He'd normally grab his phone to check the time, but that meant moving from his spot lying on the grassy field to fish around for it in his bag. The morning sun hadn't quite crested over the tops of the hills yet, but the ordinarily inky night sky was starting to bloom with a shade of mauve that suggested it might make an appearance soon. Not yet, he hoped to himself as he yawned. He'd hardly gotten a chance to sleep, head barely hitting his pillow before his alarm went off, reminding him he had to make the trek outside. It was a risk, sneaking out of the dorm past curfew. But he had to be ready for the star of the show—a comet with the brightest magnitude in over a decade. [break][break]

School rules be damned, he knew this was worth taking a risk for. He'd regret it too much if he didn't even make an effort to try. But there was still a sort of sinking dread in the pit of his stomach that someone was going to catch him out here. [break][break]
If only he realized how ridiculous he looked, trying to camouflage himself in the field by lying in the grass, right beside an elaborate, all too conspicuous camera setup standing up on a tripod. [break][break]
