| [attr="class","dibody"]Oakwood Hall was beautifully decorated for the Autumn Masquerade, spooky but not tacky. The atmosphere had an elevated elegance, well-representing Panacea Academy, but Adara paid little mind as she moved through the gathering crowd. The event had just started, and people were starting to get settled, talking amongst themselves in little groups.
There was plenty to do at the party—dancing, socializing, fooling around. But Adara had her heart set on one thing. Everything else can wait.
The event organizers had no idea what they unwittingly unleashed on this school when they added a karaoke room to the event. Unfortunately for them, Adara's foot was first through the door. A sharkish grin was plastered across her face, and she looked around. It didn't seem like anyone had followed her in, yet, so she had the whole place to herself. "Nice, nice, nice..." Adara hummed, nodding as she looked around.
The setup looked like it came straight from the Echo Lounge, with a large projector screen, multiple sound systems, and a few microphones. A box held a collection of pre-programmed songs, and Adara skipped over, adjusting her face mask. They’d loaded the room with Halloween tunes, and she wiggled in excitement as she scrolled through the list.
She settled on a song, and skipped to grab a microphone with glee. Her eyes fluttered closed, waiting for the song to start. "Behind a curtain of towering pines..." Her eyes snapped open, and she reached out with one hand, pulling it dramatically back into her chest. No one was around—might as well go all out, right?
It was just her voice for a few lines before, thankfully, actual music started to play with her. The song started slow, but began to pick up a a few minutes in, hitting a crescendo before going from a kitschy Halloween song into a full-blown rock song.
"They've waited forever to bring us together We finally wake them up tonight!"
Adara leaned into the microphone, gripping it tightly as she belted out the song. Each word was perfectly timed, enunciated like she'd practiced it a hundred times before. The only problem? She was horribly tone-deaf. Her notes were wildly off, rarely hitting their mark, but that didn’t stop her. She threw herself into the performance, hopping around like she was on stage at a rock concert, head-banging to every guitar solo and giving it everything she had.
Adara didn’t even miss a beat when someone walked in toward the end of her song. Instead, she exaggerated her performance even more, finishing with a dramatic shout and a jump. Thank God her wig was secured well. She set the microphone down with a flourish and flashed the newcomer a wide smile, though it was mostly hidden beneath her mask.
“I'll allow you a turn, if you'd like,” she said with a playful tilt of her head.

Sebastian's costume
As soon as Sebastian walked into the room, he felt for his ear and found the mask in his way. He held the lower part of the mask and felt his ear. No, it didn't seem like blood was flowing from it. The nasty singing and shouting was horrible. He was only glad that the girl -- had to be a girl from her voice, he guessed -- was going to stop singing. That meant he would have to show her how to sing a song -- in tune. And beautifully. He wasn't being conceited, he had received many compliments about his singing from musical directors of several different shows he was in. Anyway, he wanted to sing a different song than a showtune. And he really liked old classic rock songs. So he found the one he wanted to sing and officially chose it to display the lyrics and play the music. He really wished he had his guitar, but he decided to keep it safe in his dorm room. There was no owl on his head either. He decided it might've been fun to have one on it and thought he would have to find a plastic owl or something for next Halloween. Meanwhile, his song started playing. He took a microphone with his right hand and pulled the bottom of his mask away so he could sing clearly. And he started to sing the song: "Listen, children, to a story "That was written long ago "'Bout a kingdom on a mountain "And the valley-folk below
"On the mountain was a treasure "Buried deep beneath the stone "And the valley-people swore "They'd have it for their very own
"Go ahead and hate your neighbor "Go ahead and cheat a friend "Do it in the name of heaven "You can justify it in the end "There won't be any trumpets blowing "Come the judgment day "On the bloody morning after
"One tin soldier rides away."Because she was the only one else in the room, he performed directly for her. And he hoped she enjoyed it. He kept singing it, going for every note and feeling every tone in it. And then he came to the last verse and equally sang it for all he was worth. He loved this song and its message of peace. He just wished the world shared that vision. After he was finished, he reluctantly put the mic down and was about to leave before the girl could really make his ears bleed with another song. | [attr="class","dibody"]Adara couldn't help but snort as she watched the new guy enter then check his ear for... something? Probably blood. She couldn't tell if it was a joke or if he was serious, but either way it gave her a good chuckle. The girl was well aware that her singing voice was... lacking to say the least. Still, it didn't stop her from having a good-time!
Her crimson eyes followed him as he made his way to the stage, and she plopped down on one of the couches, legs sprawled out comfortably Adara couldn't figure out what the costume was referencing for the life of her, but it gave her the creeps. She was more than grateful when the boy removed the bottom half so he could sing. It was marginally less creepy that way.
As the boy started to sing Adara smiled wide, clapping to the beat and swaying side to side. " Hey, he's pretty good!" It was definitely a marked departure from her own performance, but she could tell that he gave it his all. Which to Adara was most of the fun! As he finished with a flourish, Adara stood and clapped for him, but he ran off without another word. "Oh, maybe he was shy?" She muttered, tilting her head to the side. She got it, to a degree, though shyness wasn’t exactly in her vocabulary. Her own ability to make a total fool of herself without a care was both a strength and a weakness. Truthfully, she could stand to be a little less shameless.
The girl waited a beat before letting out a shrug, jumping up from the couch. "Well... I guess it's just me still!" She rushed up to the front, putting in another song and once again going to town. Maybe someone else would join her, maybe not—but Adara didn’t mind hogging the spotlight one bit. |
