It was 5:00pm, track just let out, and Adara knew Penelope was due to be out of adventure club soon. Hurriedly, the girl changed, sprinting off to find her friend. She set her sights on the dormitory, bursting through the doors and side-stepping a group of girls already on their way out. They shoot her a glare, but she breezed past them, excitement on her face.
Finally, tonight was the night. School stuff behind her, a successful track practice done with, and now it's time for just her and her friend to go out and act a fool. Well. Probably. Adara had already decided they were going to go to karaoke tonight together, and she just needed to let her know.
"PEEEEEENNNNNNNNYYYYYYY!" Her voice echoed down the hall as Adara darted through the building, weaving around people until she spotted her target. Penny’s height and her bright white hair made her pretty easy to track. With a wide smile, Adara came up from behind and slipped her arm through Penny’s with ease, falling in step with her. "Pen... we have to go to karaoke tonight. They’re running a special—buy two hours, get the second half off!" Adara takes a deep breath, a small laugh coming out of her mouth. "Plus.... dude I swear I can nail it this time. I’m going to do it, and it’s going to be awesome, OK?"
She stops, and grabs both of Penny's hands in hers, her crimson eyes wide and sparkling. " Pleeeeeeeaaaaassseeeee? Just give me like, 20 minutes to get ready and we can go? Food will be on me!" |

We're gonna fly away [attr="class","prism-onebody"]  The time for leisure was fast approaching, and she couldn't be more excited. There was nothing she loved more than time spent with her friends, as it inevitably ensured a time filled with energy and boundless entertainment. She assumed that must be the sentiment formany of these students, as there were so many of them moving around in little groups of their own at the moment. When she heard her name being called out with such enthusiasm, her smile grew bigger and brighter. Her friend's presence was happily welcomed, letting out a cheer of her own as theair arms were looped together. "You found me~" She giggled a bit, though she wasn't really surprised at all. It was always one or the other finding each other first, though Penny was admittedly a lot easier to spot. Her exaggerated sense of fairytale fashion, and the height inherited from her father made that an undeniable fact. Someof the other students seemed annoyed bythe boisterious nature of the pair, but Penny thinks they probably just didn't know how to have fun. She listened as Adara immediately began to talk with purpose, her friend's eyes practically glittering with excitement. "Awe, you know I won't turn down karaoke."Her smile was genuine, and there was also an excitement reflected in Penny's own eyes. It gave her the chance to practice more herself, especially after the fiasco where she had stumbled over a particularly fast verse. Would she ever get the hang of that song? "Alright. Make sure to double-check this time! Remember that one time I left my phone back on accident?" Or the time she had left her hairpin at the place they ended upgoing, a disaster that had been so narrowly avoided. It would have taken her so long to make a new one to replace it, in the chance that it would have been discarded or taken by someone else instead of held onto as a lost item. Adara bounced, grinning ear to ear, "perfect!" The girl could always count on Penny for a good time, she was pretty much down for anything. Which meant Adara could drag her around as much as she wanted (or sometimes, the reverse; Penny was a kindred spirit after all). It was always nice to have someone around who was just as excitable as her.
" Alright, alright, I promise," Adara let out a little guffaw, a sound less cute and more... jarring. A small part of her winced at the sound, but there was nothing to be done about it. She remembered the absolute PANIC when Penny left her hairpin behind, and she made a mental note to keep track of both of their things throughout the night. Just to be safe. Though she had a tendency to be just as forgetful, maybe tonight would be different- "hopefully."The pair moved through the hallways and stopped at her dorm room door. "I'll meet you at your room then! I just have to get ready quick." She was still in her school clothes, and desperately needed a quick clean-up before heading out. Thankfully, Penny was just down the hall.
Adara gave a quick knock at the door before slipping in. It seemed like Chise Sumeragi , her roommate, hadn't gotten home quite yet. It was quite sad. Hopefully she could make it next time!
Quickly, Adara gathered her clothes and ran down the hall to get a shower. She went fast, managing to get ready in just under 20 minutes. Her outfit was best described as "cute but comfy," and while she briefly considered putting her hair down, she decided against it. Instead, she tied her ponytail up quickly, threw on some jewelry, and danced out the door.
Humming as she fast-walked to Penelope's door, Adara skidded to a stop just before she knocked. "Alright, Pen, let's go paint the town red!" |

We're gonna fly away [attr="class","prism-onebody"] Adara's excitement was contagious, Penny found herself also starting to bounce with energy. It was easy to get hyped up with her for even the most mundane things, the two's energy often raditating and bouncing between them like sparks. Penny's steps were energetic and excited as they walked to Adara's dorm room, nodding as she spoke. "I'll make sure I'm all set to go too!" She walked over to her own dorm room after Adara's door closed, packing all the essentials into her little 'out on the town' bag. She made sure to send her dad a text too, always keeping the habit of letting him know when she was out and about. [break][break] She freshened up and changed into her cuter and more casual pink outfit,, deciding for tonight to leave the more elaborate clothing and accessories at home. She did apply a little mascara to make her lashes look nicer though, adding a touch of eyeshadow as well. Just as she managed the finishing touches, there was a predicted knock at the door. Her expression warmed from focused to that familiar smile, grabbing her bag and opening the door to reveal her friend. Stepping out and closing the door behind her, she was ready to go out and absolutely go ham with their favored songs. [break][break] "We'll definitely score even better this time~" She was enthused, prepared to crush all those catchy little songs. Every time they went they got better and better, though whenever they picked a new song sometimes that streak faltered a little bit. But hey they were young and still learning, so there was nothing but time to become masters of the song world! Penny would head towards their location for the night, keeping pace with the red-head easily. She would chatter about random topics too while they were walking, mainly about her recent crafts she had really dug into or a new k-pop band she discovered. A wide grin spread across Adara's face at the mention of crushing it, and she nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, absolutely..." They were definitely about to bring the house down.... one way or another.Adara happily chatted with Penny as they moved from the dormitories out into town. She enjoyed talking about Penny's crafting projects and K-pop. The girl made a mental note to try to learn some of the dances to back her up in the karaoke room. God knows nobody wanted her to harmonize, but she was a great emotional support.
The pair strolled through the streets as they'd done countless times before. There were many people out and about, the lights of the city dazzling as they made their way through. Adara loved going into town, the buzz of people, all the bustle and energy, it made her incredibly happy. Especially when heading towards her favorite place!
Finally, tucked in-between a few shops, they stepped up to the entrance of the Echo Lounge. The sign was bright neon green, flickering every once in a while, with one of the double doors propped open. A bright yellow sign plastered on one of the doors read "BUY TWO HOURS, GET THE SECOND HALF OFF" with a picture of a little microphone. Underneath the sign there was a smaller flyer detailing their meal deals for the day, and their drink specials for those who were of age.
As they stepped in, they could quietly hear music ambiently around, and Adara hopped up to the counter. The two desk attendants both visibly looked at each other as they pair came in, both of them focusing on Adara. The girl could see the brief look of despair pass over their faces, but she smiled anyways. "Two hours in a room for us, and a menu for food when we're ready." Finally, one of them smiled, their customer service mode kicking in.
"Sounds good, do you have your rewards card on you?" Adara nodded, placing that and her debit card on the counter. They held it for the tab, and then sent her and Penny alllllllllll the way in the back, as far as they could get. Adara flashed another wide grin as the attendant called out behind them. "You guys enjoy!"

We're gonna fly away [attr="class","prism-onebody"] Conversation was easy, the topics were endless and came so easily. There was the chatter of others around the pair as they waalked the familiar path, various signboards advertising products and many doors swinging open as people came and left various establishments. Sometimes she really does like the aesthetics of a nice secluded place in nature and can appreciate the break it may offer many, but she likes to think she loves the social and the city far too much to ever settle down in a place like that too easily. "Yeah... I think our reputation proceeds us." Adara lets out a sharp laugh, rolling her eyes playfully, "it's okay though. Let's make one hell of an impact, hm?" She whispered back with a wink. The girl rushed to the back, bouncing with each step. The walls were lined with thick sound-proofing felt, similar to what you would see in a movie theater, and a few of the rooms the pair passed by had muffled music and laughter coming from them.
Adara stopped at their assigned box, turning to Penny with a grin. "At least being in the back means we can really go wild." She added with a mischievous grin. Adara threw the door open, and stepped inside. The room had a nice L shaped couch to the right hand side, with a long, thin table set out in front of it. Set on the table was a large hand-held device, with a thick case, for picking out songs, as well as a set of tambourines. There was also a touch-screen built into the wall for their food and drink orders. On the left hand side of the room, sat a large TV; complete with big speakers, and of course a pair of microphones.
Adara plopped down onto the couch, set her bag down haphazardly and eagerly grabbed the device to control the songs. She hummed lightly as she scrolled through it, and she felt her heart starting to race with excitement. Adara shot a look up at Penny, a big grin plastered all over her face. "Bubble Gum first for you, right Pen?" The girl asked, although she knew the answer already. "I'm excited to see what else you do! We're going to get our money's worth for sure!" The girl flexed one of her arms, before a flash of an idea passed over her face. She bounced a little in her seat, and with a gasp she spoke. "Oh! We should TOTALLY do a duet sometime tonight too! Oh my god.... I'll try not to butcher it hehe."
She passed the device over to Penny, with "Bubble Gum" and a few others pre-loaded in. "Since it's my treat, I'll be so generous, so kind, and let you go first." Adara makes a little heart with her hands, and then lets out a strong guffaw. |

"Let's go all out today! Not our fault they don't know how to have fun."She giggles a bit at the end of that statement, not caring if the truth might have sounded a bit rude. At least they were getting some traffic and therefore getting paid, a day with nobody coming in sounded horribly boring to her! Sitting on the couch she retrieved her phone from her bag, and sent her dad the 'arrived safe' text as an update. She knows he didn't require those kinds of messages, but the girl has always been thoughtful. [break][break] Her face lit up in excitement as Adara spoke, giving an enthusiastic nod. "Yep, still my favorite~" Though she discovered endless new songs and bands, it refused to be displaced from her number one spot. The beat was upbeat and happy, and it always served to pick her up should she not be in a great mood. "Oooh, you have a song in mind for a duet?" It wasn't often she got to try her hand at harmonizing with another person, but she supposed that it couldn't hurt. She accepted the device as Adara passed it over, a look of determination passing over her face. It was time to start another night of fun! Penny glances back at Adara and gives her a tilt of the head and a small wink, as if she were one of the heroines in those idol animes acknowledging a fan. With the music winding up and the beat pulsing as the song started though, she almost felt as if she could have been some sort of idol. Her voice flowed with the rhythm of the song, the once unfamiliar language of the song that used to make her stumble over the worlds almost like a second skin by now. [attr="class","dibody"]A surge of pride flooded through Adara as Penny confirmed that it was still her favorite song. She winked playfully. "See, I DO listen." The girl was quite fond of Penny's first song pick- it was bubbly and energetic, just like Penny! When it came to choosing a duet, Adara put a finger on her chin, thinking deeply before speaking. "Hmmmm..... we could do like. Oh my god..." she said with a sheepish giggle, "we could do 'I've Had the Time of My Life', or oh! Suki Kirai would be fun! Or we can even do Ain't No Mountain High Enough..." She beamed, her excitement evident. "Anything that we can rock together, hehe."
Adara didn't really seem like the girl who would be into k-pop or j-pop, but when Penny first introduced her to it, it was like a gateway drug. Now she couldn't get enough of it.
The TV flickered on, and the speakers started to beat out sound as Penny sent a wink to Adara. In response, Adara grabbed the tambourine off the table and let out a cheer, acting like a crazed fan at a concert. "Get it, Pen! Wooooo!" As the song started, Adara kept time with the tambourine, moving side to side in time with the beat. It took a lot for her to not start dancing on the couches, but she was able to restrain herself... for now. "We'll save that for later... probably." She thought to herself with a grin.
The lyrics flowed from Penelope smoothly, and it really did seem like she was some sort of idol. Singing her heart out on stage. It was very cute, and she did a great job. As the song finished Adara gave a big standing ovation, cheering like she was at a track meet.
"Heh, Penny you're so talented!" Adara meant it- to both be able to stay on rythm and in tune? A miracle. "But now.... it's time for some big TALENT." The comment was very obviously sarcastic, Adara was incredibly self-aware of her singing ability. But her hand reached for the microphone regardless. |

We're gonna fly away [attr="class","prism-onebody"] Penny neglected to answer the suggestions at first, wanting to get her warm-up song underway and see how she felt during that before she would really commit. Her mood once she started settling into the groove would probably set her vibe, and after that she'd pick whatever stood out most to her at the time. Sure she didn't often regularly change up the roster of songs, but there was a first for everything. She swayed from side to side with the beat, allowing her vocals to flow through the air with a matched tempo. She gave it more vigour as Adara cheered her on, her energy trying to match to that of the exaggerated fanfare. [break][break] The song was over even though it felt like it just started, her bright eyes glimmering as her attention shifted back to Adara. As Adara stood and cheered though she blushed a little bit, smiling and giving an almost shy wave. No matter how well she really did in her various songs, she always felt embarassed after the fact but those periods of time were becoming shorter and shorter. "I believe in you!" She made her way back to couch to sit as Adara grabbed the mic, curious to see what her opening song was going to be. She never knew what to expect, though she could always make a few guesses based on her tastes. Adara grabbed the microphone with enthusiasm, and threw up a wink and a peace sign at Penny's encouragement. "Always!"
She had decided to ease into it a little bit, starting with a slower song so she can save energy for the real bangers later. The girl closed her crimson eyes, taking a deep breath, before opening them as the music started. She stepped side to side in time with the beat, her head swaying side to side, imagining herself on a wide, empty stage. She'd never have the vocal chops to be an idol, but she felt decent enough about her dancing ability, so she tended to lean into that a little more. Thank god all that track she did made her so coordinated.
The girl started to sing, and managed not to stumble. She was definitely off-key, taking the melody as a suggestion rather than a rule. Any semi-high note caused her voice to crack, and she jumped octaves unpredictably, but she didn’t let that deter her. In fact, she sang with all her heart, her volume rising to match her joy. And boy, a few times, she really pushed the speakers to their limits, especially during the chorus. She poured her whole heart into it, and each "Lady!" of the chorus she'd point to Penny with a wild smile, bringing her hand back towards her chest and moving back into her small semi-choreographed dance. She replicated some of the movements from the music video, like she'd practiced it many times before. As the music faded away, Adara finished with a slow, dramatic bow. Her head popped back up quickly, and she had a wide grin plastered on her face. "I think we should go professional, honestly." She said cheekily, an ugly laugh escaping her lips. "I'd be so gracious as to let you have lead vocals. I think I'd just stick to dancing." The girl let out a hum, seriously thinking about it for a moment. "It'd actually be fun to wear matching outfits..." She set the microphone back, peering over Penny to see what she was writing down. It was pretty dark so she found it hard to see exactly what she was writing. "Oooooh... what's that?" |

She would clap her hands together loudly to encourage her friend, no matter what sort of havoc was about to happen. It didn't matter that Adara was clumsy in the verbal sense, or that her voice was off-key and unrefined. She clearly made up for her lack in singing ability, with the absolute energy she poured into those moves. It was obvious to her at least, that she had put a lot of practice into it, and was using every ounce of enthusiasm she had. "Amazing!" When Adara pointed at her during the relevant parts of the song, Penny spurred her on with fake swooning like you'd find in superfans of any musical artist. [break][break] She decided that she'd add Sugarcoat and Suzume onto their list for the night, just to throw some new flavours in. Though Suzume wasn't entirely new really, but she rarely picked it as a go-to bop for these kinda nights. The music started to wane and it wasn't long before Adara bowed to her, Penny's hands moving to give a series of claps. Almost mimicking a pleased crowd desiring an encore, though she also doubted one person could constitute a true audience. Her blue eyes sparkled as she listened, and she gave a enthusiastic nod. "I could probably even help make the outfits. We could design them together."[break][break] She has made clothing from scratch and editted and modified purchased or inherited clothing, and knew how to thrift decent things and where to seek quality but inexpensive materials. She had a huge basket overflowing with threads and yarn back in her dorm, and a slide-out bin under her bed with different cloths as well as things like pins and buttons and other decorative items. When Adara's attentions focused to the paper she was toiling over, she flashed her a bright smile. [attr="class","dibody"] Adara beamed at the applause, thinking for a second on her friends words. "Wait... Penny no for real we should do that... I'm positive we could come up with something killer. Long as it's not too frilly for me." The girl let out a small, sheepish laugh. She felt deeply uncomfortable in frilly, girly clothes, though she appreciated the aesthetic on others. It was something her mother used to force her to wear when she was younger, and like most things her parents forced her into, she acquired a distaste for it.
"Although I'm garbage at sowing, I can still try to help! Just uh... maybe something easy." Adara's crafting ability was about as close to zero as it could be, especially compared to Penny. Her friend always made the coolest things! Adara admired her ability a lot, and knew just how much work and care Penny put into her craft. It was pretty neat.
When Penny explained what she was working on, Adara bounced, putting her hands together. "Oooh! Sick. Could you put Culture on there? Oh! And Gutter Girl!" Both Adara karaoke classics, but she also wanted to maybe throw in something new too. "And HYURURIRAPAPPA! I'm obsessed with it right now... it speaks to me." It was rare to find a song that perfectly encapsulated who she was, but ‘HYURURIRAPAPPA’ was one of them. Just dance and go crazy! That sometimes felt like her motto. Adara always strived to live life to the fullest—well, as best she could.

"Don't worry, no frills for you. I'm sure we can come up with a vibrant and striking design." If Adara wanted to rock a "cool" look, Penny wouldn't mind being the "cute" aesthetic of their dynamic duo. She could probably do something very obviously cutesy when with a flowery theme, after all it was one of her absolutely favored themes. "I'm sure you'll do fine. Maybe I can even show you more pointers? That is, if you'd like to get more experience under you belt."[break][break] She nodded a little as Adara seemed to also grow hype over a set list, happy that it wasn't seen as silly. She wrote in the songs that Adara mentioned into this set list, of course with her ovelry loopy handwriting. She snuck in an anime song or two, as well as some more from her current favorite k-pop band. It seemed mostly upbeat when it was all finished, with some chaos thrown into the mix for some variety. She kinda doodled on the sides of the set list, little hearts and stars and designs typically associated with idols. She lifted it up and offered it to Adara for inspection, wondering what she would think of it. [break][break] "What do 'ya think? Or should some be changed around?" The list had about eight songs, which could possibly be considered a bit short. Most CDs had around twelve or eleven tracks, unless they were one of those short single ones or something promotional. It was probably okay enough, considering it was more for fun than anything serious. That was the point while you were still young, wasn't it? "Aaaaaah, that'd be sick!" Vibrant and striking sounded just like Adara's kind of thing. Just thinking about it had her buzzing with energy. "I'd take some pointers! I feel like it's something I should know how to do like... at least a little bit, y'know?"
She enjoyed learning new things, for the most part at least. She had a tendency to get frustrated if she wasn't able to get a hang of something right away. It’s not like she couldn’t do it, but boy, it got under her skin when she hit a wall early. At least with Penny’s patience, it wouldn’t feel so bad.
"Wow... I could choregraph or something too... we really should be idols." She said, mostly jokingly. Although.... Adara wasn't a pro dancer by any means, but she knew enough to at least be able to figure something out.
Adara grinned wide as she looked over the set-list, a happy giggle escaping her mouth. "Your handwriting is so cute, I really like the doodles! It looks like an idol's diary or something." She leaned forward, studying each song choice carefully, nodding and humming approvingly. A sharkish grin spread across Adara's face, followed by a playful wink. "The song choice is perfect, juust the right amount of chaos."
"It's like our debut EP!" Not too long, not too short, just enough. Although it was all for fun, of course. Adara enjoyed getting hyped up about it anyways. |
