They woke with a strange, uneasy feeling of impending something, and heightened anxiety. They assumed it was because the dressage team was meeting in a few days, for the first time since Kitt had arrived at school. They were eager and nervous in equal measure; watching horse-riding videos from a hospital bed was very different from actually riding, and while they had about eight months of experience under their belt now, they were certain that the teammates they had yet to meet were better. Their special circumstances would end up making things awkward, too, they feared; essentially banned from actually competing, Kitt worried that they would be left out as a result. It was a lot to worry about, and that wasn't even taking into consideration the concerns they had about making friends in the rest of their classes.
[break][break]The only thing that had kept them grounded as the day loomed closer was taking care of Sunshine. They'd managed to make it twice a day for the last week, in fact, which was probably a little excessive, but the gelding was always happy to see them, so they didn't care too much. Today, Sunshine had been happy to gear up and get out to the riding arena, prancing behind Kitt instead of walking as they made their way out of the stables. The horse lipped at Kitt's bun a couple times, making the teen laugh before they swung up into Sunshine's saddle, and they were off.
[break][break]Riding was a true joy. The wind on their face, the steady movement of the horse beneath them, all of it culminated into a beautiful moment of freedom that they had been reaching for for years. Even with Sunshine only cantering in circles around the empty arena, they experienced a feeling of weightlessness, like flying. They couldn't wait to start going for longer rides, exploring the trails and maybe, eventually going farther. It took their breath away.
[break][break]Or, actually, maybe their breath was gone because they were having trouble breathing. Kitt didn't notice the shuddering beginning until the spots filled their vision, and then they realized their hands were shaking. "Oh, hell." It took effort to grip the reins and pull Sunshine to a stop as the shaking began to spread, but Kitt nearly managed to actually dismount before they fell out of the saddle and hit the ground hard instead. The impact actually seemed to force air back into their lungs, though, and as they rolled onto their side as best they could and started shaking harder, they took as many deep breaths as they could. They should have paid more attention to that uneasy feeling when they woke up; if they had taken their seizure medication, this wouldn't have happened. Kitt berated themself for as long as coherent thought was with them, panting and shaking through it. Eventually, though, their eyes glazed over, and they lost awareness entirely.
[break][break]Sunshine circled around them uncertainly as they seized on the ground, whinnying distressed noises and occasionally bending to nuzzle at them.
