| The siren ran her fingers over the cloth, which was surprisingly soft to the touch, that sat upon a table. It was the favorite part of the decorations of the night. The cloth itself looked as if it were white, with a web pattern in varying degrees of gray. However, because of the blue-colored light hidden underneath, not only did the whole furniture light up, but it also made it seem as if the white was indeed blue instead. Simply put, Verity thought it was pretty. And well, she was a sucker. Not that she’d let anyone know.
Admiring the Oakwood Hall had been the most enjoyable part of the dance… that was after she made her great escape from another student. He had tried to attach himself to her, attempting to ask her for a dance. However, he did not stand a chance. Not after he looked her straight in the eyes, not that her mask revealed anything else, in an overly fake deep voice, “Are you a garden gnome? Because you’re the perfect height for me!” She did not bother to answer; instead, she turned and had to make multiple attempts to lose him in the crowd until he got tired of chasing her. After all, the night was still young, and there were not many others there yet. He could have very well still seen her or even see her again. Fingers crossed that was not the case.
Now resting beside the snack table, she nibbled on a cookie, only lifting her mask away from her face to have enough room to stick the confectionery in her mouth. It was only when she held the cookie between her teeth to grab a plastic clear cup that she spied someone sneaking over to the table. Not that the person was the sneakiest; it was more that no one currently had their eyes on the table. Students and teachers alike were chatting and enjoying the night. So, no one stopped the student when an Aquafina bottle was produced… she doubted it was water that was pulled into the deep red punch bowl. To which the student grabbed a cup and sped off, leaving Verity to herself once again.
She chewed on her bottom lip with a quick look around. Surely she was not the only one who caught that, but yet she did not notice anyone else who saw the punch being spiked. Or she missed them… which was entirely possible. As long as it was not a teacher or a teacher’s pet who saw the mixing of the two drinks, she might be able to grab a cup for herself. It was out of character for her. Verity was a good student who did not put herself in situations where she could get in trouble… at least not for anything she ever deserved. Miss Valendeer was more often than not blamed for her cousins. The girl did not dare do something that could actually get her in trouble.
But she wanted to do typical teenage stuff, and this would be something she could put on, and then take off, her bucket list. Verity knew if she stood there staring and thinking about it, someone would question it, or she would back out of it. Therefore, with one more quick look around the hall, she quickly ate the rest of her little ghost cookie. Then, with the plastic cup in hand, she reached out for a ladle and dipped the object into the bowl.

*** Thought I'd make an open thread, well because Verity doesn't have anyone to go to the dance with. But I thought it would be easier for people to come into an open thread and then you could find someone to make a private thread with. ***

Fondant is a little too thick. Bonnie's pen slashed across her notepad like a knife, scrawling down shorthand notes as she chewed on the wooden stick her cake pop came on. This... wasn't really how she planned to spend her time here. After all, her time at the masquerade was limited - because of the allegations, of course - and she ought to make the most of it. She wanted to be here, she told her clubmates she would be here. She ordered the dress, she went through the trouble of coming out here... why was it so hard to actually participate?[break][break] She tried! Really, she tried. This was her first dance, it was supposed to be special, but -[break][break] Well, she was here. Hovering around the snacks and obsessively reviewing each one, ducking away into the bathroom every time someone looked like they might be approaching, being alone. Bonnie didn't know why, she just couldn't handle it. When she thought about going out onto the dancefloor and actually dancing with someone, it made her want to puke. Maybe she was just under the weather. Maybe it was a stomach bug.[break][break] A stomach bug that was completely unaffected by her sampling every single confection at the function.[break][break] Yeah.[break][break] Bonnie tore her gaze away from her notepad, tucking it away into her bag. Maybe she just needed something to drink. Besides, if she was going to do a full and honest review of the masquerade's offerings, she'd have to try the punch sooner or later. Better to do it now before someone got the chance to spike it, right?[break][break] The problem was that, well, someone else was at the punch bowl. That kind of ran counter to her goal of not talking to anyone, or being perceived by anyone, or dancing with anyone, or -[break][break] Wait when did she get over here -[break][break] Bonnie hovered over the punch bowl, her feet having carried her here against her anxiety's wishes. It was fine! It was alright. She just had to pour herself a drink and then excuse herself and it would be fine. She looked over at the nearby girl with the corner of her eye, her hands shaking slightly as she pulled her veil aside and brought the cup to her lips.[break][break] "Your dress looks nice." She said matter-of-factly. "It's a good aesthetic." [break][break] Was this how people talked to each other at parties? | With a single scoop in hand, the maiden allowed the ladle to tip over, slowly pouring the spiked drink into the cup, which filled up to about the halfway point. She dared not add another drip to what she had. After all, she did not know what would be too much to drink. Did the student add something strong, or was a single bottle—a water bottle at that—enough to affect a person? How would it affect her? She had no clue.
However, before she could take a sip, she watched as a girl in a long black dress, with what looked to be thigh slits as long as Texas from Canada. Quite bold for a girl who had her head down. It surprised her. Therefore, her eyes lingered on the other girl as she scratched something in a notepad and continued to chew on a wooden stick. The sight encouraged a giggle from her lips. It reminded the blonde-haired girl of one of those cowboys in an old western movie.
Verity pushed the mask up slightly once again to take a sip of the drink but stopped short as she was addressed by the other girl. “Your dress looks nice. It’s a good aesthetic.” So instead of drinking, she offered a smile to the girl. The hand not holding the cup smoothed her garment at her hip. Not that there were any wrinkles that needed to be smoothed; it was just to acknowledge the girl’s words.
“Aww, thanks! That's sweet of you to say!” Her very southern twang hung on every syllable. “Your dress is quite stunning in itself.” The maiden shifted in her stance so she faced the student, giving her her full attention. While doing that, she forgot that her drink was spiked and brought it to her lips. Her eyes widened at the taste, which only hinted that it had been just a fruit punch before. Verity made a quiet, short strangled sound before she swallowed. Some students were going to have fun that night; others would not be too happy about their drinks being spiked.
“You also stag tonight, or is your date around here somewhere?” She did not want to keep her there if someone was waiting for her. Valendeer herself did not have a date that night; no one who had asked her did she want to agree to. It was a shame. Maybe next year. Or at the next event? If not, she would always be happy to go with friends instead.

Perhaps, he was one of the few that had noticed the student spiking the punch bowl. Perhaps, he was also one of the kids who just didn't give two shits on what had been dumped into the punch bowl. As soon as that spiked person left, Cyrus gravitated towards the punch like it had been calling his name from the very get go! Cyrus didn't even bother going for a snack, he just grabbed himself a cup and filled it to the very top - stopped midway and noticed the two girls. Both looked quite nice in their costumes and both snacking away. Seeing as he probably just intruded, he offered them a bright grin. Then, took a big drink from his cup, refilled it, and finally spoke. "Pretty sure there is Vodka in here." He remarked with a chuckle. Man, this was going to make this whole night so much better. Again, he drank from his cup but this time it was just a single sip as he decided to join their conversations as he raised his pant partly into the air. "Semi-Lonely cat here, too. Ah, that is if to say if you two are just chilling as well." Out: MASK | Cat Maid Outfit

Christina had been so busy with work that when the time came for her to start working on her costume, a blue dress with a blue mask. She changed into her Halloween costume to see how it turned out before changing back into her regular clothes so that she could get back to work. As soon as it became evening, she left campus to eat dinner before returning back to her dorm to change into her Halloween costume, should anybody ask, it was her attempt of dressing up as a Queen snake. She had been asked before the event started to be a chaperone and she reluctantly agreed. Students seemed to come in flocks and she watched as they made their way around. Everything seemed fine and well. Soon she had glanced in the direction of the snack table, feeling parched. She hadn't noticed the student walk up to the table to spike the punch, but she had seen Verity, Bonnie, and Cyrus go to the punch bowl for a drink. As she neared, she heard Cyrus make an interesting comment about what he believed the drink tasted like.
She walked past them and headed towards the punch bowl, hopeful that they were lying else this could turn into a nasty situation real quick if not handled with care. With a cup in her hand, she filled it to the top before taking a sip. Well damn. It does taste different. Maybe it has alcohol in it after all. Cyrus did say it tasted like Vodka. It's times like these when I wish another faculty member was around. She thought to herself, debating on her options here. These students didn't want to be known as having this conversation but I could lose my job if I let this slide. She finished her cup and slowly went back to the punch bowl. She tossed her cup into the trash can and lifted the punch bowl. "I'm going to take this now." She answered, believing it'd be in everybody's best interest if they weren't at risk of having anymore alcohol in their system.

| It wasn’t long before the duo grew into a trio. A boy made his way over to them, heading straight for the punch before grabbing a cup of his own. With a pink and white cat mask obscuring her view, Verity couldn’t tell who he was—not that it mattered much to her. She even returned his bright grin with one of her own, giving his outfit a once-over. It wasn’t the most creative choice, leaning a bit toward the erotic, especially with the cat-boy theme. Still, it was nothing scandalous; nothing was hanging out, and the outfit wasn’t a mini dress. It seemed like a lot of people were feeling bold with their costumes this year, but Verity had no desire to do the same. She wore cute, short outfits every day as it was.
"Semi-lonely cat here, too. Ah, that is to say, if you two are just chilling as well."
The girl snorted into her drink as she took another sip, which went down a bit easier this time around. “Lonely? I prefer stag…” She glanced around the dance floor, then leaned toward him in a mock whisper. “There’s this guy around here—he’ll cling to you and use the worst pick-up lines.” She pulled back with a shrug. “Not that I’d recommend finding him.” It didn’t take long to spot him, attempting to hit on another girl—only for, Verity guessed, her boyfriend to step in with a threatening glare. “Unless you really want to,” she added with a smirk, watching as the girl’s boyfriend became more aggressive. Verity didn’t feel bad for the clingy student.
She took another sip of her drink just as a teacher approached, grabbing a cup. Uh-oh… Verity waited until the teacher walked away, then exchanged glances with her companions, trying to place where she’d seen the woman before. After a moment, it clicked—she was the female housemaster. Not that Verity knew much about her. She watched as the housemaster took a generous sip of her drink, quickly downed it, and then made her way back to the punch bowl, declaring, "I'm going to take this now."
Oh, hell no. Verity hadn’t planned on more than a single drink, but she wasn’t about to let this teacher take the punch from them. This was a normal thing for teenagers to do. Back home, parents would sometimes buy beer for parties out in the pastures. If they were going to drink, it was safer to do so on campus than out in the city. With that in mind, Verity put on her most innocent face, her hand rising to her lips in an gasp.
“You’re going to take the punch away? Why?” She tilted her head, casting confused glances at the other students around her. “The academy was nice enough to provide us with drinks.” She frowned thoughtfully. “I just saw you drink a very full cup,” Verity continued, leaning closer to the older woman. “So there can’t be anything wrong with it.” Was she going to admit to drinking while she was supposed to be keeping an eyes on students? “Should I go and get another teacher?” Any pressure she can put on her was probably good.
