Sebastian was surprised. He had never been the first one in a dorm room before. He thought he would like the bed against the wall, but he remembered that there was probably another bed right on the other side of the wall. Would he really want to sleep here? He didn't feel very comfortable in the bed in the middle of the room, but it wasn't against a wall with another bed on the other side of it. But it was in the middle of the room! Well there wasn't a bed practically next to it with a wall between them. Sebastian really couldn't choose and it really bothered him. He felt it was better that he could make the decision, but he really had a problem making it. Then the door opened, and he instantly chose the bed in the middle of the room. He put his suitcase on it, opened it and started unpacking. "Hi." Sebastian said, walking to him and putting out his hand for a handshake. "How arre you doing? My name's Sebastian." Okay, he probably already knew that, since Sebastian already knew that his dorm mate was Vayne Aurelius and he was a senior. Vayne Aurelius

Vayne stepped through the threshold and spotted his roommate unpacking on the bed he had chosen. He moved over to the unclaimed bed and placed his two suitcases on the mattress. He started to unpack his clothes and belongings onto the mattress before replying to the guy, "Hello, I'm Vayne Aurelius. It's nice to meet you. Let's have a good year as roommates." He let the statement hang in the air as he walked over to the desk on his side of the room and started placing things into it. It might've taken him maybe 15 to 20 minutes to unpack his things, but once he was done with the task, he collapsed onto the bed. His blue eyes stared up at the ceiling. This was his second year at the academy, yet he was still new to the whole living on campus ordeal. When he left his old school and city, he knew he asked for a change, but he didn't expect this. He glanced over at his roommate, to see how far along he was with his unpacking and decided to strike up a conversation with the lad, "Since we'll both be spending time around one another, why don't we take the time to get to know one another? I'll start first, what kind of hobbies are you in to?" Sebastian Cursive

"Um, well, I'm a theatre geek." Sebastian said enthusiastically. "So unless you want a very long conversation, don't ever talk to me about theatre. I can talk about it forever. I also play the guita -- " His guitar! Whaere was his guitar? He didn't forget it, did he? He looked under the bed for it. There it was. He always hid it under the bed to protect it. "I also play the guitar and sing songs. I can draw very well. One of my true talents. And I watch TV a lot. Sadly too much, actually. I like Doctor Who -- the classic shows are better than the later ones. Yes, I know there are plastic tentacles and stuff like that, but then David Tennant was turned into a house elf. I'll never forgive Russel T. Davies for that! -- Star Trek, NCIS, Law & Order, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, and a lot more TV shows. I really love British shows -- a friend introduced me to them -- like Fawlty Towers -- People like Monty Python, I like Fawlty Towers better -- The Good Neighbors, Yes, Minister, Yes, Prime Minister, Dragon's Den, and Whose Line Is It Anyway? The British version is a lot better than the Amnerican version. There's a lot more, but I dont' want you to fall asleep when I list them all." He probably listed too many shows and that wasn't all of them, not by a long shot. "Oh, and my favorite musical is Les Miserables and my favorite play is Equus."
Sebastian paused for a moment. Was he being too opinionated? Wait. Wasn't he forgetting something? Oh yes. "What are yours?" He finally remembered to ask. Vayne Aurelius

While his roommate started listing off various characteristics about themselves, Vayne did the best he could to keep up with the information he was being bombarded with. It was a lot, but there were some tidbits of things he felt they could discuss. He wanted to make sure there were some common ground for the two of them because he wanted to make sharing a space together as painless as possible. The immediate thing, which caught his attention was the guitar. Meeting a fellow musician always peaked Vayne's interests. This is because he was a piano player. Anyone who studies or learns playing an instrument or music, knows that the piano is one of the key instruments in creating music. It has the unique ability of allowing someone to play around with notes and tones through its repertoire of keys to mimic notes. It helps for people to hear the note out loud when making new songs or pieces. He's always found it very stimulating to discuss music with other musicians and here he was hoping for the same outcome. "Why don't you play something on the guitar? I play an instrument myself, I just can't play it here since a piano in this room might cause a bit of tightness in space."Sebastian Cursive

"Another musician!" Sebastian said, a little too loudly, showing his enthusiasm at the idea. "That's awesome!" He took his guitar out from under his bed and held it in his lap ready to play. "Do you have a request. I'm really good at showtunes, being a theatre geek, but I do know some popular songs as well And please mention that band or the person who sings the song, in case there's another song with the same title." He couldn't help but smile. "I'd hate to play 'Memory' from Cats when you meant 'Memory' by Babra Streisand. Oh wait, that's 'Memories.'" He didn't like being wrong, and here he was embarrassing himself in front of someone he just met. Great. What must he think of him. Sebastian wondered. "l''d just hate to make a mistake like that. Is all. Any requests? He was going to suggest keyboards could fit in the dorm room, but the sound was so much better on a piano, it just wasn't' the same. And a grand piano was the best! He couldn't wait to hear -- oh smeg! What was his name again? -- him play the piano. Vayne Aurelius

He smirked at Sebastian's immediate interest in playing for him. Musicians are always willing to showcase their skills, but to play for another musician who can appreciate the time and effort it took to learn all their current skills was another thing. Having another musician listen to your playing can allow for critique which could help the person grow in skill. He sat up and thought to himself. He might've only played classical pieces on the piano, but his interests in music extended beyond the classics he practiced. "Hmmm, would you happen to know the song "Fall for You" by Second Hand Serenade? The acoustic version of the song always sounded better to me." He sat up in anticipation to see if Sebastian could play the song. He did however want to give the young man a way out if he didn't know the song. "If you don't know the song, then don't worry about it. Just play whatever you're best at and lets hear it."

"I've heard the song twice." Sebastian said. "So while I know the song, I don't know it well enough to sing it." He thought for a moment. "Which song would you rather hear?" Sebastian began. "'Hotel California,' 'The House of the Rising Sun,' 'One Tin Soldier,' 'Eleanor Rigby,' or 'Stairway to Heaven?'" While Sebastian preferred to sing a song from a musical, though admittedly it would take a short time to figure out which one he would choose. But most people didn't like showtunes, unless they were theatre geeks, so he chose other songs instead. He could have added so many other songs to that list, but decided against it. He probably should've listed more recent songs, but those songs were some of his favorites. He hoped that Vayne agreed with him. though he realized he might not agree. Vayne Aurelius

It was slightly disappointing that Sebastian couldn't play the song of his choice. Truthfully, it might've been a stretch for someone to be able to play that song, since it isn't too well known. He was a bit surprised Sebastian had even heard of the song before. He pushed aside his slight disappointment and focused on the choices he was given. "Hmmmm..." His voice trailed as finalized a choice. "Let's go with Hotel California. I haven't heard it in awhile and I'd like to see what you've got." The other choices. outside of Stairway to Heaven, was foreign to him. His best guess was that they were from a genre he had never heard from before. He pulled his cellphone out and reached over to his desk to place the device onto it, before settling back onto his bed to hear Sebastian play. Sebastian Cursive

Sebastian had no problem playing the song, but why would Vayne need his cell phone on the desk? This weirded him out a little. He wasn't going to record Sebastian singing the song, was he? He didn't have much time to find the recording button on the device, maybe. Unless it was something he -- He suddenly felt very tense. He couldn't play well if he was so tense. But then he couldn't really get out of it either. Maybe playing the song would help calm him down. Maybe. St the same time, id he was a fellow musician, he knew he shouldn't be recording Sebastian without his permission. This thought seemed to calm him down a little bit. But why would he need to put the phone on the desk just before he sang a song? Sebastian played the intro and tried to ignore the phone. It seemed very long, though it was about fifty seconds long. And he then started singing: "On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair" He sang to Vayne. "Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air" He sang to the phone. "Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light He sang to Vayne. "My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim, I had to stop for the night" He sang to the phone. "There she stood in the doorway, I heard the mission bell" He sang to Vayne. "And I was thinkin' to myself, 'This could be heaven or this could be hell' He sang to the phone. "Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way He sang to Vayne. "There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say He sang to the phone "Welcome to the Hotel California. He sang to Vayne. Not only was Sebastian's attention taken by the phone, but his singing might've been a little off up to this point. But he got his groove back on and his attention fell only on Vayne when he started singing the chorus. He felt himself again and he felt his singing was now perfect. "Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)"Such a lovely face"Plenty of room at the Hotel California"Any time of year (any time of year)"You can find it here"Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes-Benz, uh She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys that she calls friends How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat Some dance to remember, some dance to forget So I called up the Captain, 'Please bring me my wine' He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1969' And still, those voices are calling from far away Wake you up in the middle of the night just to hear them say
"Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place (such a lovely place) Such a lovely face They're livin' it up at the Hotel California What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise) Bring your alibis"
Mirrors on the ceiling, the pink champagne on ice And she said, "We are all just prisoners here of our own device" And in the master's chambers, they gathered for the feast They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast Last thing I remember, I was running for the door I had to find the passage back to the place I was before "Relax, " said the night man, "We are programmed to receive You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"
When Sebastian finished playing the guitar, he smiled. "I"'m sorry, I was a bit off on the first verse, but i got better at the chorus." Sebastian said. "It's a great song."Vayne Aurelius
