I'm supposed to be stronger than this. After getting off of her appointment and then the call from her mother that followed, Lilith neglected heading back to her dorm room. The sun was starting to sink below the horizon, shadows forming and dancing over the ground as the sky darkened. The well-behaved part of her that should be setting the example and following the rules would have headed back to her dorm, and due to how empty the area looked most other students probably had retired for the night. She'll never be proud of me, will she? Not ever again. It's just a dream that I'm chasing.[break][break]
Her lip trembled as she thought about all the expectations she had once failed to live up to, feeling a familiar burning behind her eyes. Her teeth dug into her lip as she tried to hold it back, knowing that she was on a dangerous tightrope. Instead she turned and ran a bit deeper into the grounds, looking for a place that was just secluded enough to be private. She didn't want to be seen like this, didn't want people to know that there was something wrong with her. She knew that there was and everyone else had to agree, otherwise nobody would spend this amount of time and effort trying to figure out what. [break][break]
Eventually her place stopped nearby a cluster of trees, ducking beneath the embrace of a weeping willow. She sniffled as she put her back against the trunk and slid down, her knees drawing up to her chest as she buried her face in them. Hugging her knees she allowed the dam to break, hot tears stinging her face as she sobbed. They were quiet and stifled, but it would be difficult for someone to really catch wind of them. Why can't I be like everyone else? No, she just had to be defective. She felt like a glitch in the world, more malfunction than person at times. She really wanted to hope for the future, reach for a better tomorrow...

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]"Aren't you beautiful!" Charlotte praised as she knelt and plucked a daisy by its stem, gathering it into the collection in her hand. As she pulled herself back to her feet, Charlotte glanced ahead and noticed the sun setting beyond the horizon. She frowned, glancing at the arrangement of flowers in her grasp. "I guess this will be enough," she commented to herself.
How long had she been out here among the forestry? About an hour? She hadn't realized the time had passed so quickly as she was gathering up various flowers all ranging from dandelions, daisies and lilies. She wanted to press them into the pages of her diary, crafting a beautiful array around her writing to show how happy she's been here at the academy thus far. She also just wanted to collect some of the flowers she viewed around the academy.
As Charlotte turned to leave and headed back to her dorm, she thought she had heard something. The suspicious noise caused Charlotte to pause and glance around. When she came into the forest there hadn't been anyone around and since being here she still hadn't seen anyone. Paranoia began to set in and Charlotte's breath slowly started to quicken. What if it's a monster... or... or worse?
Curious and cautious Charlotte approached where she assumed she heard the noise only to find someone curled up against a tree, crying. Instantly Charlotte's emotion changed. No longer was she fearing for her life or anxious about a fictional being. Instead, she was completely and utterly concerned for the girl before her appearing like she had so many times in her life.
"H-Hey..." Charlotte greeted softly to the girl, kneeling slowly before the girl. "Are you okay?" She asked, her voice soothing as she spoke.

Is it really impossible for me to ever see mom proud of me again? She sniffled a bit more though she stiffened a little, as the sounds of movements nearby caused a rustling in the grasses. She lifted her face to reveal her mis-matched eyes to see a younger girl, her own lids puffy and the blue hue glassy from being so watery. It was just her luck that someone even younger than she would see her like this, someone she was probably supposed to be a role-model for. Yet in her heart she didn't fault the girl, only her own accursed luck. Lilith opened her mouth to respond, but the first few syllables were an incomprehensible mess of stutters and sobbing. [break][break] Eventually she managed to force her will to strengthen just enough, that she could force herseld to calm enough to breathe properly and speak somewhat normally. I...I don't...k...know.." She tried so hard to never be seen in a state like this, as she wasn't supposed to be so stupidly weak and emotional. If she were normal enough she could have surely been able to keep up with her mother's dreams and expectations, would be worthy of praise and love instead of being left behind. Trying desperately to ground herself some more, she forced herself to take in more of her surroundings and pay more attention to the other girl so that she could block off the waves of sadness that threatened to rise again. [break][break] "Nobody hurt me, or anything if...if you're worried about that. I'm just...really...sad." No, it was not a simple and ordinary case of bullying that had driven her to tears. She took in a deep breath in an attempt to calm herself, the scent of flowers and the deep earth of the forest filtering into her senses. It was the reality of the world that closed in around her, reminding her that nature was always there to retreat to. Her mis-matched gaze found the flowers the other was carrying, fragile stems and beautiful petals. The bark at her back was rough and solid, as strong as she had hoped she could one day become.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]Charlotte's concern deepened as she watched the sorrow-filled girl struggle to speak. She knew that feeling all too well—the feeling of strangulation without there needing to be hands around her throat. It was like suffocating on her own sobs where she would try to stifle and silence them so as not to be heard.
"I...I don't...k...know.."
Charlotte knew the pain in the mismatched eyes that glistened back at her. She knew it, and she wanted the girl to not feel so alone as she had been so many times. "It's okay," Charlotte reassured quietly, providing a brief smile to the stranger. "You don't need to explain." She shifted, resting her back against the tree alongside the girl. She tucked her hands into her lap, laying the flowers still grasped in her hand gently along the soft fabric of her blue dress.
At first, she sat with her in silence, just staring up at the sky, trying to find the right words to say. Had this been her, what would she have wanted to hear? She wouldn't have wanted much small talk; she always found it difficult to speak when she was crying. Instead, Charlotte would've wanted reassurance that everything was okay as someone hugged her, but would this stranger want the same thing as Charlotte?
"You're not alone. A-As long as you'll have me, I'll be right here with you." Charlotte offered to the girl, her eyes returning to hers. "I know what it feels like to cry alone. I never liked that feeling. So I'll be here with you until you're ready, and if you need a hug." Charlotte's eyes smiled a bit brighter at the mention of the word. "I'm a huggable person."

It was too much pressure laid upon her shoulders, the attempt to reach for that unattainable perfection. The expectations were suffocating, stifling any attempts she had to grow and learn what it was that she wanted for herself. She was past the point of trying to bite those sobs back, was just allowing herself to overflow and release it all from her system. She doesn't respond when she was assured she didn't need to explain, just sniffling some more. It wasn't really a situation she was used to, being comforted by someone so gently. Was it strange to not be used to this sort of compassion? [break][break] She was a little surprised that someone willingly laid against the tree with her, as a lot of the other girls would have been worried about messing up their clothing or getting dirty. She supposes in this case that it must make more sense though, as the other girl had clearly been picking flowers. Unbidden though, a wretched feeling curled around Lilith's insides. She shouldn't be worrying the other girl like this, it was horrible of her to take time away when she could be doing something happier or more productive than comforting a train wreck. "W..won't you get t-tired of me?"[break][break] She hadn't meant to say that, but it was too late to bite it back. Even though it was something she felt deeply and quite often about others, she shouldn't go around seeking validation as her mother would have put it. Her face was too hot and it stung ffrom all the crying, her throat and nose feeling ugly and clogged from it. She focused on the other girl's words, a desperation to cling to any voice that wasn't her own. "O..okay. You...you can...hug me." It might be nice, to have a sense of being held against the world like that. It may make all of this stop for just a little while longer, having more connection to hold onto.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]Charlotte sat quietly against the tree, listening to the girl cried her sorrow-filled sobs. She didn't know how to assist the girl other than allow her to let it out. Charlotte thought the best way to comfort someone was to let them release their pent-up emotion. So that's what she did.
She rested her head against the rough tree that stood strong against their backs. Her eyes drifted off towards the sky above — how peaceful it was. There wasn't a single cloud to be seen, granting view to the sky above as the various hues loomed over the empty void. It was so beautiful, Charlotte admired, it was so refreshing and relaxing to see.
"W..won't you get t-tired of me?"
Charlotte's heart squeezed as her attention returned to the crying girl. Her brows pinched in concern as she twisted herself in the girl's direction to better give her attention to her. "N-No! Of course not." She replied instantly, "I know we just met, but I have never tired of anyone." Charlotte reassured in the gentlest voice she could provide.
Charlotte examined the girl, her pale blue eyes searching with hers. She wanted to understand where such a statement had risen from. She wanted to know why she believed she could be shoved aside. Had she suffered the same as Charlotte? Had she been made to feel outcasted?
"O..okay. You...you can...hug me."
Charlotte didn't hesitate. She quickly scooped the girl into her arm, wrapping her fragile limbs around the girl's middle and squeezed her tight. She rested her chin on the girl's shoulder and softly whispered, "I-I promise it'll be okay. Life won't always be like this. I-It will be better." Charlotte wouldn't release the girl until she felt her pull away, she merely squeezed more. Though, given how weak Charlotte is, it wasn't very much of a tight hold.

No matter one's age or the state of wealth their family did or didn't possess, it seemed that misery could strike any anyone regardless of circumstance. Perhaps what she had truly needed the most was something just like this, someone who could understand being left behind or the fear of drowning under the stress of it all. No matter how many clouds loomed on the horizon of their lives though, they were still young and there was a chance that the sunlight could break through. She was surprised at the affirmation and words of the other girl, wondering how someone could care even when you kept failing at every stage. [break][break] "Even if I keep messing up? Even if I'm never strong enough?" These words probably meant little to the other girl, and they weren't really directed at her in a meaningful way. They were things she wished to ask her mother, affirmations she wanted to receive from her in turn. The other girl was not the true cause of her struggles, and yet the sweetness of her reassurances were like salve over an open wound. Was this what it was like to be vulnerable? She can't say that she particularly enjoys it, her eyes stinging from all the crying and her face was hot and uncomfortable. She closes her puffy and swollen eyes as she is hugged, allowing herself to go almost limp in that hug.[break][break] She was given more reassurances, ones that Lilith desperately wanted to believe. It was almost comical in a way, that the smaller girl was the one holding her in comfort like this. It didn't matter to Lilith either way, as it was a grounding rock she rather found herself needing. "Thank you." She wanted to believe, wanted to take that jump. Could she manage to do it? She needed to rise above the weight of the world on her shoulders, working hard enough to prove herself to the family she so desperately wanted acknowledgement from. She just had to stick to her guns and keep working on herself, trusting in the pieces to fall into place naturally.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"] Charlotte closed her eyes feeling the forbidden sting in them that always told her what came next. No! She thought, squeezing them more tightly shut, to prevent the coming tears as she held the girl in her arms. It is not me who is sad! She tried to tell herself, but it was to no avail. It was her unfortunate curse. Whenever Charlotte is around others, her emotions tend to mimic their emotions. It was like her soul could feel the pain around her and weep with them, even though it was not her own pain.
"Even if I keep messing up? Even if I'm never strong enough?" Charlotte couldn't stop it now, for those words were so similar to something she'd asked herself once. Her heart squeezed as her arms did around the girl's middle. "O-Of course not!" She tried to reassure, her voice not as strong as it was once before. "W-We all mistakes. I-I don't like to judge others by w-what they couldn't accomplish." What more can she say to her to make her believe her words? This girl has been hurt so badly she doesn't feel enough... Who hurt her...? Why do people hurt others..? Charlotte wished this world could be kinder.
"I-I'm not perfect either..." She finally whispered, "I-I too, mess up..." Charlotte slumped a little against the girl, still holding her tightly, but the once strong hold faltered slightly. There they knelt in silence for a moment before, --- "Thank you." The girl spoke softly causing Charlotte's heart beat to pound once against her chest in glee. "I'll be here. As long as you need me, I'll be here."
