"Argh! And you know what he said?" the teen exclaimed as his arms get thrown into the air to add enthusiasm. He proceeded to mock the tone of voice, "'I want copies of your notes and my homework done from now on. That’s the price for your notebook.' Like, who does he think he is?!" both hands are then brought to his lap where he sat cross legged. It'd been a long while since he visited Cyrus, and to do so just to vent already made Caleb feel like a jerk. But alas, throughout the years growing up, Caleb couldn't think of a better person to talk to. [break][break]
The past had always been something the teen wanted to leave behind, but try as he might, there just wasn't any escape from prior mistakes. Thus, with a droop of his shoulders, Caleb sighed out and shifted on Cyrus' bed. He felt rather thankful his childhood friend got enrolled into the same academy. It made things a lot easier to deal with, after all. [break][break]
However, the things that continued to bob and bounce within the confines of his skull weren't necessarily easy to cope with, especially the last portion of the events. Ones, of which, he'd come to regret afterwards. For now, Caleb simply mumbled to his friend, "And.. Johnny pretty much told me not to talk to him about my 'gay stuff'. Whatever that means." he pouted in defeat. [break][break]
Fingers then moved over towards his light gray colored hoodie he'd strapped on before he left his dorm in a bit of a hurry, along with his key and phone securely tucked within the jacket's pocket. He sighed, then rubbed at his cheek for a few moments. "I just.. wanted to make a friend. But it's just the same as our old school." Caleb furrowed his brows momentarily as he mused with his clothes. This being a tick he picked up along the way whenever he felt anxious. [break][break]
"Do you think.." he licked his dried lips, allowing the pause to momentarily settle before he continued, "..do you think he'll start talking about me like.. the others did before?" he really didn't want to pin something like that on Johnny, but who could blame him? There had been so many things that transpired in both Cyrus' and Caleb's younger years that some of them were better left unsaid. [break][break]
Now, well.. those details started to rear their heads in Caleb's direction and fed those intrusive thoughts that never quite seemed to enjoy leaving him in peace for long.

Cyrus hadn't minded that Caleb had not seen him in a good while. He had missed him but knew they both had become busy with school. He at least, did see him at work when their hours aligned perfectly. Those days he often looked forward too as they were the most fun. So, when Caleb had come in search of him, he welcomed the other with open arms.
Cyrus had taken to laying across his bed, fiddling the ends of Caleb's hoodie as listened to the rant. To him, it seemed like he needed to find his best friend a new sketch book that locked and wouldn't let pictures fall out. People also couldn't be nosey little bitches and take a peek inside. But now that someone had he wasn't sure what to do on that matter. Perhaps, he could find a loophole somewhere...or make one.
Once Caleb had spilled his guts, Cyrus would set upright and pull Caleb by the waist to sit on his lap. Cyrus promptly rested his chin on the others head. "Three things." He started once Caleb allowed him to speak. "He never clarified the homework had to be correct, so why not have a little fun pay back?" Which might not be in the cards but it felt good to say. The other unspoken option remained between the pair on that matter.
At Johnny's mere name, he felt his eyes roll so far back into his head he looked practically undead. "Only dicks and closets say that shit. So, fuck Johnny and if he starts talking shit then he's going to eat shit." He spoke with such confidence on the matter while he snuggled his bestie close to him. "And lastly, don't worry about it. You'll make friends. It just takes time."

Caleb remained silent, inwardly thanking to whatever god that decided that his and Cyrus' paths should cross when they did. If it wasn't for his friend, well, the teen wasn't sure where he'd be. Granted, he did manage to drag himself from the dark pits that his father's passing left him with, but Cyrus had been the rock Caleb bumped into in the darkness. That bond only strengthened throughout the years as the two grew up, all the way to the point that they now attended the same prestigious school. Life always did seem to work in mysterious ways, and Caleb wasn't one to question that. [break][break]
Instead, he simply indulged in the affection and wisdom Cyrus had to offer him, even if they were similar in age. Of course, a different perspective always helped. He sighed softly as he moved his arms around his friend's neck and anchored down the same way he'd always done. "I know.." he mumbled, almost pitifully. Azure eyes peeked over his shoulder towards the dull wall not far from the duo as Caleb curled his fingers, now clutched onto the material that covered Cyrus' shoulders. [break][break]
"I just.. I really wanted to be friends with him. I don't know what it is, it just sort of feels like when you and I met. I just knew.. " he shrugged his shoulders, then leaned back to gain a better view of Cyrus' features. "There was just something underneath it all. Does that make sense? I'm probably not making any sense. I'm sorry. You're always looking out for me, Cy, and I mess up a lot. I hope you don't get tired of me, too. But then again, we've known each other for years.. so I don't think you will. But what if you do? Just talk to me if you ever do, okay? I don't want to stop being your friend. You're really important to me. You know that, right? I mean, I hope you do. You do, right?" he rambled on and simultaneously moved his hands in his attempt to make a point. Whatever point that might be? He wasn't sure, but he's definitely trying to make it.

"I know that you know, but I am still going to remind you." And as many times as he needed too. Caleb was special to Cyrus and he would be damned if someone made Caleb feel like an unworthy person. He would fight the next person that even put that idea into his head! Speaking of which, Cyrus did pull back slightly if only to study his dearest friends features. His eyes narrowed only a slightly as his hands moved from around his friend, to holding his face gently between to hands.
"I'll never get tired of you. You're important to me too and you better remember that. Sure, maybe annoyed sometimes but who doesn't get that way with their bestie sometimes? Who on earth put such silly ideas into your head?" He said this with concern and that concern remained even as he now promptly pinched Caleb's cheeks and pulled them. Not harm him in anyway but to make a point.
"However, I feel slightly offended that you compare me to Johnny just now. And why the hell do you wanna be friend with him so bad? He's a freaking jerk, Caleb." The pinching came to a end and now he rubbed the boys poor face he just barely abused.
"He isn't worth your time, Sweet Heart." His hands trailed back down Caleb's form to rest at his waist once more. He gave his friend quite the look of a 'You Got to Be Kidding Me' expression. "Give me at least three examples to why he is worth your time beyond just a feeling deep within your gut? Cause I wanna say what you are feeling, if your dinner."

If he were to look at the current position he took on his friend's lap right then he'd state that it's a little compromising. However, Caleb didn't see his relationship with Cyrus that way anymore. They were genuine, full fledged, and wholeheartedly platonic. He loved Cyrus to bits and pieces, despite having been turned down when they were younger. Things worked out for the better in the end anyway, especially when they can room together and bet the best friends they've always been. [break][break]
As Cyrus proceeded to comfort Caleb further, the teen blinked rapidly to catch the statements along the way until he ended up making a crooked expression to the moment his cheeks had been pinched. "Whuh——" brows furrowed slightly as he moved his own hands to cradle the ones on his cheeks. "Stahp." Caleb tried to articulate, but failed miserably. But the second the circumstances shifted once again, he found himself with his cheeks cradled instead. Slowly, he pressed his face into those comforting and warm hands that awaited him as his eyes drifted to a half close. [break][break]
"He's smart. When no one's looking, he has this.. really nice smile. I've seen him around campus with a group of guys, but every time I see him it's like he's forcing himself to be there. It's.. hard to explain." what caught Caleb off guard had been the offense he instilled in his friend, even though that hadn't been his intention at all. Caleb snickered softly and mirrored Cyrus' actions by cupping his cheeks in return, then rubbed his thumbs carefully against the curvature. [break][break]
"No one could ever replace you, Cy. I didn't mean to compare you, it's just that you used to be pretty.. distant? Yeah, think that's the best word to describe it. You don't let just anyone in, so it made me feel special when you opened up to me. Still does!" beamed a brightened smile and pressed his forehead onto theirs. He rubbed them together as those eyes met a close, all whilst he basked in the comfort Cyrus' body heat offered. "He just seems lonely, I guess. Maybe I'm wrong."

Brows slowly raised higher and higher as Caleb proceeded to list the ways he felt on the matter. Each reason making Cyrus' brows reach new heights to the point they may just take flight and leave his face all together.
Smart. Nice Smile. Forcing himself. Hm.
Cyrus made a little tisk sound but didn't interrupt his friend. He still wasn't too sure how he felt about being compared to Johnny, even if he didn't mean any harm by it. "Ah huh." He said after a moment. As much as he wanted to argue the point, he couldn't fight with Caleb on the matter. Especially, on the matter of distant. Growing up Cyrus had a thousand walls he put up on the daily and even now, he still had those walls. They had just mutated and changed to look different but only Caleb had the secret key to that hidden door to by pass the walls.
"All right, I won't argue with you about it. All I ask is that you don't put yourself in a bad situation. Lonely or not, I don't trust him in the slightest." He could hardly see Johnny as some lonely sad soul just wanting to make friends with this sweet little cream puff that he called his best friend.
Leaning into the touch of his friend, he pulled him into another hug. Though, not tight and would allow Caleb to pull back is he wished. "I know, Im not worried about being replaced and all of that. Im more so concerned of your gut leading you into trouble you can't get yourself out of, ya know? I know you mean well and want to be friends with everyone, but, not everyone is good for you."

Sat and listened. He knew. Deep down, Caleb knew that Cyrus had this air of wisdom ever since they were little, and it never really went away. So, instead of blindly following his intuition, he decided to trail behind Cyrus' words. Another sigh escaped the teen's vocals before he reached forth and wrapped his arms around his friend's neck. "I know.." he started, "you've always looked out for me. I don't mean to make things harder for you." Caleb's voice had turned into a mumble as he pressed his forehead onto Cyrus' temple. This is the place he felt most safe away from home. Sure, Caleb acknowledged the comfort his mother always provided, but the minute he set a single foot into the academy he'd been forced to face the reality of the adult world that started to revolve around him right at that second. With each passing moment, the teen knew that things could easily change with a blink of an eye, but the one thing he always wanted to keep had been his friendship with Cyrus. He finally loosened his grip on him and pulled back in order to regain a better view of his companion's features. A smile bloomed on Caleb's lips as he drummed his fingers across the other teen's shoulders. [break][break]
"I'll stay on guard. He's not that mean.. only a jerk at times, I guess. And I know," his hands raised in dismissal, "I know, that isn't an excuse. But I want to try. If nothing happens, then.. you get to have the privilege of holding it over my head and scream you told me so from the school rooftop. How about that?" A puff of air left the teenager as his eyes rolled back into his head once more, though this time not as dramatic as the previous time. ”You? Make things difficult for me? I don’t think you could even you tried.” Cyrus was too laid back ninety nine percent of the time. He rolled with the punches and often with Caleb’s whims. Nothing ever seemed to be too much for the teen but he did have his limits. The boy nuzzled his friend, even though he was still questioning Caleb’s idea of, well, a “good idea.” Johnny was a prick and an asshole. Cyrus could count the times he and that teen had a good and sweet meeting. Which, by the way had never happened and thus be unable to count the times. Johnny had a habit of getting under Cyrus’ skin so easily and the same could probably be said about him to Johnny. If he could just grab that dick’s face and rub it deep into the ground without getting into trouble - he would do it in a heartbeat. He would do it over and over and over and - well, you get the point. But now that Caleb wanted to be friends with this guy? That would make it harder to accomplish, at least in broad daylight. While holding Caleb, Cyrus flopped back onto his back, making the pair bounce lightly on the bed. ”Ah huh.” he said, unbelieving still. ”Well, good to know you admit that he, is in fact, a jerk. But, fine. Have it your way, Munchkin. You can try to befriend him but if he so much as looks at you funny once, I’m taking him out.” Fingers drummed against Caleb’s face for a moment. ”And just to be clear, I don’t mean out for a movie and dinner. I mean out as in he will be six feet under playing chess with the undertaker.” Cyrus said this with a huge grin on his face before pressing an innocent kiss to his friend’s temple, making it loud and overly dramatic. ”And that's a promise I plan to keep.” Because no one picked on Caleb. "And if I am right, I will be letting you know that I told you so - IN ALL the ways you hate." |

If Caleb had a cent for every single time he felt thankful he had Cyrus as his friend he'd be the richest man alive. Of course, he couldn't utter such a thing, for his words could never do his feelings justice. Instead, he simply bumped his forehead lightly against Cyrus' temple and listened to him speak. However, the moment he'd been called his little pet name, Caleb pulled back once more and inflated his cheeks. [break][break]
"I'm not as short as I used to b—" he gasped shortly as their bodies collided with the mattress below. A grumble soon left Caleb's vocals, then he pressed his face onto Cyrus' chest. More grumbles soon followed suit. He really didn't like the fact that everyone around him just had to grow faster than him. He still held hope, of course! Maybe one day he'll end up growing an inch or two. Hopefully. The final statement earned yet another glance from the blue eyed youth after he propped his chin gently on the center of his friend's chest to look up at him. [break][break]
"Mmhm. Hold it over my head until we're old and senile. You'll probably remember my name and my screw up, I'm sure." he smiled, then reached over to prod one of his cheeks in a playful manner. "But I promise I'll tell you if he gets too much." a single nod is offered as Caleb slowly sat upright. Hands set gently on his chest just before he patted the very same spot a couple of times. "So are we going to order some dinner or talk about my failed attempts at talking to guys? Because honestly, I don't really like the last option. I mean, I try my best, you know? The boy just grinned up at his best friend. Looking very much like a Cheshire cat about to have his birdie for lunch. He replied with a small snicker. ”Ah yes, growing a full inch and a half. Quite the growth spurt, Muchkin.” Maybe it was more like an inch but Cyrus was having his fun with Caleb. His grin only increased the more Caleb started mumbling to himself. This lead to feeding Cyrus inner gremlin. He put a can to his ear like one does when in need of someone to speak louder. ”OH, I'm sorry? Is that an agreement I heard? Who is the Short King, you? Why yes it is!"The smile remained even as Caleb changed the subject, earning him a poke in the stomach. ”There better not be a lead up to him being too much.” It was at that moment Caleb went off on his ramblings. It was like poking that belly was a reset button for Caleb. A brow rose once more as he tilted his head to the side. That sure was a lot of work vomit. ”That was quite the dump there. Man, do I really not count?” He was teasing with a pout. Knowing full well that ship sailed and never returned to the harbor, nor would it. Forever lost at sea! Putting his hands behind his head he made a little ho-hum. ”Well, if you're tired of talking about your boy problems, we can talk about mine, and yes, I think we need food. I'm starving and clearly you're getting hangry.” He mused. |

Could've probably passed as a train with all the huffing and puffing he offered to his friend and his antics. Of course, Caleb did eventually smile and presented a light tickle to Cyrus' sides. It almost felt like they'd reverted back to their younger years and they were simply enjoying each others company, talking about silly things, and just enjoying the moment as a whole. [break][break]
Caleb shifted then in order to sit upright again, mainly to retrieve his cellphone from his side of the room, snatching it from the nightstand where he had left it. His steps were then directed back to Cyrus' bed and gently plopped down on the edge of it as he opened up a food ordering app. "I promise I'll do my best to stay one step ahead, Cy." he declared as blue eyes skimmed the various options the app had to offer. The originally had planned pizza. Or at least Caleb believed it'd been pizza? [break][break]
Yet his forgetful self always, well.. forgot. "Are we getting pizza? Or do you want something else instead? I just don't feel like eating pineapple this time." he crinkled his nose up. How did his mother eat it had always been beyond him, but he wasn't one to judge. He loved her to bits, but he never believed that fruit belonged anywhere close on pizza.

With Caleb having left him, he suddenly felt cold without another source of heat near by. Ah well, it be like that sometimes. Stretched out his legs like a cat he would then promptly cross his legs with ankle across a knee. "Pizza!" He reminded his friend in a little sing-song voice that soon ended in a little hum as he made a face. A hand reached out to pointed at his bestie, "S'cuse you, Sir, pineapple is a perfectly acceptable pizza topping." It was like he knew exactly what his friend was thinking and who that thought was directed towards. "It's not my fault you didn't inherit your mother refined taste in pizza." He huffed in a tease. "But, we can forgo the pineapple this time, for your sanity. Buuuuuuut, can we get cheese sticks too? I crave the most fattening thing on the menu!" He spoke with a slightly whine as he rolled over onto his side, picking at his blankets. It was at that moment he recalled their conversation that didn't have to do with food. "Ohh, wanna hear a fun story? I got tackled the other day by some random weird guy in my drama class." He started out with an eye roll. "Just a shame he wasn't hot." He sighed, over dramatic like. |

Playfully, Caleb stuck his tongue out in Cyrus' direction the moment pineapple had been mentioned. Of course he'd want to add that, and the thought alone made Caleb's body shudder in distaste. "I really don't know how you and mom handle that." his lips pursed childishly as he continued to press buttons along his screen, picking the medium sized, pepperoni pizza along with cheesy sticks. Oh, and sodas, he couldn't forget those. Caleb continued to go through the menu, submitted their order, paid electronically, then paused and slowly glanced over towards his best friend. [break][break]
Eyelids moved gradually as he attempted to digest what he'd just been told. " . . . what?" he inquired, still mentally filling in the blanks Cyrus' declaration seeded into his mind. Did he hear correctly? He wasn't particularly sure if he did, so he had to double check by shaking his head prior to leaning over and press his hand onto the mattress. "D-Do you want to run that by me again?" he smiled, almost looking hopeful that he misheard what had been expressed. There weren't many students, let alone people, who dared to cross Cyrus' path generally. [break][break]
Granted, he's always been a sweetheart and people normally judged a book by their cover, but not once in all of the years of knowing Cyrus has Caleb heard something similar to.. being attacked by some random guy. Brows furrowed slightly as he waited for his answer, making sure to slip his phone back into his pocket. "You mean.. some guy.. like, a guy you've never met before?" he added without giving Cyrus a chance to respond just yet until then. He had so many questions..

"It's called having taste buds, my friend. Something, you clearly don't have." At least, in the terms of pizza. He was pretty good with any other food. One day, he will succeed in making Caleb love pineapple on pizza. "Don't worry, you'll develop them when your taller." Ah, it was so much fun to tease Caleb! He half expected to get a pouty face for that comment or his adorable little kitty like glare. In which case, Cyrus would just grin like the gremlin he could be! Now, he looked innocently at Caleb. "Ya, I got tackled by some guy in the theater. Nuts isn't? Don't even really know him. I just know he's in my class." Cyrus offered the explanation with a small shrug. "Hey, don't forget the pizza." Cyrus wiggled a finger towards the phone that was now stored away in his besties pocket. "Anyways, I guess he did it cause I scared the shit out of him. Just tackled me and stayed there for so long I think he was either waiting for something or he confused himself. Weird ass kid if you ask me. At the initial comment, Caleb offered Cyrus a huffed breath accompanied by a pout. "I have taste buds, thank you. Yours are just broken somehow." he nodded to himself as a matter of fact kind of way before he lifted his phone to show he already had placed their order. "Way ahead of you." the teen smiled as he scooted further onto the mattress and set his phone off to a side. "We really need to stop attracting weirdos.." [break][break]
He sighed softly as he pressed his hands onto the bed to support his body once he leaned back onto them. "Kind of wonder if he'll show up for our lesson on Friday. It's already been a week. He can't be grossed out with me for that long, right?" Caleb craned his head slightly to one side as he glanced over towards his companion. At least he hoped it'd all be over by then. Then another thought invaded his mind. [break][break]
A sound escaped the youth as he flopped back onto the bed, then wiggled his feet into the air. "Argh, I forgot we worked tomorrow, Cyyyyy!" he exclaimed, sprawled out on the surface. Abruptly, he sat upright and nodded in newfound determination with a smile on his lips. "It's fine, it's going to be a good shift, right? Right. You're going to be there with me, after all!" he happily exclaimed. Everything felt brighter whenever Cyrus was around.
