HAUNTED HOUSE MODDED THREAD● This will be a modded thread. Whenever a character VIEWS or INTERACTS with an item in the room, you can request for staff to step in and reveal the outcome of your characters' actions in the Moderation Request pinned topic. POSTING ORDER● There will be a posting order to keep the eerie adventure flowing smoothly. Each player has up to 6 days to make their move, or the turn will pass to the next soul in line. The order of play is: Verity, Vayne, Mason. Don't let the time slip away... or it might just come back to haunt you! COSTUMES MANDATORY● Share a picture or a detailed description of your character's Halloween costume! But remember, everyone is hiding behind a mask—what secrets are they concealing? CHARACTER ACTIONS● Each character has two ghostly game-moves they can make in their post. They can either VIEW an item or INTERACT with an item. Characters are free to VIEW as many items in the room as they dare, but they can only INTERACT with one item per post. If a character interacts with an item, no one else can claim that same item in the same turn... it’s theirs for better or for worse! CHARACTER ACTIONS MUST STAND OUT● When your character VIEWS or INTERACTS with an item in the room, make sure it stands out from the rest of your post. This way, the staff can easily spot your thrilling encounters with the supernatural! HAUNTED ITEMS● Each room hides two haunted items. One will come with a riddle for the group to solve, while the other lurks, waiting for someone to figure it out on their own. If a character INTERACTS with a haunted item, the whole team gets a strike! Gather three strikes, and the haunting takes control... game over! GOAL● Your main mission is to make it through all three rooms and find the exit before the spirits trap you forever! But there's a deeper mystery lurking in the shadows... uncover the haunted house’s dark secrets along the way if you dare! BADGE PRIZES● Teams that survive all three rooms will earn a special badge! There's also a second badge for those brave enough to uncover all four hidden story pieces. PREMISE & STARTING MOD POST | |
You and your group find yourselves trapped inside Ravenhurst Manor, and it’s up to you to discover how to escape. As you step inside, the doors slam shut behind you, sealing your fate. To make your way out, you must solve the challenges in each room to unlock the next. Complete all three rooms to escape successfully. You can also uncover the mystery behind the haunting by finding all four pieces of the story. But be wary of the haunted items—accumulate too many strikes, and the vengeful spirit will claim your team... permanently. Room 1: The Dusty StudyDescription:The first room is a dimly lit study. The air is thick with dust, making it hard to breathe. Bookshelves filled with crumbling, old books line the walls, standing silently. In the center of the room is a large desk, covered with scattered papers and strange items. Behind the desk, a tall painting of a foggy forest hangs on the wall, and the shadows in it almost seem to move. On the windowsill, a black candle flickers weakly, casting shadows that dance across the room. Beside the candle rests a gleaming gold pocket watch. In one corner, a black hole in the wall seems to swallow the light around it, pulling your gaze toward its darkness. On the desk lie an old quill pen and fragile papers. The door you came through is sealed shut, leaving you trapped in this eerie space. PHARAOH LEAP. [googlefont=Macondo][googlefont=Creepster]

| She was a genius. An unintentional genius, but one nonetheless. Walking into the dimly lit room, the siren was granted access by the little light to see how thick the dust was. Luckily, in her genius, she had chosen to don a mask that covered her whole face, save for a sliver of her forehead. The mask itself looked as if it were two masks built into one. The base Venetian mask was painted in a light blue, with a darker, dustier blue drawing delicate plants, and then a darker blue painted as lips. The second mask was a domino, which extended to the edges of the porcelain mask. The lining of said mask was a shiny, sparkly silver. The inside, made of paper-mâché-like material, had a repeating diamond pattern. The colors alternated between white and the darkest blue her mask had, and lastly, it had thick eyelashes attached to its upper eye holes.
Once she saw the mask, she knew it would go great with her dress, which she had spent quite a bit on. Thankfully, she had little to spend her money on, so she had a lot saved from working at the Stardust Cafe. Verity dressed as Alice, well, not in Alice’s dress. However, most would see the outfit and not have to question who she was. The dress itself had a small corset built into it, though not many would tell. It was covered by cloth that went from her right shoulder to under the left side of her bust. Below the corset were several layers to the garment. The top layer matched the same pattern as the domino mask. It was the shortest layer of the dress. Each layer underneath got longer and longer, and each was trimmed in either white or black lace.
To really sell the Alice in Wonderland aesthetic, her hair had been left to fade back into her champagne blonde. She had even done a bleach bath at the beginning of the month and again closer to the event to ensure there was no pink left. Back to her original color, Verity styled it in a thick braid cascading down her back, which now reached a few inches above her waist. She had also chosen several small blue flowers to weave into her braid, accompanied by some baby’s breath. Adding the flowers had taken longer than she would admit to anyone. They would never know. Luckily, she didn’t have to do her makeup, which saved her some time—another perk of the mask.
She had really gone all out, excited for the event. Even more so when she discovered it was an escape room. Verity had never done one, but now she’d be able to mark it off her bucket list. Even so, she had to hold herself back. Her competitive nature made her want to solve it in record time. She made a mental note not to start bossing the others around. Speaking of them, she didn’t know the duo. And both of them were boys. She suppressed a sigh. Verity wished there had been at least one other girl with them. She really didn’t have any friends yet and would have liked a girlfriend to hang out and giggle with.
Not wanting to dwell on the lack of other girls, she gracefully made her way to the central desk. Running a finger along the edge before bringing it up to her eyes, she wasn’t surprised to find the digit had collected dust. Though, she didn’t immediately start looking at the contents on the desk. Instead, with a practiced wobble, she turned to face the other two, her fingertips coming up to her lips as she tilted her head. “So, introductions?” She glanced back at the desk, narrowing her eyes. They could just skip official introductions. “Or we could just start looking around and get to know each other that way.”

Hours before the escape room event... It was already that time of year. Halloween. It was the year when people dressed as characters they wanted to be and at times could've gone overboard with it. This was especially true for adults, but now a days, Vayne has noticed an uptick in extravagant costumes. He wasn't the greatest at dressing up. Sure, he could slap on a suit and look good for formal functions, but he struggled with picking out a suitable costume. Truth be told, he let his significant others, or his friends pick outfits that they thought he would look good in. This year, being up in Wisteria city away from all his friends he didn't have much help. At least that's what he thought. He stood in front of his dorm's bathroom mirror, staring aimlessly at his reflection. To the side of him, he had a pile of clothes next to him and it looked as though each piece had been worn. He let out an exasperated sigh escape his lips, "Damn it. I'm not good at this at all." Defeat wasn't something he handled well, but there were just some things out of his purview. His phone suddenly started vibrating near the sink. He glanced over and saw that it was his mother calling him. He answered the call, "Yes, mom?" "Why do you never greet me like any other child would their mom?" she inquired. He smirked and ran a hand through his hair, "That's because I'm not like any other child. Thanks to you and dad of course." He answered coyly. She picked up on his sarcasm and he could feel her eyes rolling through the phone, "Always quick with the responses, aren't you? Well, I'm calling to let you know that a package should have been delivered to the school for you."
A silence hung in the air. He didn't know what to say because he wasn't expecting anything from anyone, but judging from his mother's voice, she didn't expect it either. He broke the silence, "Anyone I know or any clue as to what it is?""There was a note left with it, but I didn't send it with the package. I took a picture of the note though. Let me send it to you." A few moments passed, as Vayne waited with bated breath for the photo to go through. When the icon popped up indicated he had a message on his phone, he opened it immediately. His mother gave him a moment to look over the image before she spoke, "I guess, she couldn't bring herself to just get rid of it."
Vayne took in a deep breath before he spoke to his mom, "Thanks for sending it mom. I'll figure out what to do with it after I pick it up. I'll head out to pick it up now." He hung up on his mom, slid the phone into his pocket and made his way out of his dorm and towards the administration building of the campus; assuming that was where the package was waiting for him. While he went on his little quest, his mind kept going over the note: Hey,
I know we haven't spoken or contacted each other since...well everything, but I couldn't bring myself to get rid of this. I picked it out for us to wear this Halloween and...I just thought. You don't like doing this stuff and if you were going to try for a fresh start, I figured I could try and help one last time...
For a moment the image of his ex-girlfriend flashed across his mind. He felt a sudden twinge of pain emanate from his left chest area. The pain only confirmed what he already knew in his subconscious, which was that he too couldn't let go of the past. What she did to him was unforgivable and he knew mentally he needed to push past this, but for the life of him he couldn't. He had spent all his time and effort in avoiding any acknowledgement of her and now it was starting to bubble to the surface. While lost in his thoughts, Vayne had somehow made it to the office and the clerk had brought the package to him and was waiting impatiently for him to take it. A brief apology later and a quick trek back to his dorm room, Vayne placed the package on the counter and started tearing into it. Inside was a white tuxedo, with a blue cape laced with gold trim. The cape had the design of a lion's face in the same gold material as its trim. He tried it on and looked at himself in the mirror. The cape was meant to be draped over his right shoulder and it was accompanied by a white mask sprinkled with gold glitter. He was taking a moment to look at himself with the costume on when he realized what this outfit was. His ex had said something before about how they would dress up the next Halloween as a knight and a princess. Obviously he had forgotten all about it, but it was clear that she had been planning this out for a while. He felt like the gift was bittersweet. It showed that she had clearly cared enough to plan things out so far in advance, but he couldn't understand how she could also have done what she did to him. He wallowed in those thoughts for a second before he reached for his phone, unlocked it, and with his camera snapped a picture. Then, he attached the image to a number he knew from memory and typed out a simple message: "Thanks for the fresh start..."
Present Time: The last thing Vayne expected to be a part of was an escape room. Halloween usually had the normal festivities such as a maze, pumpkin patch, haunted house or even some Halloween food stands, but an escape room was different. The groups were chosen at random, and he was placed with a girl and boy he had never met or spoken to prior to this moment. He couldn't recognize who they were or if they were even in the same year as them, but then again, the costumes were doing their job. His mask was causing a uncomfortable itch on his brow, but he ignored it for now as he scanned the first room they were in. He had never took part of an escape room, but he understood the gist of the game. His team needed to weed out and find the clues hidden in various rooms to ensure they could move on to the next phase. His cursory glance at everything didn't tell him much. There was a pocket watch that seemed out of place on one side of the room. On the other side of the room was a weird black hole-like thing on the wall. He needed to see what the others were planning. The one dressed up as Alice in Wonderland was the first to speak. "Let's just get the names out of the way at least. I don't want to be calling you both 'Hey, you' during this activity." He placed a hand on his chest, "I'm Vayne, a senior and you guys are?" Verity Valendeer Mason Sato

Halloween was NOT just for little kids. In his time he had heard of adults going to parties or celebrating in bars. Whilst they were doing that, the second group (teenagers) would tipi their houses or splatter their expensive BMW/Ferrari eggs. All were legitimately doing Halloween stuff, whilst the little kids were out Trick-or-Treating. Whilst he thought himself too old now for Trick-or-Treating (well, maybe the treat part- tricking was still fun), Mason did like Halloween still. It was a time for fun and enjoying oneself. That was why he chose to get dressed up for it. It took some time to first of think of and then cobble together a Halloween costume. Initially he was thinking of dressing up as Beetlejuice. He had seen both versions of the movie and thought that the character was a excellent choice for Halloween. Then he saw a picture that tickled his fancy and changed his decision as to what to go for that Halloween. Actually, it tickled his slight warped sense of humor. The concept of the 'Psychotic Surgeon' was the idea he decided to go with. Of course he had to add a little fake blood splatter here and there as well as to his fake rubber hatchet and added a toy stethoscope to finish it off. Once he was finished, Mason was pleased with the end result. Mason had heard of 'Escape Rooms' in the past- but had never really been in one. Needless to say he was excited at the idea of being in one. On arrival he followed after two older kids- a boy and a girl, into the room. Out of nowhere the door slammed behind them. Mason's eyes darted about the room from behind his facemask. Was this supposed to happen? He wasn't sure- it was a 'Escape Room' after all. The older girl suggested they introduce themselves- something the older boy agreed with. He had no idea who the girl was (she was kind of pretty though), but he knew the guy by reputation only. Vayne had been described as a bit of a grump guy with a nasty streak a mile long (or so other boys in his dorm had told him). Mason decided he should avoid annoying him and 'make nice' with him. "I'm Mason- I'm a Freshman" he answered in reply. Vayne Aurelius Verity Valendeer

| “Y’all can call me Alice.” The vixen did not lie. Verity did not say that was her name, just that it was what the boys came to refer to her as. After all, with a mask keeping her identity a secret, she thought it would be more fun to proceed in such a way. It caused her heart to ‘thump, thump, thump’ in a way that she heard the sound in her ears. “And I am a sophomore!” she happily chirped in her southern twang, pushing some of her face-framing locks behind her ear. The girl then looked over the duo in more detail.
The shorter boy, albeit he still had a few inches on her, wore blue scrubs, a paper medical mask, and a head covering worn during surgeries, and held a fake hatchet in his grasp. To pull the whole look together—or at least add some kind of horror element—the outfit was splashed with red liquid. Probably meant to be blood. Some kind of serial killer? Was it from a movie or show? She did not think so; it looked far too generic to be from anything.
He said his name was Mason. Of course, he could have been truthful; she wasn’t—well, again, she did not REALLY lie—but if he was, Valendeer did not even recognize his name. From the part of his face that she could see, there was not a tickle of familiarity in her brain. Not too surprising; Verity spent most of her time on the ice, working, or studying. It did not leave her much time to get to know other students—habits she wanted to change.
The taller boy probably had her beat by almost a whole foot. While she had never come across him before, she had heard the name. From what? She could not quite remember. Probably from a whisper of a rumor. The student body sure did like their rumors. Though she did not read too much into them. She’d rather make up her own mind about someone. Just as they could paint a good person in a bad light, the opposite could also be said.
The boy of rumors, Vayne his name was, was dressed up as… well, she did not know. He wore a tux made of white cloth with a blue cape tossed over his right shoulder—her left—and had a white mask upon his face. All articles of clothing were decorated with gold accents. The cape did give off a superhero aesthetic, but was there one who looked like that? Verity would not know; it was not what she was into. Or he could have dressed up nicely and thrown on a mask and was not supposed to be anything in particular.
Verity gave a light hum to them as she turned to face the desk—away from them—and asked over her shoulder, "Y'all got a way you wanna wrangle this?" However, she did not wait for an answer before looking at the papers on the desk. She wanted to sort them into three piles: important papers, papers that could be important, and papers that were just there to be a distraction from the puzzle. “We could always search together, or we can search in different places and call out what we find.”

He gave the two of them a slight nod in understanding after they introduced themselves to him. Mason, a freshman, had done his best to dress as a doctor who probably lost their mind and started hacking away mindlessly with a hatchet. The girl decided to uphold the night of mystery's theme and chose to simply be called Alice. It could've been her name, but he was pretty sure she was simply going along with the costume she was currently donning. With the introductions out of the way and Alice already busy at reorganizing the papers on the desk. He decided to go over to the part of the room where he spotted the pocket watch. His eyes focused onto the tiny metallic object as the candlelight glinted off of its surface. He didn't immediately pick it up. He examined where it was and its peculiar placement in the room. He was trying to get a feel for the room. He felt that if he could understand the mindset of the person who designed this room, he could somehow possibly unlock the key to moving onto phase of the escape. He spoke loud enough for the two of them to hear as he walked away from the table, "I'll go take a look over here since you seem to have things handled here."Was the candle and watch by the window a sign? Was he supposed to stand here and ponder out the window? Was he supposed to be someone looking at the time and wondering where, what or when something would happen? He grinned as he felt himself getting too worked up and possibly thinking about the situation too much. Taking a second to recompose his thoughts he decided to do the simplest thing that came to mind. He reached out and picked up the pocket watch to begin examining the object.Verity Valendeer Mason Sato

The girl calling herself 'Alice' was a sophomore and the older boy- Vayne, was a Senior. Yet again he was at a disadvantage in a social situation with other students- him being a Freshman. Still, he wasn't going to let that phase him- no sir, he was not... The slamming of the door in the room they were in, seemed a little sinister to him. He wasn't sure it wasn't done deliberately...wasn't it? It was a kind of a spooky house they were in and he was with three kids he didn't know. For all he knew one might be a deranged psycho-killer who had been driven batshit by something that happened to them on Halloween years ago. Maybe...one of them was planning to kill them all and make some creepy modern sculpture out of their hack off limbs. Mason, was not without a healthy(?) imagination... Alice asked a question. Looking around the room his eyes fell upon the bookshelves. Now what could be hidden behind there? In a creepy odd house like this, there was often a hidden passageway or a lever that might just open the door to the room. Maybe there was something else hidden in the room behind them. "I'm gonna check out the bookshelves" he announced to neither of the other kids in particular. Trotting over, he poked around- lifting each book in turn to see if they triggered something.Verity Valendeer Vayne Aurelius

THE DUSTY STUDY Viewing the Papers 🔍● A few yellowed papers sit on the desk, their edges curling and fragile from age. Some of the writing is faded and hard to read, while other parts look blank, as if the ink has been lost to time. But one sheet stands out: an old wedding invitation, faded and tattered. You can barely make out the initials at the top—E and V—likely the bride and groom. Interacting with Gold Pocket Watch 🤚● You pick up the unnervingly pristine gold pocket watch and study it closely. As you brush your thumb against its side, the watch feels unnaturally warm, almost as if it’s pulsing with life. Suddenly, the ticking grows louder, echoing in the silence, and the hands of the watch begin to spin rapidly. As the watch ticks faster, you feel the walls shift, moving inward a few inches and intensifying the sense of confinement in the room. A chilling whisper echoes in your ear: “Your time is running out.”A disembodied, creepy female voice echoes in the stillness, whispering, "Strike one." INTERACTING WITH THE BOOKSHELF 🤚● As your fingers trace the spines of the dusty old books, pulling out each one by one, a musty odor fills the air. The books are neatly arranged, with nothing unusual at first glance. But then, as you reach for a book near the center—it won't budge. And neither will the next three. You notice they feel different from the others. Their titles read: The Shadow's Embrace, Bloodstone Chronicles, Secrets of the Manor, and Children of the Woods. Room Size: The walls have shifted inward slightly, tightening the room and adding a claustrophobic atmosphere. Warning:Careful—two more strikes, and it's game over. PHARAOH LEAP. [googlefont=Macondo]

| Many of the papers buried themselves within the confines of the trash pile; nothing stood out to the maiden. That is, until her fingers groped a sheet that seemed thicker than the others—a wedding invitation. Verity brought it closer to her eyes in a squint. Not that it helped any; still, she could not make out much. Only two scripted letters could be deciphered: 'E' and 'V'. The couple? Probably—who else would have their initials in fancy detail on a wedding invitation?
She pulled the paper away from her face, glancing at the boys. “Keep an eye out for anything with a name that starts with either an ‘E’ or a ‘V’!” Just because this paper had both letters didn’t mean other clues would have them in a pair. “A wedding invitation—” She held the paper up as she elaborated, “- if this is a major clue, this room might be based on them.” Verity pulled the letter back toward her, but before she got another look, she jumped partly on top of the desk as a female voice spoke out. And it did not come from her.
“Your time is running out.”
She looked left and right, as if she might see a fourth member of the group. But it was still just the trio within the room's confines. It wasn’t a sight that greeted her; instead, it was the sinking feeling that the room was getting smaller… it must have been her imagination. A room couldn’t get smaller, nor bigger, within the span of a few seconds. Thus, she bit her lip, at a loss for words. The universe must have been laughing at her, as such things did not happen often.
Verity shook her head. “We should be more careful.” She turned her eyes back to the note and noticed something strange—the blank area on the note. Then she remembered the candle. It was a slight chance, but she recalled a little trick about hidden ink. Or did it have something to do with lemon juice? She couldn’t remember; after all, it was an activity for her cousins, not her.
Leaving the desk sitting by its lonesome, she eyed the candle by Vayne before joining his side. She toyed with one of the paper's corners, nervous. If this didn’t work, she was going to look foolish. Still, she only took a brief pause before lifting the paper above the candle. Not close enough for the flames to lick the paper, but just enough for the heat to reach it. If there was a hidden message, perhaps it would reveal itself. If not, at least she was getting a good look at the candle.

The watch was a bit queer. From the moment he picked it up into his hands he felt something off about it. It was warm. It was emitting a warmth that shouldn't be possible because, as far as he could tell, the watch had been sitting in this room for awhile. It should mimic the room temperature or be cold to the touch, but it wasn't. It felt alive. Like someone else had just held this in their own hands. Vayne had barely any more time to expect the object further when it suddenly sprang to life. It started ticking, which would not have been so off-putting, but the ticking gradually got louder. He noticed that the room had gotten a bit smaller in size. He was wondering if the night was just getting to his head, but then a -bone chilling whisper graced his ear, "Your time is running out." Instinctively he looked over his shoulder to see who had just whispered to him, but there wasn't anyone there. He could feel his pulse heighten as he scanned the room to see if the other members of his party were fine. Everyone looked to be fine and not wanting to make anymore mistakes, Vayne made his way back to the table. He figured he could check in on the others and see what was going on with their side of the room. The girl dressed as Alice had been fiddling with the papers on the desk and as he got closer he heard her tell them to keep an eye out for any letters containing names that started with E or V. Not wanting to cause any more problems for the group he scanned the documents near his side of the table with his eyes. He kept his eyes peered for anything related to the letters E or V. It was only moments later that Alice stumbled upon something that peaked her interest. He happened to be near a candle, which Alice needed to see what was on the document. She stepped over to the candle and started to examine it closer. Vayne took a step back to give her room to work with as he waited patiently to see what would happen next. Verity Valendeer Mason Sato

Mason wasn't exactly sure WHAT he was looking for or what he expected to find in the bookshelf. It just seemed a pretty good place to search- and maybe the more obvious one. There was a musty odor emitted in the air as he tried each book in turn. They must have been there for a long time, what with the dust that floated around them. That made his cough and he regretted his decision to disturb the ancient tomes. They looked neatly arranged fir sure, but otherwise he saw nothing especially unusual or interesting about them. So he kept on trying each one by one, looking for what he didn't know. That was until he got to the center of the bookshelf. One, then two and then a third book would move. They seemed stuck. He saw the titles of the book and noted how creepy they sounded. "Hey! I think I may have found something here" he said. Now that subtly was out the window, the Freshman decided to use brute force. Using both hands he began to pull on the books with all his might.Verity Valendeer Vayne Aurelius

THE DUSTY STUDY Interacting with the Candle 🤚● You pick up the half-melted black candle from the windowsill and notice its flame burning a bright, eerie blue. Behind it, the window reveals only an inky black void, as though the glass has been painted over, hiding the outside world. As you look over the candle's flame, you realize it appears unusually strong and bright, refusing to dim. Interacting with the Papers 🤚● You place the wedding invitation over the blue-flamed candle and look for any secret message or clues within. With the help of the flame, you can make out the bride's name: Eliza. Other than that, nothing else is revealed. INTERACTING WITH THE BOOKSHELF 🤚● No matter how hard you try, the books refuse to move. After struggling for a while, it seems the key to this mystery might be somewhere else. | The little 'ghosties' were being very liberal with their information… this was probably going to take a lot more time than she thought it would. Verity sighed. “Eliza, the ‘E’ stands for Eliza.” She shook her head. “If anyone wants to look at it, it will be here.” The siren then proceeded to abandon the invitation on the table. She saw no more information that could be gained from it. Still, if someone else wanted to look at it, she’d leave it here. She’d rather not carry it around with her, nor did she have any pockets to carry it.
With the paper now left by its lonesome, she carefully lifted the candle and looked around the room again. Perhaps the mystic blue flame would reveal something, like a UV flashlight. But where should she start? She could go back to the desk, where she’d only looked through the papers and not the desk itself. For all she knew, there might be a hidden message on the desk. Nor had she examined any of the strange items on it. The bookcase? Verity decided to skip that for now and let Mason finish looking at it. However, he didn’t seem to be having much luck. What about the painting? Like the window, it held a darkness connecting them, but there was also a dark hole... perhaps the candle could light it up.
“The hole or the painting?” the maiden muttered to herself. She wanted to investigate both of them with the candle, but she couldn’t decide which one. She suspected they both required the candle. Nothing around her seemed suitable to catch fire safely to make a second light source to pass off to someone else. So, she had to pick one. She took a few moments to think over her choices before picking the hole. There was no special reason; Verity was just more interested in it. She fluttered over to the hole in the wall, took a few moments to study the inside, and then closed the distance between the light and the hole.
