There was a noticeable disappointment that permeated the canoe when the boot was brought out of the murky lake waters. Fishing out trash was not an enjoyable experience... They could only hope the boot was accidentally lost instead of carelessly thrown into the lake with no regard for the wildlife. The large man's golden eyes watched Eduard's disappointment as his own hands returned to the propped fishing rod... Thoughts swirled in Warren's head as the brunette attempted to think of a way to inspire confidence. A bright smile stretched across the large man's face as his gaze returned to his fishing friend.

"Don't worry, Eddie! Maybe less trash will make the fish happier and easier to catch, right?" The brunette happily cheered.

The gentle tug of the line prompted the golden eyes of the large man to glance back at the subtle pulls. It appeared Eddie had noticed the moving bobbin. The bobbin was lightly tugged under a couple of times before it dipped down and was yanked. Automatically, Warren began reeling in the creature or item caught on the hook.

"Return the favour?" Warren asked with a glance as he gradually played the game of slack and reel.

Eventually, what was on the end of the hook was caught and turned out to be a reasonable-sized fish. The creature flopped wildly in the net, bringing a broad smile to Warren's face.

"We got one! Ha, ha!" Warren happily exclaimed.

Large hands, pinched the line, picking up the fish to lower it into the cooler... The work was gradual, hook and fish tangled in the depths of the net... Steadily, lifting and adjusting to free the creature from the net and into a humane death... Until it managed to wiggle off the hook and start flopping. The large man gasped in surprise, hands attempting to catch the flopping, scale-covered creature. The canoe rocked back and forth wildly from the sudden movements, everything growing unsteady until- Warren found himself falling. A loud splash followed as chilled, autumn waters surrounded him.

The large man steadied himself quickly, surfacing with a sputtering cough. His calloused hands reached out to wipe the water away from his eyes, he blinked rapidly as his boots managed to find purchase in the deep mud of the pond's waterbed. He could not tell the extent of the damages. Rather, he found himself chest-high in deep, murky pond water looking around for Eduard... The fish did not matter over his friend after all!

Warren’s excitement was palpable. They were getting a second chance! Eduard didn’t want to waste it, and he jumped back up to help his friend out. With the two of them, it didn’t take much to pull the fish out of the water and pull the net up. Success! There really was more than just trash in this stinking mud-pond!

But just as the two of them were lowering their future dinner into the cooler, the thing made a GODDAMN JUMP FOR IT!! Eduard’s eyes widened as Warren made the effort to catch the fish himself, his actions causing their small boat to rock back and forth wildly. Eduard had to hold on tight to keep from falling out.

Then, almost like the fish could fly, the thing slipped out of Warren’s hands again and was flying through the air towards him. Eduard lunged backward to catch the thing, only for his balance to be lost when his friend was suddenly flopping overboard. With the weight of the boat suddenly completely unevened, the force of the movement sent Eduard too, flipping over the side, arms flailing wildly, with their dinner now having completely earned its freedom.

The murky depths made quick work of the older man, filling his mouth and eyes, and thankfully Eduard could swim well enough, because he quickly found his way back to the surface, thankful that the pond also didn’t seem to be all that deep. He spit out his mouthful of water and coughed loudly, hitting a hand to his chest to get more air in.

The water was luckily still slightly warm, considering it was pretty early in the season, but Eduard knew that wouldn’t last much longer, as he could feel the chill already setting in, and the autumn air that surrounded him gave him the chills.

The graying man had resurfaced back beside the boat, and glanced around him, taking in the scenery. *The very, very blurry scenery.*

“Shit…” He muttered, looking around for his friend, “Hey… Warren, you out there? I can’t seem to find my glasses…”

He could vaguely make out of the figure of his friend, the blob of his massively long mess of hair and massive making him fairly easy to spot, even with the darkness of the water.

“I guess we lost our dinner huh…”
