[attr="class","verde"] his last class was finished he was finally free. he had been thinking about getting back on the ice. he kept trying to get out there, but he had been so busy. today was the day. there would be nothing that would stop him from getting back on that ice rink. even if it meant only being a few minutes.
he returned to his dorm to change out of his uniform and into more comfortable clothing. he grabbed his bag that had his skates, his phone and he went on his way. he wondered how crowded the rink would be. would there be lessons going on? he didn't want to be in the way if there was. well there was only one way to find out.
when he arrived the rink wasn't too full of other kids. he started to stretch first. as much as he wanted to jump on the ice he knew what he needed to do first. after all it had been quite sometime since he had last been on the ice. once he felt ready he went to sit on an empty bench. switching from his shoes to skates and eventually making his way towards the ice. | The moment classes had ended for the day, the siren was out of her seat, sprinting before the teacher could finish his goodbye to the class. She aimed to be the first one at the ice rink before anyone else, as she wanted to get a few more tries with her newest trick. Verity needed plenty of room to do so, so if the rink was going to be crowded today, she’d best get there early to at least get a few attempts in.
She couldn’t help but grin when she saw no one other than the figure skating coach, to whom she gave a mock salute. With no time to stop and chat, she skitted into the girls’ locker room, tossing her book bag into the locker, her sports bag landing on a bench with a solid thud. In record time, her uniform was messily thrown into the bag as she put on one of her workout dresses. Verity only took a moment to grab her skates before running out in her mismatched socks.
She bit her bottom lip as students started to filter in, throwing a leg up against the wall, using it as she stretched out. 1...2...3—the seconds ticked by until she reached 60 and then switched to the other leg. After another 60 seconds, she moved away from the wall and twisted her upper body while moving up and down on her tiptoes. Another minute. Each little stretch took her closer to being ready.
Only when she spotted a pair of girls chatting as they walked into the locker room did Verity put on her skates. Unlike the boys, they couldn’t skate in their uniforms unless they wanted to risk flashing everyone. If it had been only other girls around, the pink-locked girl might have just started practicing as soon as she entered the rink. Instead, she hurried onto the ice before anyone else. Still, she began with a few laps, bending her knees as she picked up speed.
And then she jumped. Her arms went up as her body quickly rotated. Once… twice… thrice… but she only made it halfway through her fourth rotation before she fell. She twisted her form and relaxed, landing on her bottom with a puff. Okay, maybe she got a bit overzealous there. She should warm up to it. So, she proceeded to go around the rink doing simple double rotations before moving up to triples, building her confidence before attempting the trick again.

[attr="class","verde"] why did it feel like he was learning to walk again? it year wasn't that long to forget everything was it? his mom had been super adamant about not touching the ice until his injury was fully healed. honestly it hadn't been that big of a deal. then again to him nothing ever was. he was completely fine even though he really hadn't. he could see the disappointment in his mother's eyes. he didn't want to let her down.
he slowly did a few laps around the rink. it really had been a long time since he had been in a rink, but despite his silly thoughts about forgetting everything. his muscle memory kicked in. he knew he was rusty so he would simply be starting getting back to the basics.
as he skated he took notice of the other skaters around. his eyes settling on a pink haired girl. he slowed down to watch her jumps. he forgot how amazing it felt being up in the air. he was about to tell her about how great that jump was, but then he flinched slightly at the sight of her not sticking her landing. it was probably a good idea not to call attention to her. there was also that the falling down. he did not miss that and the sympathetic sighs that came along with it. she still did great though! he knew jumps were something he wasn't going to get into just now. he continued to skate, enjoying the feeling as he glided around. | The siren closed her eyes, letting out a breath, feeling herself soaring over the ice. Eyes fluttering open, she narrowed them at the frozen ground beneath her. She was able to perform a quad scarlow. There was no doubt about it, as failure was not an option for her. Scratch that. What was not an option for her? Failure? What was that? She didn’t know her. As long as she hadn’t given up, the maiden hadn’t failed.
She moved further inward into the rink, leaving space for those doing laps and those just getting onto the ice—or at least attempting to. It looked like there were some new skaters wanting to learn. So she smirked. They probably wouldn’t understand what they were about to witness, though one day they would. Because right now, she was going to complete the trick for the first time.
Once again, she leapt into the air, catching more height than she had the time before. After one, two, three turns… she completed her fourth, all while sticking the landing. Her feet unconsciously propelled her forward as her jaw dropped, with a tilt of her head. Then she immediately closed her mouth, only to quickly open it again. She had told herself she would get it, but after months of practicing, there was no reason to think she would have landed it today of all days.
A grin spread across her face, her cheeks not only pink from the cold but also from the adrenaline pumping through her veins. Verity couldn’t contain the gleeful giggle that escaped her thin lips. She twisted around to glide backward through the rink, just enjoying the moment. With her movements in practiced, feigned sloppiness, the young lady found herself skating alongside a boy out of habit. After all, she was used to skating with a partner.
Verity offered him a bright smile in greeting. She didn’t recognize him, which wasn’t too surprising. The two had never interacted. Though Verity could recognize, even if she couldn’t name, many faces that practiced at the rink, he would have at least sparked familiarity. She offered him a questioning hum. “I don’t think I’ve seen ya before,” she said in a voice with a strong southern drawl, “but it doesn’t look like it’s your first time on the ice.” Verity looked up at him with a tilt of her head. “New here? My name’s Verity, by the way.”

[attr="class","verde"] he knew he wasn't the only had that caught that amazing jump. it made him curious. was she doing all that footwork just for fun? there were plenty of people on the ice that were clearly on a different skill level. he figured there was only one way to find out and that would be by asking.
maybe he could catch her whenever she was done. if she was practicing the last thing he wanted to do was interrupt her. though after a few more laps he noticed her getting closer.
she smiled at him and he smiled in return. now would be a good chance to say something."that was awesome!"it had been too long for him since he had also felt that sort of rush but seeing her brought back memories. it got him excited to try again. he shook his head at her comment."no? i've been here since my freshmen year."unless she had been asking more specifically about the rink."you are correct. though i'm a little rusty compared to you."he chuckled."nice to meet you, i'm seth." | With a toothy grin, the siren flicked her hands as if tossing her locks over her shoulder, despite them being styled in space buns. “Why, Seth,” she said, tilting her head with a click of her tongue, savoring his name. “Thank you very much!” Verity moved from beside the boy to in front of him, performing a half turn so that she glided backward. “My hard work seems to have finally paid off.” Part of her wished she would have succeeded sooner, but it wasn’t as if she needed to be in a rush.
She had done well in the few solo competitions she had entered, but it really wasn’t her forte. Pairs were where she had shone the most. However, it had been over a year since she’d found a partner to skate with, and she had yet to find anyone she wanted to pair with. She could be quite picky. They had to be at least close to her skill level, preferably on par. But that was a secondary concern. The duo would have to be in sync with each other, and skill alone couldn’t always bring that to the table.
"No? I've been here since my freshman year."
Oh… so, not a freshman? His uniform could have given that away. If she had seen him coming into the rink, she could have his uniform. However Verity must have missed him coming inside. The maiden looks up to meet his eyes, “You’re a sophomore too?” Did they have a class together? They might have. Verity would notice him now if they did.
The girl outstretched her arms as she followed the curve of the rink. “Took a break from the rink last year?” She asked, putting two and two together since Seth had said he was rusty. “How does it feel being back on the ice?” Verity was content to small talk as the number of students on the rink increased. She’d wait to practice more. And if he had taken a long break, he might very well be here just for some fun.

[attr="class","verde"] her reaction made him laugh softly watching as she moved to face him. he nodded in agreement. he wasn't sure how long she had been practicing, but the fact that she got it after a few tries was amazing."yeah it makes me realize i better get my act together."he chuckled. despite feeling like it had been years he knew once he got back into the swing of things the break would be a thing of the past.
then again just because he wasn't on the ice didn't mean he just sat around. no he made sure he was up and doing things. the boy couldn't sit still for too long. something would always catch his eye and off he would go.
he nodded once more."yeah. maybe we have a class together. honestly though with how big the school is it's possible we have missed each other. i promise i wasn't hiding."he laughed at his silly remark.
he pretended to count the months on his fingers as before he answered her."yeah, it's been a hot minute. it wasn't my choice, i was totally fine i could been out here."there was no point in thinking of what could have been. that time had gone and passed."amazing. is that an overstatement. i haven't even gotten started yet. i promised i'd take it slow, but well see."he laughed once more. | The siren did another half turn, seemingly unable to stay still, finding herself on his opposite side from before. “Aww, that stinks.” Her lips faintly turned down. “It’s—” With a pregnant pause, she gave herself a moment to think. “It can be hard when you’re faced with what the world throws at you.” If anything, she could understand that. With the old, faulty wiring in her childhood home, it went up in flames, leaving her the only survivor. She’d had a nightmare, so she had crept downstairs to sleep on the couch. It was the only reason she was still alive today.
Verity didn’t dwell on that topic for long. Instead, she threw him a charming smile. “But hey! Look at you now.” She hummed in a singsong tune, “Back on the ice.” Her charming look morphed into one of tongue-in-cheek. “And I promise, you don’t look too much like a newborn deer.” The girl teased him all in good fun. He was doing well despite claiming to be rusty. If this was him rusty, she’d love to see him when he wasn’t.
Watching him skate, she shifted her focus to something beyond casual conversation. Verity was scouting. She changed her movements to mostly match his. “Have you ever competed before?” There was no point in pursuing the topic if he was not even interested in doing competitions. If Seth had competed, he likely would have only done solo events. But he could still pair up with someone now—it might just take a bit more work. Of which Verity did not mind a bit. She was more than happy to put in the work and time if it meant finding a good partner.

[attr="class","verde"] he nodded at her words."yeah, it's not my first time. though i think i learned my lesson for now...maybe."he laughed it off. it's not like he made it a habit to get injured. there were just times he didn't know how to stop. pushing himself past his limits sometimes and of course accidents happened. you lived and you learned. honestly he wasn't too hung up about it. well anymore."it wasn't to bad after a few months i could still practice, just not on the ice. which i know isn't the same, but it was better than nothing."he smiled.
the comment about him not looking like a baby deer made him laugh."so you're saying i'm not out here looking like bambi, well i guess that's good. i mean i have yet to fall down so that's a plus."he said as he decided to switch up his laps. he was going to do the same thing she had done and skate backwards. he made sure he wasn't too close to her before turning. he knew switching from solid ground to ice wasn't the easiest, but again he was no stranger to the ice rink. despite all his joking about being rusty he didn't forget everything he had learned.
"oh, had i known i was going to be interviewed i would of brought my resume and wore something a little nicer."he joked."i have mostly solo stuff, but i did have a partner once."he figured it was only fair to direct the question back at her."you?" | A confident grin spread across her face. “Oh, I compete, alright.” Verity now studied each movement he made, her eyes glued to him as he switched places with the same ease she would have. “And I win.” She was only slightly trying to brag about it; after all, figure skating was her pride and joy. “I’m a hardcore pairs skater… well, that was until I moved to Canada.” The maiden clicked her tongue in disappointment. “I haven’t been able to find anyone who fits all my requirements, so I’ve been solo lately.”
Hopefully, that wouldn’t be the case for much longer.
Verity itched to move, to do something other than just letting her blades glide across the ice; however, she stilled herself. “I’m not looking to stay solo.” She looked him over once more. She couldn’t help but think he was doing well even while rusty. Therefore, she didn’t hesitate. “Are you looking to get back into pairs?” She cleared her throat. “Of course, I’m not just asking for no reason.” No point beating around the bush. “I want to see if we’re compatible.” Verity shrugged. “That is, if you’re interested.” She gradually began to slow down. “I will say, if you’re even the least bit interested, I have to inform you: I’m reaching for the moon here. I want to compete in the Olympics.”
Going up against the best of the best—it had been her dream for a long time, and she was finally the right age to enter. She’d rather not delay it. “I want that gold medal.” She offered him a smile. “I know this probably comes off as super pushy. We’ve known each other… for what? A whole five minutes?” She couldn’t help but chuckle at herself. “But you seem good, and I’d rather make an offer before someone else does.” Verity was going to take the chance before anyone beat her to it. “Of course, I’m not asking for an answer right now.” After all, wasn’t this his first time on the ice in a while? “So, while you’re taking it easy, can I ask you to think about it?”

[attr="class","verde"] had she not said a word the smile on her face alone would of answered his question. he chuckled softly."oh, you're not from around here."it was a silly statement considering she had a bit of an accent, but then again who didn't?"was it a recent move? well maybe not since you've probably been here since freshman year too right?"he asked curiously.
it made him wonder how long she had been solo and was it hard to find a partner? well one that was at her skill level. that would make things a little difficult. that question was soon answered. what were her requirements? he slowed down until he came to a stop. as much fun as he was having skating around. it was probably not the best way to have a conversation. she seemed serious about looking for a partner. not that he was assuming she was going to ask him. he didn't want to get ahead of himself.
then the question was asked. he would of been lying if he said he hadn't been a little bit excited. his plan had only been to get back on the ice. he hadn't even thought about any sort of competitions. not that he would start training for them. again he couldn't get ahead of himself. what if he didn't meet her expectations. all these thoughts running through his head as she continued to talk. he nodded."no, yeah for sure. that would make the most sense."especially after hearing she wanted to compete in the olympics. he didn't want to give her false hope.
he smiled back at her and shook his head."i don't see it as pushy. you have goals and there's nothing wrong with knowing what you want."he told her honestly. with the way he was right now he would have to kick it up a notch."i'll for sure think about it. i think it would be fun to skate in pairs again honestly." | Verity shook her head. “I’m not.” She offered a shrug. “Not even from Canada. Born and raised a good ‘ol American.” She loved her home country, but she needed to get far away from those she sadly called family. “I’ve only been in Canada since I moved here my freshman year.” They probably weren’t going to follow her here. She’d been lucky enough to qualify and get accepted to Panacea Academy on a scholarship. “I don’t really leave the city much.” She didn’t have much of a reason to.
The siren came to a stop along with Seth, taking a place beside him and leaning against the wall. If she was going to have this conversation, she’d rather take the time to have it. “Well, I definitely know what I want when it comes to my figure skating.” Verity grinned up at him. “And I know my goals can be intense to some.” She shrugged again. “There are few who are that intense.” Verity looked away toward the ice. There were a few other students on the ice with skills, but none of them cared to face others in the Olympics. And the one boy who did approach her didn’t have the skills for it… that, and he just kind of creeped her out.
She pushed herself off the wall and looked back at Seth with another smile. “Thanks for thinking about it.” Even if it was a lie and he had already made the decision not to, Verity still gave her thanks. Not everyone was comfortable giving a direct no. “For me, there is nothing like being a pair.” There was just a beauty about it that she could never even begin to explain. She placed her hands behind her back. “Take as much time as you need.” She hummed with a sway of her body. “Feel free to grab my number before you leave… or, well, you can find me here most days if you want to give it a try.”

[attr="class","verde"] he knew the school didn't just have students from here, but even so it was still fun to meet someone that wasn't a candadian native."that's cool."he smiled."well i mean is there a reason too especially if there's a rink right here in school."he said jokingly.
he nodded at her words."i mean that makes sense. after all you did say you were shooting for the moon."not that there was anything wrong with not knowing what someone wanted to do. people didn't have to live life at full speed. it was something that could be experienced in many different ways. perhaps it wasn't because they had just met, but she didn't seem intense. if anything like he had said before she knew what she wanted and was going for it.
he smiled at her words of thanks."of course."he really was thinking about taking her up on her offer. skating in pairs came with it's own set of challenges. though right now what had piqued his interest was to even see if he made the cut."yeah we can exchange numbers. i mean you'll probably see me more often now that i'm allowed back on the ice."he said with a grin as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. normally he would have left it in his bag, but because he wasn't going to do anything too difficult today he left it on him. he handed her his phone."if for some reason i can't find you, i can always text you my answer." | | | | She carefully pulled Seth’s phone near her, fingertips lightly tapping upon the screen. Unlike him, she didn’t have her device on her—it sat with her other belongings in the locker room. “If you do plan on being here often, we’ll probably be crossing paths quite often.” Verity finished typing in her information and handed the phone back to him. “As long as I’m not off studying or working.” She tilted her head, closing her eyes. “I might take a day off here and there on weekdays.” She was only human, after all; sometimes she just needed a break from putting stress on her body.
She put some distance between them as a wobbly student skated between them. The girl stayed upright for a few seconds before she started to fall. Verity made no move to help, not wanting to get caught by the blades. Instead, she flinched as she watched the girl stretch her arms out to catch herself. Luckily, the girl quickly tried to get back up, seemingly unhurt. “You shouldn’t catch yourself with your hands; you’ll hurt yourself that way.” The pink-haired girl started to move toward the other to help but froze when the girl glared at her.
The new skater spoke with what could be described as a growl. “I know what I’m doing.”
Verity rolled her eyes. That’s what I get for trying to help others, she thought, offering a shrug while watching the coach make her way over to the trio. She then started to skate backward, offering Seth a goodbye wave and fully ignoring the girl. “If you need anything, feel free to ask!” She’d let him get back to working out his rust… and she’d probably keep an eye on him to see how he progressed.

[attr="class","verde"] he nodded as he took his phone back and stuffed it into the pocket of his jacket."oh no for sure. i have a bit of catching up to do, but i think i'll be able to manage."he told her with a smile. it helped that he had his weekends to himself. he had thought about getting a job, but if he was returning back to the ice. he wanted to focus on that as much as possible without risking his studies.
"that makes sense, i wouldn't want to get behind on my homework either."he nodded.
thankfully he had put his phone away before the other skater started coming towards them. he knew too well what could happen if he tried to help especially from where they were standing. he stayed quiet as the interaction between the girl's happened.
it was a little awkward to say the least, but he knew better than to but in. especially when there was someone that didn't want to listen. after they girl left seth spoke."yikes...anyways..."it seemed like their conversation was coming to an end after that awkward interruption."okay sounds good, i'll talk to you later."he smiled at her before picking up where he had left off.
