomes hard when brimming with emotion.
Adara led him to the side of the building with the locker rooms, ducking behind to get out of sight before spinning around on her heels. She faced him, and made a distinct effort to stare straight into his cinnamon colored eyes. They were about the same height, so thankfully she didn't have to contend with looking up at him. It's much easier to be taken seriously when you're on even ground.
"I just overheard some, to put it lightly, unsavory things about myself. That was said by-" Adara raises her fingers up, putting her words in air quotes; "-some guy on the track team." Adara's crimson eyes burned with intensity. Her expression, once carefully controlled, burst into real, deep emotion. She seemed pained, hurt, and she started speaking without even giving him a break in-between.
"Now, I've known everyone else on this team for the past year AT LEAST. Some of them I've known my whole time at this school. So when I hear-" air quotes again; "'some guy on the track team.' I can't help but assume it's you they've heard it from. You're the only one I don't know." She has to break eye contact for a second, a quick exhale of air as she feels burning in the corner of her eyes. Then she faces him again. " If you think I'm annoying? Fine. Think I'm on track to be the center of attention? Fine." " You don't have to like me. You're welcome to hate me if you want." She shrugs, shaking her head slightly, " but we're a team, even if we compete in different categories. At least keep it to yourself in the future, or at least not say shit like that in front of God and everyone. If not for my sake, then for the sake of our cohesiveness." Adara pauses for just a second, surprisingly pensive. " I get enough shit as it is, and I don't need it coming from my teammates too. Okay?". |

[attr="class","gaelpostbg"] [attr="class","gaelpost"]With his hands shoved into the front pockets of his jacket, Gael trailed the girl around the side of the building, away from the curious eyes of the track team and teachers. Memories of similar incidents flashed through his mind, prompting a wicked, unsettling grin as he leaned his shoulder against the wall, musing over the harmlessness of females in this lifetime. Now, he just had to deal with the bigger ones. Out of the pot and into the frying pan, as they say. Ponytail girl spun around to face him, glaring daggers into his retinas. “I just overheard some, to put it lightly, unsavory things about myself. That was said by,”—she air-quoted—,“some guy on the track team.” The way she looked at him, caught somewhere between fury and distress, made it unclear whether she was accusing him or was seeking him out to spill her heart out. Either way, he didn’t really give a shit. “Now, I’ve known everyone else on this team for the past year, AT LEAST.” Confronting him as the villain, it was. He folded his arms across his chest, giving her a dubious look as she went on about her unbreakable bonds with her frat-team and how he was the black sheep among the herd. “If you think I’m annoying? Fine. Think I’m on track to be the center of attention? Fine. You don’t—,” She got about that far before he simply just covered her mouth to shut her up. “I’ll stop you here,” He interrupted, fingers gripping her cheeks tightly. “It wasn’t me, alright? Either you got a bad source, or one of your so-called besties isn’t so bestie after all.”Releasing her, he shook the perspiration from his hand. [attr="class","dibody"]Crimson eyes grew wide as Gael put his hand over Adara's mouth, his fingers digging tightly into her cheeks. "This f*king guy." Her face flushed bright red, and he was lucky he took her by surprise. Just as he pulled his hand away, she snapped her teeth together to bite him. Unfortunately, she missed, though she made it in time to swat his hand away. Now she was really pissed off. God, she wanted to hit him, but something told her that was a fight she would lose. "Don’t you ever touch me like that again." Adara's voice was low, her fists clenched at her sides, so tight she could feel the pain of her fingernails digging into her palms."Breathe, Adara. Breathe." She released the tension in her hands, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. When she opened her eyes again, the anger was replaced with a fierce determination. "Fine." Her voice was sharp, definitive, "if it wasn't you, let's clear it up then. If you're innocent, you've got nothing to worry about. I'll apologize, profusely, and I'll do a favor for you in the future, no questions asked." "So, how about this?" Adara crossed her arms over her chest. "We finish practice. I leave a little early to go hide out somewhere, and you can see if you can get the other boys to say something. If they do, then I'll handle them. If not -well" She pauses, "I guess we'll just have to see." "You up for that? Or do you have a better idea?" Adara did her best to make it sound like a challenge, something she hoped he wouldn't be able to turn down. She never could. |

[attr="class","gaelpostbg"] [attr="class","gaelpost"]Ponytail made a show of trying to bite him, shoving his hand away as her face turned the same shade of red as her hair. “Don’t you ever touch me like that again,” She seethed, looking about two seconds from socking him one. Gael considered pointing out the fact that she’d been the one to drag him over here to go on a spiel about his alleged crimes, but honestly, he didn’t care enough to waste his breath. The girl managed to reign in her temper and apparently came up with Plan B. “If it wasn’t you, let’s clear it up then.” She quickly launged into a plan—with him involved, of course—to prove his innocence, which involved him pulling a fast one over her so-called besties. “We finish practice, I leave a little early—to go hide somewhere,” Ponytail practically gleamed with excitement over her own concocted scheme. “And you can see if you can get the other boys to say something.” Gael straight up laughed at this girl’s naïve assumption that he gave a rat’s ass about proving his innocence. Still, he wasn’t opposed to a little extra fun. He’d been so f**ked up recently, and what better way to blow off a little steam? The poor girl had no idea what kind of trouble she was inviting in. “Sounds like a plan, Ponytail.” He replied with a grin that didn’t quite reach his eyes—more sinister than amused, like a guy with almost nothing left to lose. | [attr="class","dibody"] Adara nodded and pushed past him with a look of resolve on her face. Though she turned for a second, sparing a glance behind her. "My name is Adara, by the way." She jogged back to the track and got in line with the other girls to start practice for real. The hour went by quickly, with Adara trying not to spare too many glances in Gael's direction. She was trying to keep her cool the best that she could. Her mind was unfocused throughout practice, and she could feel her body not responding the way it usually did. "It really didn’t seem like it was him..." The thought made her feel a little guilty about confronting him so aggressively. However, she needed to know who it was to nip it in the bud. Especially now that she knew it was a team member— there was no way she’d be able to let it go. Toward the end of practice, she caught Gael's eye and motioned her head toward the locker rooms. Discreetly, she slipped up to the coach, whispering to them quickly. "I think I gotta leave early, I'm not feeling too good..." The coach nodded, giving Adara a pat on the back, and sends her off.
Adara turned, giving one final look at Gael before going to the locker rooms. Nobody else was around, the hallways lackluster and incredibly empty. Adara snuck around corners until she got to the door of the boys locker room, taking great pains to make sure her shoes didn't squeak all over the floors. it SHOULD only be track letting out over here.... hopefully. The girl took a deep breath, her heart in her throat, before opening the door and speaking in the lowest voice she could possibly manage. "Uh, hey? Anyone else in here?" No response. A sigh of relief escapes Adara's lips before she slips through the door, looking around for a suitable hiding spot. There are bags, loose and half open, covering the benches, clothes strewn about. "Jeez, boys are messy...." She spots an empty locker, no bag or gear in front of it, and slips in, pulling the latch tight. "Oh my god, this is so, so stupid." Adara's heart pounds in her ears, and she waits. |

[attr="class","gaelpostbg"] [attr="class","gaelpost"]“My name is Adara, by the way.” Ponytail introduced herself, sparing him a last glance before making determined strides back onto the track field. Gael leaned against the side of the building, hands shoved in his pockets, watching her retreat. The kid was really too ignorant, too confident for her own good, but he figured he’d be fixing that soon enough. Gael Honora wasn’t exactly winning any popularity contest with the boys on the team. Ponytail had nailed it—he was the black sheep of the group, and long-distance running hardly required him to take one for the team. Toward the end of practice, he felt Ponytail’s crimson eyes boring a hole into his thick skull, silently demanding he give her the attention she was apparently craving. He finally met her gaze, a slow smile spreading across his face. And there it was again—that fire of determination blazing across her expression. She tilted her head toward the locker rooms, a subtle signal of where she’d chosen this little game to go down. Gael outright laughed at the girl’s guts. Damn, she reminded him a little of himself, if he hadn’t been f**ked over in every which way in life. But rather than finding it endearing, he found it to be a slow, simmering irritant. In fact, it made him want to break her in more ways than one. He watched as Adara darted toward the locker rooms, clearly confident in her own plan. After a minute, his lazy form followed. Sure enough, Miss Innocent slipped right into the boys’ side, thinking herself clever, hiding out in the lion’s den. Gael followed, hanging back just enough to watch where she chose to tuck herself away to. Well, this was bound to get interesting. Because, you see, Ponytail had made the mistake of trusting him—Gael Honora, the self-centered prick who’d never found a reason to look out for anyone but himself. As long as he could keep living his cushy, easy lifestyle, he was content to drag everyone else down with his own sinking ship. Daddy’s little boy to the bitter end. As practice came to its end, Gael loitered at the entrance to the boy’s locker room, leaning against the wall with a casual, almost bored look. Panacea’s small track team poured in, sweaty and panting, their conversations loud. A couple of them stopped short, surprised to find him standing there, leaning against the doorframe like he’d been waiting for something—or someone. “ Woah, thought you ditched us, man!” One of them joked with a grin. Another slapped him on the back as they passed. He’d get him back another time. Gael shrugged, pushing away from the wall to follow them inside. “Just needed a break from all your ugly faces,” He replied dryly, making his way toward the benches where the group had gathered. Some tossed their shirts aside, their sweat-drenched hair plastered to their forehead. Gael’s gaze flickered across the room, catching the faint hint of movement from one of the empty lockers. He knew exactly where she was hiding, waiting to catch every word. And so, he chose the locker right beside hers, leaning against it with his arms crossed, his gaze slowly drifting over the guys on the team until the room’s energy began to shift. Their lively chatter died down, a few of them trading curious glances. “Alright, man, what’s up?” Derek, the self-declared captain, broke the silence. Gael’s fingers drummed lazily against his arm, a dark grin spreading across his features. “I’ve got a little announcement for all of you.”They looked at each other, a few eyebrows raised. “An announcement?” One laughed, “What is this, a team meeting?” Gael hummed, playing up the moment. “Sort of. Except, I’m not the one who called it.”“Oh yeah? Then who?” He let the question hang in the air, wondering if the tension was making Ponytail squirm. What was his play? Was he going to blow her cover? Had she made a mistake in trusting him? “A little birdie told me one of you fine boys have been running your mouth behind their back, talking shit about them.” His grin widened as he caught a few expressions shifting from amusement to mild unease. He pushed off the locker, taking a few steps to the side. “And that little birdie? Turns out they’re hiding in here right now, hoping to find out which one of you done f**ked up.”[googlefont="Raleway"][googlefont="Chakra Petch"][newclass=".gaelpostbg"]background-size:contain;[/newclass][newclass=".gaelpost b"]color:black;[/newclass][newclass=".gaelpost i"]color:#b17b44;[/newclass]

Notes: AAAAAAAAAA
| [attr="class","dibody"] Sounds of sneakers on the floor and the loud laughter of boys filled the air, and Adara shifted slightly. It was hot— although that could've just been her nerves — and she could feel sweat dripping onto her brow. Just outside of the locker she heard shuffling, before a flash of blonde hair and narrowed red eyes appeared, disappearing just as quickly. Gael knew where she was, and for some reason the thought made her anxious.
Voices quieted down as the boy posted up next to Adara, and her whole body became tense. Something felt.... off. The girl's heart lodged itself in her throat, and waves of sound rushed her ears as he began to speak. At the talk of a team meeting, she felt her ears start to burn red. “ Sort of. Except, I’m not the one who called it.” “Oh yeah? Then who?” Adara's stomach dropped, the question hanging thick in the air, and she tried to stay as calm as she could. Her mind raced through dozens of different resolutions, but honestly? She was kind of shit out of luck here. Desperately she tried to hold on to something, some idea, some plan, but she was coming up blank. " And that little birdie? Turns out they’re hiding in here right now-" "F*ck." Man, she really messed this all up. Of course he would do this, why did she possibly think this would go any other way? " God, Adara, you're so, so dumb." Anxiety ate Adara up from the inside as he finished speaking, but she tried to fight off the stinging at the corner of her eyes. She can cry to Penelope Gray about it later, for now she had to figure out how to get out of this while maintaining her dignity.
There was a murmur that erupted throughout the room, the boys whispering amongst themselves, before quickly settling down. Adara heard a voice (Luke, maybe?) laugh, although it was a much crueler sound than she had ever heard him make. In fact it was quite jarring, and a part of her flinched in response. Oh, this could get very scary. A chill ran down the girl's spine at the thought, and quietly she hit the record button on her phone, just in case.
"Well, does little birdie wanna come out or what?" The words were followed by the sound of a locker door slamming open, rattling the wall. Adara steeled herself, controlling her face and preparing herself for whatever the hell was about to happen. She heard heavy footsteps, followed by another locker slamming open, and another one. The steps got closer and closer, before meeting toe to toe with Gael, one locker away from hers. "Or are you just makin' shit up for fun?" She'd never heard Luke's voice like that, dripping with malice and venom.

[attr="class","gaelpostbg"] [attr="class","gaelpost"]Gael leaned back, letting the scene unfold as Derek, Leo, and Ryan exchanged shocked glances, their chatter full of disbelief. But it was Luke who dragged everyone’s attention. Forcing a laugh, Luke stood from the bench and began yanking open locker doors, one by one. “Well, does little birdie wanna come out or what?” The kid had guilty practically written across his face. “Or are you makin’ shit up for fun?” Gael raised an eyebrow as Luke continued to rattle the lockers, each slam echoing off the walls like a gunshot. The expressions on the other three boys shifted from confusion to caution as Luke’s outburst escalated. Derek exchanged a quick look with Leo, both clearly confused by Luke’s intensity. Ryan, the youngest, shuffled uneasily on his feet, glancing between Luke and Gael, as though pleading for him to step in. However, Derek beat him to it. “Hey, Luke, chill out, man.” His voice was a mix of nervous laughter and genuine concern. “Gael’s just messing around with us.” Gael propped himself against one of the low equipment drawers, his expression calm, almost bored, as he watched things unfold. Luke wasn’t having it, slamming another locker shut with a bang. “If she’s in here accusing people, then she better show her face.” His gaze darted to Gael, uncertainty flashing briefly. “Is she really in here, Gael, or are you just trying to stir shit up?” Gael met Luke’s gaze with an arched brow. “Oh, she’s definitely in here. But if you’ve got nothing to hide, why you getting all worked up, bestie?”Ryan cleared his throat, trying to diffuse the tension. “C’mon, man, maybe she heard wrong, okay? No need to go nuclear over it. We all talk sometimes.” [googlefont="Raleway"][googlefont="Chakra Petch"][newclass=".gaelpostbg"]background-size:contain;[/newclass][newclass=".gaelpost b"]color:black;[/newclass][newclass=".gaelpost i"]color:#b17b44;[/newclass]

| [attr="class","dibody"] The sound of her fellow team members at least trying to get Luke to relax made Adara let out a small breath of relief. She knew it wasn't all of them, or at least, all of them who would spread it around. But Luke? That hurt. He'd always acted like they were such good friends. Hell, they had gone to karaoke together with some of their track mates. To see he had this kind of side to him was disheartening and honestly... concerning. There really shouldn't be a place for this on the team, and Adara had half a mind to talk to the coach about it. Though first she had her own choice words to dish out. "If she’s in here accusing people, then she better show her face." Luke spat out, and Adara took a deep breath, her fists balling up next to her sides.
"You know what? He's right," and Adara wasn't one to run from a fight. The girl wiped her eyes, making sure her face was free of any weakness, and promptly kicked the door of the locker open. She hopped out, turning to face the room with fire in her eyes. It was rare for Adara to be truly, wholly, angry. Her gaze shot to Gael first, "I'll deal with that later," she thought as her eyes scanned the rest of the room.
Ryan looked the most surprised, but she could see Derek just let out a sigh, as if he was expecting this. Adara's heart raced, her mind trying to figure out the best thing to say, but Luke beat her to the punch. "Oh, you've got to be shittin' me." Luke let out another laugh, "what do you possibly have to cry about, Addie?" The girl cringed at the use of her nickname, her crimson eyes narrowing. That was only reserved for friends, and Luke definitely was no longer any friend of hers. " Well, since I'm always super loud and trying to be the center of attention. I figured I'd take it up a notch." She stepped up to him, squaring her shoulders and desperately trying to keep a brave face. Luke was much taller than her, but she had to put faith in the other boys on the team to step in if anything crazy happened- save Gael, of course. " You know, really live up to your view of me." "Addie," another scoff leave his lips, "you're crossing the line here. Why do you need to make everything into such a big f*cking deal? Maybe you should switch from track to theater," Luke shoots a look around the room, his eyes settling on Gael, "right?" |

[attr="class","gaelpostbg"] [attr="class","gaelpost"]Not even a second passed before Ponytail burst from her hiding spot, the metal door crashing into the neighboring locker with a loud clang, grabbing everyone’s attention. She stormed out like a firestorm, eyes blazing. Gael leaned back against the desk, arms crossed, watching the scene with a detached amusement. Poor thing, she’d trusted the wrong guy—and now she was livid. Her eyes flashed with vengeance as they landed on him, but he simply tilted his head, having done exactly what she’d asked for in the first place. Luke’s reaction was a mix of mockery and anger. “Oh, you’ve got to be shittin’ me. What do you possibly have to cry about, Addie?” He was pushing his luck, but Gael knew nothing serious would come of it. The boys had each other’s backs—especially when it was something as petty as a girl’s hurt feelings. Gael’s thoughts turned dark for a moment, memories flashing behind his gaze, but he shrugged off the itch. Life wasn’t always so cruel, especially not for Gael. No, the worst thing to happen to good ol’ Gael was a scuff on his perfectly polished shoes. “Well, since I’m always super loud and trying to be the center of attention. I figured I’d take it up a notch!” Ponytail seethed, her voice laced with sarcasm. She stepped right into Skywalker’s space, her head barely reaching his chest. “You know, really live up to your view of me.” Skywalker scoffed. “Addie, you’re crossing the line here. Why do you need to make everything such a big f**king deal?” He spread his arms in mock exasperation. “Maybe you should switch from track to theater, right?” He cast a glance around the room, his gaze landing on Gael, expecting him to chim in. But Gael wasn’t interested in playing along. In a slow motion, he pushed off the desk, grabbed his bag, and slung it over his shoulder. As he strolled past, he spared the two a brief glance. “I’m not here to make friends,” He said lazily, locking eyes with Ponytail. “And I’m not here to prove my innocence.” With a pointed look, he walked out of the locker room without another word. | [attr="class","dibody"] "Hey, wait-" Gael walked out the locker room before Adara could get a word out, and she let out a small huff of frustration. She turned her head to watch him leave, before facing Luke. "Whatever, I'll deal with this first." At least Gael didn't fully feed into it. Just another example of him defying her expectations.
"Well, if I'm better suited to theater, Luke, where does that put you, hm? Last I checked you could barely get out of the top ten." Adara's voice cut through the room with a pointed sharpness, masking the loud beating of her heart. "If you think about it, it's kind of pathetic. Isn't it?" She let out a laugh- cutting and completely devoid of any joy.
Immediately, she knew she had pushed it to far.
Luke lunged towards her, and Adara jumped back with a little shout. The girl's heart raced as she scurried away. Hands latched onto his shoulder to hold him back, some of the boys shouting over him. "F*ck you, Adara." he hissed, "and we'll see what the coach has to say about you breaking into the boys locker room, for what? To confront us about your hurt little feelings?" He scoffs, shaking his head. "Grow up. Maybe if you weren't so f*cking annoying all the time people wouldn't talk about you."
Adara’s eyes narrowed, before her face broke into a large grin. The change in expression seemed to take all of the boys aback. Without a word, she pulled her phone from her pocket. She held it up to reveal her app that was still recording.
"Sure, go ahead! Maybe I'll get a slap on the wrist. But let's be real. Who do you think Coach is going to care more about? One of the most consistent scorers on the team. Or a guy who can't even beat her in a race?" Luke's face paled, and he roughly shook off the other boys holding him back. He just let out another scoff, shaking his head and turning his back to her. Adara felt a small bit of satisfaction rise up, and for the first time actually felt like she was able to breathe.
Adara turned to face the rest of the room, shaking her head. "Look, talk shit about me all you want but unless you can put it out on track, don't do spread it around the whole school." She made a pointed glance to a few of the sophomore boys in the back, and they sheepishly looked away.
"So disappointing." Adara muttered as she spun on her heel, and stormed off. The room erupted into conversation behind her, but she just slammed the door closed to block it out. The hallways were now starting to fill in, but she started running through the building regardless. She burst outside just as tears pricked the corners of her eyes. She found a spot, hidden away from everything, and crouched down. All the emotion hit her like a truck all at once, and finally she allowed herself to cry. "So, so disappointing..." she thought to herself for a final time. |
