"Sure! I'd love that" Mason beamed widely. It seemed to Mason that the more he was around Sebastian, the more he naturally smiled. Usually people told him he always had a determined, intense look about him that made him look mean or grumpy sometimes. It wasn't his intention to be like that, but that how he was now days. So now he had a running buddy on campus. Next he was going to look for someone on the school wrestling team, that was passionate as him. Like him, they would have to be pretty intensely into training and working out- almost living, eating and breathing the sport 24/7 as it were. He imagined that they would spend as much of their spare time as possible during wrestling season, sparring together. Most likely they would be bigger than him. But that didn't worry Mason. He was used to sparring with kids a little bit bigger than him. That just meant he had to work harder to negate their superior strength. For their part, sparring with Mason they had to deal with a kid who went for leg-shots more, was faster on his feet and they had to focus more on their technique than their strength when they sparred.
Mason chuckled. Someone sooner or later would have to ask him what else he liked to do apart from working out and wrestling. It was a fair question and his answer was designed to show he was more than a one dimensional person. "Well...I like to go hiking and fishing. It is kind of nice to get out in the outdoors from time to time. My dad had a work friend who had their own vacation home near a lake and we used to borrow it over the summer or come visit or a couple of weeks over the summer. Always used to go hiking or fishing when I was there. It was pretty cool fun". Like all kids up to and after their first teen years, he loved to explore. Over the summer he would go on little hikes in the woods near the vacation home by himself or with other kids. Sometimes it was all morning hikes, home in time for lunch or all day hikes when he got home in time for dinner. During the hikes he would explore old trees and trails, or even jump into the lake for a swim, off an old oak tree that stretched it branches over the water. Other times after he went swimming he would sun bath on the boat jetty or a large sun baked rock by the lakeshore.
"Oh cool- you can draw?" he asked, his interest piqued. He had never meet a guy who was an artist- not being able to draw much better himself outside of crude stick figures. "So you like take Art class I guess?" he ventured to ask. "So you want to be an actor too huh? Cool. So...maybe one day I'll see you in the movies?" he asked genuinely.

"Hiking can be fun, for sure." Sebastian said. "Just roaming around seeing what's there." LIke roaming around the campus, he thought. People were always curious and liked looking around things. "I went fishing once. Again at summer camp. I didn't catch anything very big, but I was supposed to scale and clean them and I just couldn't, so the counselor did instead. I understand you need to eat, but it's way too much work. I'll eat vegetables and berries instead." He kinda maeant it as a joke, since he was a carnivore, not an herbivore. Why was it that when you said you wanted to be an actor, people always thought you wanted to be in movies? Sebastian didn't understand the prejudice people seemed to have against theatre. Maybe because they didn't go to plays as much as they went to movies. But Sebastian thought theatre was magic and everybody had to see at least one professional production on stage. At least once in their life. Just to experience it. "Have you ever seen a play live on stage?" If you listened carefully to his tone of voice, you knew he feared Mason had not. Well, Mason couldn't really fish here. "So, what do you do here when you're not studying or working out?"Mason Sato

"Mmm- yeah...if you can look past the trees- and there is a lot of fog on the trail" Mason added to what Sebastian had had said. In the past when hiking Mason had been through pretty dense forested areas and had even had to contend with an unexpected fog bank rolling in off the lakeshore. Get caught in one of those and it was entirely possible to get lost or walk off the trail and over a cliff face... A small smile crossed Mason's face at Sebastian's 'fish tale'. Gutting and scaling a fish could be a little bit icky and a lot yucky- but it had to be done, as he found out himself. "Yeah- can be kind of gross gutting fish. Guess that is why they have hamburgers and fries". That was the great thing about hamburgers- you didn't have to go hunting them or gutting them...unless you needed to take out the pickles from them.
Like a lot of people, Mason labored under the misconception that actors were in movies (or god awful commercials). Never crossed his mind that an actor could legitimately perform on a stage. Mason had to think- had he seen a play on stage? "Yeah..." he said slowly. "My cousin was in 'The King And I' a few years ago. My whole family went along to support them. It was kind of long, but the songs and costumes were pretty cool" he said. "Not exactly sure..." he answered in reply to Sebastian's last question, "Haven't been here all that long to really say what else I do when I am not working out or studying. I guess calling my family and hanging out around my dorm room. I am still getting to meet the guys that live there" he said as he watched the interactions of the horses in the field.

"The King and I." Sebastian repeated. He was finding the file in his head about the musical. "Rodgers and Hammerstein. Unfortunately, I've only seen the movie. Has a really good political song in it. Hmm. Let's see if I remember the lyric I'm looking for. Strangely it mentions fishes. Er. fish." Sebastian took a little while to hum the song he had in mind. Then after a few minutes when he came to the part in the song, he sang it out loud: "Is a danger to be trusting one another, "One will seldom want to do what other wishes… "But unless someday somebody trust somebody, "There’ll be nothing left on earth excepting fishes!"He smiled awkwardly. "Sorry, I'm definitely a theatre geek." He said. "Do you only like high school and college wrestling or do you watch professional wrestling, if you can call it that, on TV?" The stupid generality might be wrong, but here was a kid who seemed very intense about wrestling, so it made some sense he might watch real wrestling on TV, but not quite the sports entertainment known as professional wrestling. Sebastian mainly watched it for the muscular bodies. He just didn't understand how it was possible for the muscular wrestlers to lose sometimes to the less muscular wrestlers. If he was a betting man, he would've lost his shirt on a lot of wrestling matches a long time ago, whether they were professional wrestling matches or real matches he could find on YouTube. Sebastian, being Sebastian, had to finish off the file in his head: "There's another good political song in South Pacific also by Rodgers and Hammerstein about being taught 'to hate all the people your relatives hate.'" Sebastian sung the last eight words which came from the song. He smiled again, a littel embarrassed. This was undoubtedly one reason why some people hated theatre geeks, but Sebastian was a good singer. He hoped that at least was a consolation. Mason Sato

Mason nodded- the play was indeed by Rodgers and Hammerstein. He remembered the name because it was on the front page of the playbill and VERY disappointed to find out it was a Hammerstein play and NOT a Hammersmith play. Still, he had enjoyed the play. He waited as Sebastian hummed the song to himself, contenting himself to continuing to pat and rub the horse that had paid attention to him. When Sebastian started singing, he was impressed with his ability to sing. Not having a musical or artistic bone in his body, he was easily impressed- not ever seen Sebastian on stage before. "Wow- you're actually quite good at this singing stuff!" he said in genuine admiration when Sebastian had finished singing. "You gonna be in any school plays this semesters?". He hadn't been at Panacea Academy that long, but he was pretty sure the school would have a play or something. If so- and Sebastian was in it, he would totally go see it sometime.
In response to Sebastian's awkward smile and admission, he just shrugged. "That's cool- it's something that you are like really, really into". It was no different to him being mega into his sport and devoting a lot of him time, energy and heart into it. Professional Wrestling? The Freshman rolled his eyes dismissively, made a gagging sound and snort. "No- that's all fake. I do the real kind" he answered. After all this time he should really have got used to people asking that question or making that comparison to his beloved sport and that televised buffoonery that had tarred his sport for so long. Still- Sebastian did ask him something he needed to think about for a second. "Umm- mostly it is like high school stuff and national level stuff. I am hoping that now that I am old enough, I might get picked to represent the province at Cadet level at the next Nationals" he admitted. Obviously he had a set goal and dream. "I kinda of watch the college level stuff- just so I know what is out there". He looked thoughtful for a minute. "Not sure if I will wrestle college level here- thinking if I go to college I MIGHT do it in Japan. They do it at college level over there. Otherwise, I also watch the wrestling in the Olympics as well" he said.
If people hated Theater Geeks, Mason wasn't one of them. He listened to Sebastian sing and enjoyed. "You are pretty good at that- singing I mean. You must know an uber-big amount of different songs" he said. It certainly seemed that way to him from where he was standing.

The horse near him whinneyed again and put his head down to eat grass itself. If this human was going to neglect him. "Sorry buddy." Sebastian stroked the horse's great neck. He looked at Mason and smiled as he thought of the best way to answer his last question. "How many wrestling holds and moves do you know?"The only jock Sebastian ever knew wo liked theatre was a friend of his who was in a couple of productions himself. Otherwise, jocks usually made fun of him and bullied him about it. Mason said he only saw one show and his cousin was in it. he didn't seem like the kinda guy who would be in a show. Unless he was possibly forced to do it to make up for a missed class or something. He looked at the jock and tried to remember if he knew what classes he liked. He didn't. They talked about a lot of things, so it made since Sebastian would forget it. He wasn't taking notes. It was weird that he didn't have a sketchbook with him. He wanted to sketch the kid and give it to him as a gift. Something told him that even if he hated it, which Sebastian was sure he wouldn't, he wouldn't tear it up in front of him. Sebastian tried to think of other questions to ask the boy, but couldn't think of any he hadn't already asked. Then Sebastian thought of challenging Mason to a race but decided against it because he was on the track team and would have a decided advantage over him. Then he realized he was underestimating the young boy and -- he would have to stop doing that. Besides, he would probably surprise him. "You interested in a race to the dorms?" Sebastian asked. Watching the grass-eating horse and Sebastian stroking its great neck, he was unprepared for the question he was asked out of the blue by Sebastian. What really knocked him balance was that he actually had to wrack his brains real hard to think about exactly how many wrestling moves, holds, escapes and throws he knew. Thinking about it, he could only describe what he knew as a 'spider web' of what he knew. For each wrestling move he knew, he probably at least three ways of setting up the move, three ways of doing the move, five for finishing off the move and three ways to counter the moving being done on him. How to explain that to Sebastian? "Oh...a few" he answered thoughtfully, "But I probably only use like twelve of them regularly". That was true and it was also a sensible answer too. Mason usually only used a dozen moves when he wrestled and they were ones he did real good or just suited his style of wrestling. Most of them always won him a match or scared the hell out of someone when he did them on them.
Oh yes- Mason knew EXACTLY how some Jocks were total jerks! It wasn't just 'theater geeks' like Sebastian they liked to prey on- they also liked to prey on kids smaller than them...like Mason. Mason was obviously on the short side of physical stature when it came to most Freshman boys- certainly he was one of the shortest in his class. What made it so entertaining for them was how easily he was to bait. There was nothing they loved more than to make him made and then see him lose it on his tormentor. It made beating up on him- which could be difficult sometimes, so much more rewarding. Or conversely, seeing him put a beat down on his tormentors and then see him get the blame for the altercation. By the time he was about to start at Panacea Academy, it was starting to become not so fun to mess with the diminutive gladiator kid. For starters, he was starting to get stronger- which made getting your butt kicked by him easier and less enjoyable. If things got really heated in a fight, he would seamlessly shift from using wrestling skills, to using MMA skills. Mason was pretty scary when he had a submission move on his opponent in a fight and was making them 'tap out'. So far his tormentors at Panacea Academy were yet to be educated to this reality...
The offer of a race came as a suprize to him- and it showed on his face. "Huh? Uh....umm...okay. Sure" he said as he climbed down from the fence. This...was not what he expected to happen when he saw Sebastian in the field.

As always, a question came into Sebastian's mind. "I was watching a wrestling match on YouTube. It definitely wasn't a regular wrestling match. Maybe it was a freestyle match. I say that because one of the guys wasn't wearing a shirt. I mean a singlet. Anyway, the guy was being dominated by his opponent until his opponent was on his stomach on the floor. And the guy took his leg and made the kid fly in the air. I think the video was titled 'Bow and Arrow used on opponent.' The kid did it to him twice. It looked incredible, but it obviously hurt the other kid. How painful is that hold? And why would you use a hold that woudl hurt your opponent on the kid? I'm actually surprised to see some submission holds in real wrestling. Like spladles and -- " He closed his eyes as he was trying to think of the other painful hold. " -- Figure four leg lock. People put it on the kid's head behind them. I don't remember if it's only a pin hold or whether it actually hurts."Sebastian knew a little more than he would normally like to admit to about wrestling, but he felt it was all right in front of a wrestler. Now, he was pretty sure he would turn down any offer of Mason putting him into the bow and arrow so he could learn just how painful that move was on a personal level. Alos, Sebastian suspected that he had a much lower threshold of pain than Mason probably had. Mason Sato

Mason had watched wrestling matches on Youtube for some time. Most of the time it was to watch how different wrestlers were doing during the season and other times it was to watch instructional coaching clips. Some of the moves and work outs he did for his sport, he learnt off Youtube clips. This year...he hoped there would be clips on there of him in matches. A intrigued, yet confused look crossed his face as he cocked his head to one side as Sebastian described the sort of wrestling match he had been watching. Not wearing a singlet? That sounded odd to him, but he said nothing and let him continue his story. In actuality Mason did compete in Freestyle Wrestling- though he had thought about trying Greco-Roman Wrestling. Yes- it would mean he couldn't attack his opponent's legs (which was illegal), something he was good at doing, but he had the feeling he was strong enough in the upper body to throw his opponent...and that was something kind of cool he liked to do. He looked even more puzzled at the description of one wrestler taking the other kid's leg and making him fly through the air. That sounded kind of a weird thing to happen- but maybe that was what happened in high school level wrestling? When the term 'Bow and Arrow' was mentioned, a knowing smile crossed his face and he nodded. He knew the move and had used it himself in a couple of matches to pin his opponent. It was kind of cool that use such an acrobatic move and pull it off flawlessly. "Oh yeah- I know that one..." he said. He hissed when he was asked for an explanation. "Yeah...it is kind of uncomfortable to have it done to you" Mason admitted to Sebastian. "But I guess I have got used to being uncomfortable when I am out there on the mat during a match" he said. Sebastian asked him a very good question and he was owed an honest answer. "Mmm- not so much hurt the other guy. More like to make them uncomfortable. Its like...you make them uncomfortable and they kind of want you to do the move so that it stops. Usually that means you get to pin the guy or rack up points on them to win the match". Mason wasn't sure if that answer would only elicit more questions... At mention of 'submission moves' in 'real wrestling', Mason visibly raised his eyebrows curiously. Where was this going?
Oh yeah...Mason knew what a Splade was... So much so, that he pulled a face and subconsciously crossed his legs as if that would protect him from the image of that being done to him. He had seen Youtube clips of that move, heard older boys who wrestled talk about it...and had secret nightmares about it being done to him. That said, he had did all he could to learn how to avoid getting into that hold and if so...how to get out of it- fast! "Mmm...Figure-Four Leg Lock- that's kind of hard to get on a guy in a match. You kinda go to have long legs to do it", which Mason didn't have (yet?), "But it is a pretty gnarly way to get pinned in a match". Not at Mason would use that move himself- it just wasn't a 'me' move so to speak.

Sebastian couldn't help but laugh a little at the term uncomfortable. "That's one way to put it, I suppose." Sebastian said. "You must have a high threshold of pai -- discomfort -- then?" Sebastian couldn't help but smile at Mason and his use of the term. The horse was getting bored. Sebastian bent over and grabbed some more grass and extended it to the horse in his open hand. The horse took it in its mouth and chewed it. Sebastian wished he was a horse sometimes. Never having to do homework or any work for that matter. Oh ok, he admitted that the horses did work. After all, they tolerated having human beings ride on their back every so often. That was work, technically. But that was easy. Supposedly, getting hit with the riding crop didn't hurt the horses. Getting kicked in its side didn't hurt the horse either. Sorry, Mason, discomfort the horse either. Sebastian smiled. It seemed like a great life. Only cats at home seemed to have it better. They got to sleep on the comfort of their masters; beds all day, even when their masters were away at their work. Sebastian started stroking the horse's neck again. He had run out of things to ask his new friend. Well, for the moment. Mason Sato

There was a vibe of humor going on between Mason and Sebastian- which Mason was not adverse to. As a result, he too smiled the same as Sebastian. "Yeah..." he said slowly, "I guess I do- or I am used to being in that situation". Actually he was more used to turning other guys his size and weight into human pretzels, so he could pinning their shoulders to the mat, which they objected to having it dome to them. It was always a fight to achieve that goal- but that was what it was all about...testing himself against a guy who wanted to do the same to him.
Carefully he watched Sebastian as he first grabbed a clump of grass- especially the way he did it. Last thing he wanted to do was to one day try and feed one of the horses, do it the wrong way and get his fingers bitten off. That would really ruin his week to say the least. The horse seemed to like being feed and didn't feel neglected by Mason who was just watching him eat- and not feeding him like Sebastian had done. The horse seemed to like being stroked. It seemed at ease as it contentedly munched on the grass, standing there and seemingly ignoring Mason's presence on the scene. There were other horses milling around and only one seemed to be interested in what was going on at the fence line. Unlike Sebastian, Mason had not run out of things to say. In fact as he stood there on the fence watching the interaction between Sebastian and the horse he was feeding, a question cropped up in his mind which made him curious. "Sebastian...why did you say we should have a wrestling match sometime?" he enquired. Mason was pretty sure that Sebastian wasn't a wrestler. Not that he was judging him. In his time he had meet guys who wrestled that were all different- tall, short, lean, fat, skinny and muscley. Sebastian had asked him questions about the sport and clearly wasn't familiar with the sport in general. Was he thinking of joining the wrestling team after talking to him? It made him wonder...

Sebastian looked at Mason for a moment. He was shorter than Sebastian was, had dark unkempt hair, and his body was undoubtedly solid muscle. Or so Sebastian surmised. He was average looking. He was happy when he bent down and got some more grass for the horse. he wished he knew their names. Why did Sebastian want to wrestle Mason? Maybe he had a death wish? Maybe he was really a masochist? The question made him look at the other boy again. How would he answer the question? He could quip something like why, wouldn't you want to beat me up? He'd probably become defensive. If that wasn't the way to answer the question, the only other way was telling the truth. Sebastian could be a wise guy at times, making jokes. But he was mostly rather transparent. You instantly knew who you were dealing with when he spoke to you. He was down to earth, honest, and even insulted himself in his jokes as he would've done if he answered Mason's question with a joke. "I like wrestling people, even if it means I get beaten up." Sebastian said. "I'm sure you would probably put me in holds and moves I would never know. If I remember them, if I survived them -- I'm joking -- they might be useful to use on some of my friends I wrestle with back home." His friends back home were really rivals who only wrestled him and usually put him in painful holds like full nelsons, scissor holds, choke holds, and all kinds of holds so that he would give up to his opponent. It fascinated him to learn out of how many hundreds of moves or holds Mason knew, what he would choose to do to him in a match. And what he would do to someone else in a real wrestling match. Why did you hurt the guy and not just pin him? Why did you pin him and not choose to submit him? of course, he never thought of asking himself those questions after one of his matches with his rivals, as he ran through them in his mind afterward. In a way, he wished he was able to read other people's thoughts. Mason Sato

Sebastian was taking a number of what looked like long careful looks at Mason. He had no idea why he was doing that. Was he reconsidering his suggestion or was he sizing Mason up for said planned wrestling match? Mason didn't know. In fact he still hadn't figured out why Sebastian wanted to wrestle him. Not that he objected to the idea on principle. Now and again since he had started in the sport, he and his friends had wrestled for fun. Later as he got better at the sport, he wrestled his teammates for fun- a way of bonding with them. Before he started at Panacea Academy it was as a way to show that he could back his friends in school if they got into a fight and for his friends to show him they would have his in the same situation. "I like wrestling people" Sebastian said at last. Okay...Mason could relate to that- if not all the time. "even if it means I get beaten up". Hmmm...seems like Sebastian was a tougher cookie than he looked. That impressed Mason and made Sebastian even more intriguing to Mason. "Mmm- it happens" Mason assured him. Oh how he had been mauled himself in training and competition in the past- and yet he still kept coming back! "I'm sure you would probably put me in holds and moves I would never know". That would be true and Mason nodded in agreement nonchalantly. He was sure that Sebastian wouldn't know what a Fireman's Carry until he did it on him. Well...you live and learn. "They might be useful to use on some of my friends I wrestle with back home". That intrigued Mason as well. So Sebastian wrestled back home with his friends too. He saw no reason why Sebastian shouldn't get a little better at wrestling by doing it with him- who knows...maybe he would get a little better at it that he may not only get beaten so bad...or get so good that he might scare the hell out of friends and stop them underestimating him. That would be cool to see- people getting shaken out of their complacency. "That would be cool- you getting better at wrestling them and then you go back home and surprize them when you next wrestle them" Mason agreed with an obviously impish- almost devilish smile. Now it was Mason who was looking at Sebastian appraisingly. Sebastian was clearly taller than him. That was due to having longer legs. He knew that guys with longer legs were good at tying up their opponents on the mat with their legs, getting them into gnarly holds and pinning positions that allowed them to use their hips as fulcrums to assert pressure on their opponent to get them on their back or on their sides to score points. Sure- he could see him in his mind Sebastian using his legs, to roll his opponent onto their back...that would be cool to see. It also meant- if he was shown what to do, he could use the strength of his legs to push his opponent backwards, until they were off balance. Then he could really do stuff on them. Sebastian going up against Mason, he was sure the taller kid would learn real fast and in a hurry, to protect his legs. That would be how Mason would take him down- go for the legs, take him off balance and then work up his body to pin him down. Who knew...maybe if they did it regularly, Sebastian would build up his stamina and coordination. Surely that would be of benefit to his theater stuff?

Russell was worried that Mason might not want to wrestle him now because he wanted to learn more moves and holds to use against other opponents. One of his rivals knew ju jitsu and refused to show him a few holds or throws in that. Sebastian figured it was so he wouldn''t use it against his rival, though he was stronger than Sebastian was. He didn't know what Mason thought about it. It was clear to Sebastian that he wouldn't win the match if he ever wrestled Mason. And he was crazy enough to do it. Although Mason was muscular, he was still younger and shorter than Sebastian was. He might still have a chance against him. But that's what he thought of another kid, who though shorter and younger, was still younger. Sebastian just didn't learn. The old cliche said Don't judge a book by it's cover and that's exactly what he was kinda doing here. Even if Mason was an intense wrestler and muscular, somehow Sebastian thought he might still beat him? Really? He definitely wanted to know what Mason would do to him if they did wrestle. What moves would he use on him? And how pain -- uncomfortable would they be? And at the same time, what would he try to do to Mason? "If you do anything this term, you have to try to ride a horse." Sebastian said. "Just one time. I think you'd like it." He said "try" only because he wasn't sure that students who weren't taking Equestrian classes would be able to. He hadn't so far, though he now thought he would have to try. "We could try it together if you like." That wasn't because he thought Mason was afraid of riding a horse, that was only to make sure Sebastian did ride the horse. He would otherwise forget about it or just not do it. This way, he was assured he would go horseback riding again. He couldn't help but smile at the thougth and stroked the horse's neck again. Mason Sato

It was decided now in Mason's mind. "Cool...if you want to meet up sometime to wrestle, let me know. We can see how you go and afterwards, I can teach you some moves if you still want" he offered cheerfully, strangely comfortable with the offer he just made. It was then that a gem of an idea came into his mind. He thought it out as he added, "In fact...since it is still warm out now days, we could go to the beach and do it sometime". He had noticed a beach not too far from here when he first arrived. "Afterwards we could go for a swim if you want". Mason was feeling very pleased with himself- someone had put on their 'clever trousers' today...
Sebastian's suggestion certainly caught Mason off guard. When he came over to see Sebastian and then watch the horses in the field, the last thing he had considered was actually ride one of the magnificent beasts. He had not considered that possibility at all it seemed. He regard the horse that Sebastian was feeding as he consider the offer. Likewise he wasn't sure if non-Equestrian class kids could actually ride the horses. Being at Panacea Academy had been presented to him before he got there as a 'new experience'. Surely horse-riding would count as one? The horses did seem pretty big to Mason and the thought that kept running through his head was that it was a long way to fall if he got bucked off the horse.
